Just got the new WD and they have a great song and dance about many things, but one thing that i particularly noticed was the brushes. Prices have gone up, but has the quality? Does anyone know anything on the subject?

cheers for reminding me Dave :)
my WD could have sat unnoticed on the piano for weeks. i'll have a look. whether i get new brushes depends on their price compared to the windor and newton (or whatever you lot use).

They are easy enough to make with a tough brush and a pair of scissors. I don't care what quality the GW ones are, I'll stick with the ones I use.

my thoughts indeed. I used to use GW brushes because they were cheaper than W&N watercolour, which is what i normally use. however i do believe the W&N ones are cheaper now.

saying that, i know a lot more about GW brushes, and i dont really know what i should be paying for windsor and newton (7 series is it?)

I have series 7 brushes for finer work, but use lower range W&N brushes for large blending, washes, basecoats and so on.

The lower range go from about 4-5 quid each, the Series 7 are expensive (8-12 quid) but last and are so much better. The first thing most high end painters will say is throw away the GW brushes and invest in something better.

Buy rosemary and co brushes... they are like w&n just with much (much) better quality control and are muchos muchos less expensive...

yeh, i have W&N watercolour kolinksy sable brushes for fine work, and gw for everything else.

Been eyeing up some Series 7s though when i have money, i like the idea of keeping the tip but holding more paint :)

Rosemary & co. are OK I find, but no W&N. It's all horses for courses.

I don't know much about brushes, but after reading a bit about em on Warseer, I got myself a small Series 7, and a couple of W&N Cirrus ones (priced somewhere between GW and Series 7), and they're all miles better than the GW ones I used to get. I haven't tried the new GW ones, and TBH, probably won't be doing.

for me its either series 7, or I use 1 GW brush on a model and then bin it (well actually I keep them for duting and dry brushing), which is even more expensive.

I use GW, always have. Although i bought some army painter ones, there not great. I will get some WN ones on pay day i think.

SO its cirrus ones for basecoating and stuff and series 7 for detail?

cirrus and artists watercolour sable series are both better than GW brushes, they are my display standard brushes. Series 7 are another class above, if you werent happy to pay for series 7s then you could get either of the former ranges.
