Decided to set up a thread chronicling my terrain building exploits. I'm currently working on some terrain that is generic enough to be used in a bunch of different games, which will then be supplemented with some other specific terrain - stuff that is aimed at a particular games system or genre.![]() I finished up the rock piles and junk piles a while back. Really happy with the way these have turned out! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lots more planned, I bought some materials to build some Necromunda/Fallout 3-style terrain, gantries, walkways, lookout towers etc., they'll be getting started in a little while! ![]() ![]() ![]() Working on these at the moment, they'll be dead trees (as seem to be prevalent in Fallout3, to which I am addicted :)). These are what I think of as the generic terrain - you're as likely to find dead trees on an Imperial planet as you are in the fantasy Chaos Wastes or Naggaroth or some desolated countryside in a Weird World War II setting or in a Post-Apocalypse themed game. Comments most welcome

I've been working on a few different things:![]() I bought this lot at a car boot sale (Escher for scale). In Fallout 3 there are little campsites kicking around, usually a few trailers and some picnic benches. So I decided that they'd go great as something along those lines, a long deserted campsite in a nuclear wasteland... ![]() Like this. Poor pic though ![]() This is the first one I've done - they've had their wheels (and various undercarriage parts) chopped down, windows broken, bullet holes, detail stickers removed, mounted on some MDF type stuff and some random extra pieces added... ![]() Including barbecues... (spatula made from plasticard and guitar string) ![]() ...and deckchairs. I've also added a dead body to the first built one (where the ork is standing in the pic). |

Superb!!! I can see this thread taking up where Ross's thread left off! Do you have an exact scales / length of the campers mate?

The caravan is just over 4inch, whilst the camper vans were just under 5 ![]() Also been posting these over at the forum Ross and Freebooter run, which is about Post-Apoc Wargames, been getting a lot of ideas over there! |

You've actually given me a superb idea for an alternative vulture creek! Trailer Trash Wars! Now to find scale trailer park mobile homes.... Cheers |

That'd be rather awesome Mine were 20p each at the car boot sale, going to have to get back there again!Next up: ![]() Been working on some walls like those to the left in the picture (from Fallout 3). They're some kind of concrete, they look like they were the surface of a road or something, pulled up in slabs and sunk into the ground. ![]() Took some polystyrene, sliced it thinner, took some off-cuts of MDF, bevelled the edges, cut the polystyrene up into segments and glued them to the bases with a hot glue gun. ![]() I chopped up a bunch of these larger paperclips (shown next to an average one for scale) that my dad scavenged from somewhere (runs in the family) to make the spars that are sticking out of the concrete. ![]() Ta-daaaa - wall almost complete. "Patching Plaster" adds detail to the wall, the metal bits are added at the same time as the plaster. ![]() Repeat ![]() ![]() Just to show the scale. I will be combining these with some more ramshackle walls of tin sheeting and maybe some guard towers to make a compound for either some raiders or some scavengers. I also made some of these: ![]() ![]() Again, off-cuts of MDF, but this time combined with scouring pads for cleaning dishes. They're hedgerows, and will be painted to look diseased/dying/dead, for Mordheim or perhaps some more urban games on the Wasteland terrain - to go in a ruined park or something I suppose. This is so great! I´m a big fan of the fallout games and the idea of playing warhammer on that enviroment is realy good. You realy have to build a vault entrance and a part of those big collapsed highways you see everywhere in fallout3. |

Great stuff, very haunting just like the capital wasteland itself, also takes me back to other dystopian stuff like Half Life 2 and the COD4 missions in Pripyat. Keep it coming, I'm almost willing to try my hand at it!

this looks a lot like the scene in T2 when Sarah Connors is looking across the park just before the bombs go off... Very imaginative. Very impressive! |

Poom - Thanks My idea is that it is a relatively deserted world, with small Imperial colonies dotted around, raiders, muties, an invasion of Chaos Marines (Enclave?). Plenty of scope to play anything from 40k, to Necromunda, to Inquisitor, then I can use parts of it for Mordheim, Fantasy, or eventually, build up some more Fallout-themed gangs and forces. For example, I have a bunch of ghouls from one of the tables we ran at the last Games Day UK - I've just started to rebase them from the tarmac/snow bases they had:![]() To match my wasteland stuff - they'll be NPC enemies in some scenarios (that I have in my head). Should be interesting! I hope. Hah. Burnie - Cheers mate - you should defo have a go at it! Cakes - Thanks - your camper van looks ace Great minds and all that jazz!bishbosh247 - Thanks, I should have done the chainlink fencing shouldn't I? ![]() ![]() Took these, some spare wheels from a 1:48 scale Sherman Tank kit - apparently the tank went through several generations, they have various wheel types to represent other variants... ![]() Used a hole punch to make some circles in plasticard to finish them off as mines. ![]() ![]() Added liberally to the playground, like the one in Minefield (FO3). Although I reckon most of you guys will know that ![]() ![]() ![]() Added various interesting bits to the bases of the last two caravan/camper vans, plus rocks, sand and kitty litter. ![]() ![]() I especially like the dead bodies scattered around ![]() ![]() ![]() Another pic of the other camper van - to show the other dead guy and the dead tree. ![]() ![]() ![]() I watered down some PVA and used it to seal the plaster on the walls, then left that to dry overnight, before basing them with kitty litter/gravel/sand tonight. ![]() The campsite/trailer park so far. ![]() Everything I've built terrain-wise recently. Really happy with how this lot is turning out! I'm off to another car boot sale in the morning to source some more terrain-building supplies ![]() Comments most welcome! |
