I'm just starting out in the game with my son Josh and I can't quite get my head round the attack phase between a sentinel and a dreadnought. Could some one walk me through it stage by stage. Also, how does it work against say a squad of Space Marines against a sentinel???
It might sound like a couple of stupid questions, but bear with me... I can find you a lot more!
Thanks,

Matt

Its vertually the same as for the infantry assault phase.
Lets say we are the dread we check the WS chart and roll to hit.
Then to roll to wound for how many hits you have adding D6 score to the stregnth of the dread rolling to penetrate the sentinels front armour 10 i think.
Then if any wounds are scored refer to the vehicle damage chart.

any more questions feel free i got lots of time :)

why do you add the D6 to the Dreads strength?

why do you add the D6 to the Dreads strength?
When rolling to penetrate armour on vehicles you take your weapons strength and add D6 to it. You then compare the total to the vehicles armour value, if you equal or better it, you've done enough damage to roll on the vehicle damage chart. B)

Vehicle rules can be quite confusing because they have a massive number of unique rules regarding moving, shooting, and close combat. You may want to just play a few games with just standard infantry before adding vehicles to the game. That said of all vehicles walkers work the most similar to infantry, just keep pages 72 and 73 of the rulebook close by, it has all nearly all the rules for them.

Good luck with your games!

Cheers. At the moment myself and Josh are using very very basic rules (as he is 7 and I'm thick!!!) but we're really enjoying it. I'm using Space Marines and Josh is using a mix of anything he can get his hands on. Yesterday I was up against Orks, Imperial Guard, Tyrannid GeneStealers and a couple of Space Marines that took his fancy at the last minute. I know its not as per the proper rules but at the moment it keeps him involved in it.
I love this website. I've tried others but there is a constant tirade of obscenities and arogance - two things never found on here! Congratulations and thanks to you all!

Give it time. :)

I remember my first game as a kid. A proxy force of Marines, Guard and Skaven standing in as something. Wish I still had the old models like.

Very nice to hear you say that. I hope you enjoy more time with us. Perhaps start up a project log and build your son his own army (Necron - dead easy to build, even easier to paint and only use variations on one weapon type to easy learn with)

Edit: Have you by any chance picked up the Starter set? Great mix of minis in there to start you off and learn the basic rules.

Got loads to be honest. I'm in the Navy and spent a large portion of 2008 away. I bought a lot before I went - mainly Cadian and Catachan but also a few Space Marines, Orks and Necrons. I bought the starter pack a few weeks ago when I visited Warhammer World - which was amazing. Josh spent his Easter money and I spent the overdraft!!! I've took a load of pics of stuff I've done but I've not got round to putting anything up yet. Gonna try this weekend (again)

We seem to be getting our fair share of forces personnel on here. Nice.

Well I look forward to your pictures. Be sure to start a project log now.....
