Ok, I'm on the band wagon for the Fantasy challenge, (for which I blame no-one ) so I decided to run 2 logs--1 for fantsy stuff, and the other for my 40k stuff. Anyway, here are the humble beginnings of my Chaos army. I'm still running from the older book, since no-one nearby plays fantasy I haven't bought it yet. Marauders ![]() ![]() Chaos Warriors--marked by Nurgle ![]() ![]() I need to finish building up both units and start building the rest of the army. I'm not half the painter that a lot of you seem to be, so I'm going to be using mostly older models to try to make my army stand out a little. Besides, I've already got them, so why buy more? |

You're damn right, some of the older figures are so much lovelier than new ones. And did I spot in the second picture on the right an old norsemen figure? Looking forward to see it updated. |

Great idea. Keep's it interesting too. I imagine lot's of sneaky e-bay wins could turn up some really cool old figures. See if you can get hold of Kaleb Daark, one of my favourite models. |

Novogord--I agree, I've got a box of the newest Chaos Warriors, and while the detail is excellent, I'm not too keen on the same pose throughout. Regarding that fellow you asked about, I'm sorry, but I'm not entirely certain; I picked up around 50 of them at a yard sale a while back. Digits--If you want to see old figures, keep watching this space! I'll keep an eye out for Kaleb, I've never seen that figure before.Update: Finished building the warriors of Nurgle: Standard bearer, Musician, Champion, regular joe ![]() rank 2 ![]() rank 3 ![]() rank 4 ![]() I'm not certain what to do with the standard bearer, though. I'm thinking either hanging stuff from the Chaos vehicle sprue off of it, or actually making a banner and trying to freehand something on it. What do you think? |

You should add a corpse or something to it, but that is my personal opinion... And I have a question, how is that fellow with his horn going to blow on it? I don't think that it is that easy with a helmet on

Novogord--Well, you see, it works like this......er, nevermind, this is family forum. It's a chaos thing. Small update: I've begun undercoating the Nurgle warriors, but I've hit a snag. Which way do you think I should paint the trim on the armour, like the one on the left or the one on the right? ![]() I also started working on a unit of knights while waiting for paint to dry, however I have a very eclectic collection of knights. Do you think that all the different styles will look alright together in one unit?

I think having a mix is fine. You could gs in a few features such as fur to link them or indeed just link them by painting. If you can mix riders and mounts too that would help. |

No opinions on either question? C&C, please. I asked my wife what she thought, and she liked the one on the left, 'because it's shinier' , but I'm not sure if 'shiny' and 'nurgle' really belong together. I'm really stuck here, someone's got think one looks better than the other, or have a different thought altogether. Anyway, here's the list of what I'm trying to complete: Mounted Lord 1 unit of 16 warriors with mark of Nurgle 1 unit of 16 warriors 1 unit of 20 marauders 2 units of 5 marauder horsemen 1 unit of 5 knights with mark of Khorne 1 unit of 5 knights 1 Sorceror and possibly a small unit (5?) of Chaos Hounds to eat up leftover points What do you think? |

Go with the shiny one but use devlan mud on the metal after to dirty it up. |

Shiny, then dirty it is then! Thank you kindly for the input, I was really stuck on which way to proceed with them. |

Sorry Digits, didn't see your reply to the question about the knights before I posted. Thanks for the input, I'm hoping that the paint job will tie them together somewhat. I'm also thinking of ideas to try to look the horses a little different from each other. I've been alternating between painting the unit of Nurgle warriors and building the marauders when I need a break from the brush. I'll get pics of the warriors in a few days, but in the meantime, here are the newly built marauders. Whole unit ![]() Front rank ![]() second rank ![]() third rank ![]() fourth rank ![]() So, what do you think? |

Double post, sorry. Here's what I'm doing with the Nurgle warriors (wip) ![]() And I was thinking about what Digits said about swapping around mounts for my knights and started thinking about converting some Bretonnian horses. In an effort to put armor on 'em I've come with a couple of ideas that I thought I'd bounce off of you folks. 1. GS some chain mail 2. Attach plasticard banding, like so: ![]() Do you think it would look better that way, or vertical? 3. Some of both So, what do you think? C&C, please. |

Mix it up. Vertical on some horizntal on others. GS chainmail is apparently easy to do (though I've never done it myself!) |

Like digits said, make both of them. It is chaos after all and chaos isn't clean and nice and such stuff, so you can let your imagination get loose... For the list you made, I should change the numbers on your warriors: 15, 18 or 20 but not 16... It is al about the ranks you know... O and a unit filler would look nice, some kind of ogre... |

Ok, that's sorted then. I'll try my hand at doing one of each type. May try to work some GS chain mail in there, too. I hope it's as easy as i imagine it is, my GS experience is limited to gap filling. Novogord--I was thinking 4 ranks of 4. That's what all the pictures in the (last) army book show. Is that a bad set up? About the unit filler, how does that work? An ogre would fill a larger base so would it count as 2 models or what? I do kind of like the idea, just wondering how it would work. Thanks for the feedback, guys. |

Well, nowadays you need to have 5 figures to make a rank complete. So if you keep your set-up like it is now, you don't have any ranks. And for chaos warriors, you don't need the ranks, but the fighting skill, so you could make them 6 wide. For the unit filler, you could use an ogre. It is something like I did with that Kroxigor in my free compagny unit and that statue in my spear men unit. Many find it cheap, but it works I think. SO you could use an ogre, put it on a few bases (3) and lets it count for 3 warriors or something similar... Hope this explains something and helps you a little. |

Ah, I see. My local shop really needs to hurry up and get the new chaos army book... What would you recommend; drop 1 and have 3 ranks of 5, or add 2 more for 3 ranks of 6? I'm leaning more towards dropping one as I've already started painting them and stopping to build 2 more would muck up my motivation, as well as the 'assembly line' process I've got going, but I'm always willing to listen to advice from others. As for the unit filler, I'm definately thinking of one for the next unit, since it isn't built yet. Are they legal to use, or is it a 'friendly game' only sort of thing? Thanks for your feedback. |

Another double post...oh, well. Anyway, while waiting for paint to dry on the Nurgle warriors, I started working on the next unit of warriors. Due to digging up these, I'm making them lizard themed. ![]() Here are the first 2 I've built ![]() What do you think of the color scheme on the guy on the left? Acting upon Novogord's advice, I've made up a unit filler; he started life as an ogre. I gave him an old cold one head, plasticard scales, and spikes/spines carved from sprue. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm still working out his base; other than that, what do you think? Does he need more, or is he ok as is? C&C, please. |

Normally are unit filler legal, so no problem their. But some might call it cheap... So on the modelling site, your dinosaur looks good! Keep it up! |

My May unit is finished; the Nurgle warriors were actually completed this past weekend; real life has been a complete pain in the arse this week though. I'll get pictures up tomorrow, Saturday at the latest, scout's honor! |
