Alright.....to be honest I never thought I would do a thread like this..... First off, I've entered the fantasy painting challenge. Looks like it will be great fun and stuff only there is one prob, I still need to choose an army .Basically I rounded down the choices to WoC, Dark Elves, high elves and lizardmen. Initially I also had empire and VC, but empire isn't the easiest army to paint (lots of models and no good surfaces for washes and other easy good result painting techniques) and I already have a small VC army, but after a few games I noticed it wasn't much more than moving forwards and casting spells. Thnx to the undead rule you couldn't do much more and the skellies are really dependent to the vamps. Sadly the lizardmen will also fall off the list, since I friend of mine recently started lizardmen and it's kinda lame IMO to have the same army (mainly because he is 1 of the 2 only fantasy players in my club). This leaves me to dark elves, high elves and chaos. If I put them next to each other they are all fairly unique races. Each with great magic potential. Elves have good shooting and hard hitting combat units. Chaos has great combat units with lots of monsters and most units are almost as good in taking a punch as much as they can deal it. What are your experiences with these army's? what did you like/dislike about them? Any tips? I think in the end I'll maybe choose WoC, mainly because you can have a good army and still don't need to paints lots of models. Also the chaos range is one of the best in fantasy IMO. Together with empire and dark elves. Kudos for any help offered, realy appreciate it .

i play with High Elves (or did till the new Lizardmen came out) and they are good army in every department, and in my opinion, are really helped by having to have less core and being allowd more specials and rares. Always strikes first is good, but not as hyped up as people thought when they first came out. Dark Elves, i have a lot of experience playing against, and they are another army like high elves (wonder why )if you went for them, a solid base of spearmen and repeater crossbowmen would be the bulk of your army, supported by good magic and assassins which are a pain in the arse. hydras are fun as well. chaos have very good magic, and even the most basic of units (marauders and hounds) can hold their own in combat, whilst most other units can annihilate their foes on their own. they lack the shooting of the other two armies, (apart from the hell cannon and throwing spears on the marauder horsemen) but more than make up for this by the coolness and combat brilliance of some of the units (i.e. dragon ogres and Shagoth) hope that helps, and i vote High Elves |

Thnx for the reply, really appreciate it . But in the end I'm going for VC, mainly because I still have a few boxes lying around here and it's almost a shame not to use those models. VC are also very easy to paint to a good lvl which means it will be ideal to balance it out with my IG/DA project the coming months. Stay tooned for some neat updates in my log .
