This came up a while back and was never resolved: My devilfish is assaulted by one farseer. The next turn it does not move at all and i want to simply unload at a nearby squad of guardians, can it do that or does it still count as in close combat and so cannot shoot? |

As far as I know a vehicle without a WS can never be locked in close combat, BUT if you don't move after being assaulted, and in your Assault Phase there are still enemy models in base contact with your vehicle, those models may make close combat attacks in your phase. You're free to shoot, however. |

I agree wit hiveminion, also I think if the vehicle doesn't move then models in combat with it automatically hit don't they(or is that the old rules lol) just something to keep in mind in case u have say a sarge with power fist in contact

Yep, that's how I would play it. You can still use the vehicle as per normal, but if the farseer survives, he'll get auto hits on your fish. |

how does tank shock work? i drove a rhino into a unit of stealers and broodlord, and all my opponent did was said that he didnt want to make an attack or be run down thing so just swarmed the stealers around the rhino. i thought the idea of tank shock was that if you drove a tank into something it had to see if it could get out of the way before getting out of the way. any help would be great as im quite confused about it. |

it can move out of your way if it wants to, or it can stand and fight. One model makes a stand and fight move if it passes a leadership check. If it doesnt, it moves out of the way. It makes one attack that auto hits (iirc), and if that takes the vehicle down its good. If it doesnt, model is killed outright. A perfect example of how badly tank shock can go wrong is when the same eldar player attempted to tank shock his vyper 36 inches along my line and mess my entire gunline up/out of cover. Well the first unit it came to was one suit armed with missile pods. Auto hit strength seven versus armour 10, was a calculated risk that saw him wave byebye to a tank

Some points on Tank Shock though: - You don't have to move out of the way for a Tank Shock if the tank doesn't end up on top of you. If the tank passes through your unit and you pass Ld, you remain where you are, but if the tank stops "on top" of the unit, they must move out of the way by the shortest possible distance. - You can't tank shock if you're not a tank, so Speeders/Vypers etc. can't Tank Shock - You can only tank shock in the movement phase, so you can't use Star Engines to extend it to 36" A neat trick when Tank Shocking: if you have the option to take it, Extra Armour reduces the chance of a successful Death or Glory (assuming a penetrating hit is scored) down to 50%. Many people overestimate their chances with Death or Glory, until you run their 200 point Carnifex over with a 50 point Rhino.

not bad then. But yes, tank shock works something like that. i completely fail to see the strategic importance of it though... |

An Eldar opponent of mine used to use quite precisely to shove me off of objectives on the last turn and leave a me out in the open and the objective under his control. I think it is of more use to certain armies than others. |
