You'd win anyway jase ![]() Annoyed i missed the discussion, but it worked out the right way in the end. I had a great grandfather in the Somme, and 2 great uncles in the pacific theatre in WW2, and my grandfather was training in the merchant navy when VJ day happened. No reflection on me, just pride in what they did, especially for my great uncle who was MIA presumed KIA in bouganville behind Japanese lines for 4 months. Edited by Sheep, 25 May 2009, 06:36 AM.

My my, these models are lovely, Il sure be looking into this, wouldnt have found it without this thread. My granddad and a bunch of other relatives of mine fought in the Finnish Winter War against the Soviet invaders, it left scars sure, but it had to be done. I have my granddads "Injured in action" medal (he took a bullet to the head so he was never really himself again) |

I've just spent the last half hour looking at all the WWWII minis, and I really want to like the US/Allies, but Ze germans just look so much cooler, which is cool, but i'm sure everyone else is doing them But i would never play, just paint a couple so thats really a moot point.

My great grandad managed to survive all four years of WW1 including the 1st July 1916 without a scratch then got himself shot and nearly died in Afghanistan 1919 trying to drag a wounded buddy back into some kind of substantial cover. I never got to meet him, but he never ceased to be annoyed at getting through the great war untouched only to be slotted by a guerilla army in a place most people ahd never heard of...the cheeky blighters were using British Lee Enfields too! |

My dad could have bought those Enfeilds for five bucks in 03' when he was there. Should've done it, I love that rifle. Scary part is some are still covered in the original packing grease, or whatever it is called. |

afaik my grand parents were to young to fight in the war, my nan was hit by shrapnel from a bomb during the blitz though (ironically saving her life) my great uncle was in the desert though, lorry driver, hence my 8th army motorised co. in FoW. i think you read to far in to what is essentially a game, a game based in an essentially alternate universe where the occult [Not on the floor please] that the nazis believed in is in some way 'real'. it's no worse than the imperium of man in 40k, euthenasia, hatred of the 'abnormal', mass cullings, beset on all fronts, intolerance of disobedience, indoctrination, SS/space marines. and please dont forget a lot of what the nazis did was only on a grander scale of that which was happening in many other countries. experiments were carried out on american prisoners including testing the affects of seeing a radiation blast. and forced sterilisation was also being practiced in america as well as winston churchill himself passing legislation to make it legal in England. parallels can be drawn in everything and you get out of a game what you put in. i highly doubt anyone on here is a nazi and if they were they certainly wouldn't have broadcast it in such a way. i thought you were an alright bloke zealot, but i guess it's in the name. having said that WWWII doesn't appeal to me, pretty much because of what you mentioned (although you'll probably never read this now ), i think it makes light of a very serious period of history, however one which i am deeply interested in, which is why i play FoW for a bit more realism and...more sobriety. each to their own though, i certainly wont condemn anyones choices unless it impacts directly upon me .

having fired a 30-06 jase, i have some appreciation for just how violent some ww1 and two rifles were in terms of recoil... My great grandad fought in the great war, had his courier horse shot from under him once. Survived unscratched though... |

Both my grandfathers were in reserved occupations, meaning they were too valuable to go and fight. One an electriction on the ships and the other designing weapons. Both however played their part in civil defence however, being in the ARP (with my grandma) and the home guard respectively. Their brothers(-in-law) were a different matter however, one flying Halifaxes (ironically also his surname) one out in the north african desert, one on the railways and two I'm not sure about. Ahem, anyway. I do like the look of the minis, and IIRC some bits swap with IG bodies like all westwind products. However, this doesn't mean I would agree with and certainly wouldn't glorify nazism or some of the things it stood for. I say some, because, believe it or not, they also promoted some things which can be considered good... |

Grandpere- Landing craft, tank (LCT) skipper in the pacific theatre, 1943 till the end. Had tons of pics w/ native topless women, used to talk about fishing w/ hand grenades. He apparently killed a Japanese officer @ Iwo and took his katana as a war trophy, it is in our gun case now. Other grandpere- Naval aviator, devastator pilot. Went on to fight in Korea and Vietnam also. Shot down right after getting in theater, spent most of the remainder of the war recuperating. Flew trojans in Korea and spads in Nam. Grandma- Navy nurse, served at every single US amphibious landing of the war- from Anzio to Normandy, on the USS Mercy. More battle stars than you can shake a stick at and still alive, to boot. Great uncles- 1 B-17 navigator, Killed in Action, 1 Marine Sniper, survived WW2, killed in Korea, 1 Submariner, 1 Marine Combat engineer, carried a flamethrower under Puller (who he hated intensely, as did most marines who actually served under him-- his legend is totally bogus) and I think that is it. Did zealot get banned? What happened? Anyway, that is my family history, and I feel no animosity towards the Germans (who we didn't really fight against, as a clan) or the Japanese (they killed a few of us, but we killed plenty of them right back) Edited by latin poptart, 26 May 2009, 02:04 AM.

We do not discuss moderation issues with persons outside the mod team and the person being moderated. It's been handled. Mrs. Dean's G'pa was a flight engineer and was on ferry duty taking B-17s from the plant in Seattle to North Carolina I believe. Then he asked for active duty and went to B-29s flying off Tinian. Had 2 planes shot up enough to not continue... Had just been assigned to his 3rd plane when the war ended. Both my G'pas were in essential industries (One was a lead miner... Need lead for bullets). My dad VOLUNTEERED* for Vietnam and was rejected for his feet. *very early in the war obviously. Edited by dean, 26 May 2009, 02:12 AM.
