Since the Basilisk is basically an 88mm artillery piece, could it be employed as an Anti Aircraft gun, with Special Rules? Like the German 88mm Flak cannon. For example: Basilisk Anti Aircraft Cannon. Special Rules: Anti-Aircraft Mount Target Priority: The Anti-Aircraft version of the earthshaker cannon is predominantly used to target enemy Bombers. Hence, if it fires at anything designated smaller than a bomber (use a marauder for scale purposes) then it suffers a -1 to hit. Solid Shot: The effect of shells fired at Aircraft differs from those fired at ground targets. Hence, when firing at an aircraft, the basilisk does not use its usual weapon stats, it uses the following: Str: 8, AP: 3, Heavy 1. What do you think? |

Looks like a decent way of switching roles. Maybe make a modification to the cannon that can have it tilt skyward to show it has anti-air capabilities? |

i think it sounds like pure anti air rape. Bear in mind (which bear/bare please? HALP!!) that 95% of aircraft in 40K are armour 10, so it probably sounds about right now i sit down and think it through... Oh, and call the variant a basilisk armed with Airshaker (i stole that name from someone on this site...) |

Yeah neat idea, and would look cool in a modelling sense. The Earthshaker platform from FW would be a good place to start. Rules seem sound as well |

In AI the Heavy Flak Gun is simply an Earthshaker without the gun shield. In 40k terms it would simply be an Earthshaker with an AA mount allowing it to fire at aircraft more easily. While any plane being hit by a shot is in serious trouble the chances are the platform at AV10 wouldn't survive to shoot again. If it had the chance to fire the first time, any aircraft coming onto the board would target any AA defences first. |
