Well you can blame Digits for this one. :D

Many, many moons ago I used to play Warhammer Fantasy Battles (first to fourth ed I think) and have commanded Orcs, Empire, Skaven and Chaos during that time in many shapes and forms.
However the lure of forty kay always proved too strong for me to resist and despite my aspirations to conquer the old world be it in Mighty Empires, Mordheim, WFB or good old Man o War.

Now I have once again returned to what was once a major part of the hobby to me. Truth is I've dabbling with the idea for some time now as the newer generation of plastics are really nice but have been put off by the sheer number of models often needed to field an army. But now that Digits has thrown down the gauntlet I've decided to dust off my armour, muster the troops and prepare to serve the dark gods once more.

The main reason for chaos is because unlike forty kay they are more like hordes of marauding barbarians. Empire were tempting as was Skaven but truth be told I fancy a good old fashion melee style army over the magics and fire power of the other two.

I've also got a box of Chaos Warriors and Marauder horsemen lying around from other projects so after buying a box of Knights I'm ready to get to grips with the core of my fledgling army.

I'm using the previous edition of Warriors of Chaos at the moment as a rough guide untill I get around to buying the newer army book so I may need to make some alterations here and there as I'm pretty rusty.

I'll post some pictures as soon as my camera has charged.

Every army has to start somewhere so here's the first two minis.

Akhor

Akhor is the chieftan of my Kurgan tribe that forms the basis of my warband/horde (Akhor being the Kurgan word for fear).

I'm not sure what his patron will be as yet but as you can see he's a fairly simple conversion using some Warrior legs and the upper body from a Knight.
I'll be sprucing him up and sticking him in a large group of warriors which will basically be the anvil of the army. In truth it's probably better to stick him on a steed or monster but I've always liked the idea of generals fighting amongst their men and there's more conversion potential.
I might at some point make a mounted version when I get around to buying some more knights.

Marauder Horseman

This is pretty much a straight out of the box build. I'm giving this unit throwing spears so they can harass enemy warmachines and hopefully draw fire from the warriors. I'll back these guys up with a more powerful knight unit at some point.

Will everyone PLEASE stop blaming me!!! Every second thread I open........ :'(

Anyway, in support of a fellow chaos warrior, good choice, keep it up! I've built my first five marauders straight from the box, but I think furs and skins are called for.

I do like that Lord Conversion, although I think he is in need of a cloak! I also need to get some more Marauder Horsemen, there is never enough of those bad boys!

Digits: Aww mate...I think it was just a freaky coincidence that everyone put the same thing at the begining of their logs. It'd probably be better to put it as "Digits was the inspiration behind this army..." :)
I agree furs and cloaks would look good on these guys.

Death Korp: Yeah I was thinking that as well, if I can find one that'll fit and allow him to still fit the rank I may add one. For now I'm adding surplus weapons to show his status as a warrior.

Update

To be honest I'm not a fan of the warrior models mainly because they all look the same and have very little variation. To get around this I've made a champion using one of the knight bodies in the same way I made the lord. I want the unit to have halberds and shields, so I'm going to have to build some from scratch.
Failing that I'll go the much slower and more expensive route of making them all the same way as the lord.
What I'm thinking now is to make this unit pretty big with two ten man Marauder units to protect the flanks or act as meatshields.

Very nice. If I was to do foot, I think I'd be inclined to do the same. A spare box of knights wouldn't break the bank too much.

I really like Akhor. I think he needs a cloak of some kind. Now weather it be human skin, scaled, or fur thats up to you, but I do think he needs a cloak.

If you want I could ship some of my chaos knight lances for you to use.

Thanks guys! :)

Digits: Yeah the way I'm going it might make for a better looking unit to do them all this way. It means that every five men will cost about fifteen quid which concidering that the metal chosen are nearly eighteen for five that's not too bad a deal really plus I got a Lord out of it as well.
I can see why you're going all cavalry though as they're really nice models. What I'm tempted to do is buy some Khermi chariots and convert them using the spare warhorses to give me some extra punch.
I'm also curious about the war shrine thing as well but have no idea what it is.

Ah! Now I've had an idea about that. I'm going to get that dead cart from vampire stuff and pinch all the bodies out of it. Then I need to mock up a more substantial cart and come up with some apprpriate pulling beasties....

That's a great idea. I was thinking of getting that cart for the hooded guy that comes with it and turn him into a sorceror to go with the marauders.
Maybe something like wardogs might look pretty cool pulling that and the corpse parts would be great for conversions and trophies.

Great minds and all that!!! lol Were're going to have so much chaos between us all, it would be a mighty fine sight indeed if we could muster them all together next year!

Really looking forward to how this all evolves.

Yeah it'd make a great army, you handle the cavalry and I'll provide the infantry! :D

Good to be working on the same army actually, between us I'm sure we'll come up with some killer stuff.

All we got to do now is find a couple of "goody two shoes" players to trounce! :D

Cheers guys! :)

Dino: Sorry mate I missed your reply, must have posted at the same time. :D
Cheers for that mate, if I need any I'll give you a shout!

The Antipope: Yeah it's great to see so many joining in on the action. I was getting fed up of forty kay and this might be the distraction I need to get my mojo back. I'd forgotten how much fun fantasy can be.

Sheep: It's a dead simple conversion as well. I'm not too keen on the regular guys and figured this is a bit close to what I see as a chaos warrior.

Marovian: I'm not sure why chaos is so popular, might be the whole barbarian horde thing.

Thanks guys! :)

Got the first five models nearly finished now before I begin painting. Still got some GS work and detailing but they're getting there.

Being that I'm not one to waste any bits the leftovers will be combined (with some GS work) to create the knights for the army.
