War of the Ring; Because I am weak.......

So, went down to GW today and had a play around with the new game. Got to say, first impressions were that it works well, quite simple without being over simplistic. I think this is a game where tactics and manouvering will win the day over anything else. Of course, it's early days and it may be crap when I play it properly, but I liked it enough to buy the book (damn GW, damn them ^o) ). So now it looks like I'm playing 40, fantasy and War of the Ring.

On the bright side, I took a mate along and he got sucked in as well, so at least I've got one opponent.

Anyone else going to be giving this game a go? Will ammobunker soon become infested by Hobbits and Ringwraiths?

what? It costs about the same as a 1500 point 40K army...probably less in fact...

I love the game though :) is brilliant. my group of 10 kataphrakts shall rule all! Mhuhahahaha!

yea but most 40k armes are all plastic even most of the stroung guys but in lord of the ring if you want 1 metal 8 man group for war of the ring it costs £24 and you have 2 men left. and becuase i play Corsair that only gives me one boxset of normaly guys and the Arbalesters the other ones i have to make me self so i will have to me another set whice will not even give 3 groups.

I read the review on BoLS. It might give me an excuse to eventually pull out the Dol Amroth stuff I've been collecting. I always thought Prince Imrahil was pretty cool. I was going to convert all of my plastic Gondor Men at Arms into a more Dol Amroth feel, with swan helmets and such. It all depends on the army lists available to Imrahil in War of the Ring, which I have not seen yet. I don't want to be stuck with just those Men at Arms pikemen.

i've been steadily building and painting 1000 points of easterlings (easterlings with moria allies (for trolls which will be converted to wear easterling armour and a dragon (i figure it fits in to the easterling theme (dragon knights etc)). still no where near finished though XD

still need a box of easterling warriors (making 4 boxes :P ) and the dragon (for 1.5k)

Not yet read the book totally but:

Up to 25% of your force can be allies from the whole good or evil range. However, I suspect you could do more in a friendly game. It's a good way of avoiding just being stuck with only a few units.

Most of the armies have box sets of plastic troops, which are something like £14 for 20 odd models - I don't think you could call that anything other than good value. However, the metal mini's are expensive, as they are for every game.

Think I am going to just collect a general good army, with a leaning towards elves, just can't find the elven cavalry for sal anywhere. Anyone know if GW still do them?

there are plastic galadhrim slated for release later this year (cavalry as well as plastic bowmen/glaive armed elves)

those are the elves from lothlorien (celeborn and galadriel)

but apart from that? no.

edit: if you have the WoTR book there are pictures in there.

Yes, it has become clear to me now, new mini's in June for the elves. I hope GW are going to fully support this game with more plastic mini, quite a lot is metal for some races so it can get expensive.

i doubt they'll re-do much of the old stuff (if anything it'll just be core troops choices (most of which have already been done). i reckon the vast majority of new stuff will be plastic (bar heros/legendary formations etc).

of course if WoTR really does spur enough sales i might be wrong :) (i'm hoping i am!)
