morning all, just got an email this morning from wizzardworkshop of ebay and felixstowe fame in which he says that as from the june 1st ie today games workshop will no longer allow its new, factory sealed products to be sold on internet auction sites. bugger, there go my cheap chimera's ,as a side note i do rather feel for the ebay retailers that have built up a good feedback rating and have great customer service to have thier main stock supplier pull the carpet like this |

surely this just means that the cellophane has to be taken off before its sold? therefore it isnt factory sealed anymore, so should be ok? Edited by Brambleten, 1 Jun 2009, 08:52 AM.

This is easy to get around. Take off the cellophane, remove one of the sprues, clip off a headlight or the smoke launchers, put everything back in. No longer factory sealed. Come up with a designation so that everyone knows what the intent was like: IFR, intended for resale, similar to NIB and everyone will know what it means. |

Surely this only aplies to auction listings? Buy it nows, as well as shop sites like Wayland or Gamers Warehouse, should be all good. Probably trying to crack down on staffers undercutting them by buying stuff at 50% reduction, and auctioning it at anywhere between 30% and 45% reduction. Dave out. |

There is hardly any price difference between auctions and wayland etc anyway. |

nah i don't think so, from what i've seen its GW policy to stop all sales on internet auction sites whether it be actual auctions or buy it now, its the point to stop people selling on shops hosted by ebay. i'm sure there are people out there who could be more enlightening about the trade policy. |

GW are coming across a bit childish doing this. At the end of the day, some people simply won't buy stuff at their prices, so surely selling it at a slightly lower price is better than no sale. Personally, if I had to pay the GW price, I still would, just perhaps not quite as much. |

I recall from mentions elsewhere here that to be a stockist for GW a company had to maintain their own secure sales website did they not? As such under those conditions GW would be able to argue anyone selling on ebay would in theory be not an approved supplier. Thus GW can put a cap on those that are undercutting through non-approved means (eg staffers abusing discount etc). Its harsh, but GW would see it as trying to protect their sales and those of their independant stockists with whom they work. |

Very standard industry practice. As long as we still get Wayland etc doing decent discounts and 2nd hand stuff for those that need it cheaper I dont see a problem. |

Games workshop has had some issues in the last few months, from what i was told they took major action against one of there head office staff found to be leaking rumours out. They have taken action before but this one seemed to be more of an example to the others. In terms of sales all the Ebay chaps have to do is the same as Gamers Warehouse he sells new kits on the sprue but to save postage he removes them from the box. you get the kit and all the other bits just without the box, i got some tactical marines this way and he is and has been for over a year an official supplier from Gw. It should be added that his prices are at minimum 25% less than Gw and he offers other discounts the more you spend. I think it will all come down to whether the Ebay guys are officially recognised suppliers ie set up with the Gw's support or not. |

I think the ruling has been mentioned, the seller must have a secure website for selling, and most have on ebay 'buyforlessonline' takes you through security protocol after buying off their ebay listing. I don't think it applies to the big stores, its more aimed at the 'ebay' listings without a shop front. As its already been pointed out, this is unenforceable, I get 30% discount over the counter from my local independant dealer anyway, just GW flexing their muscles with no legal backing behind it. |
