basically, if your strength is double the toughness of your enemy, its instant death, ignoring armour saves but not invuls.

Its the strength of the weapon, not the model using it, unless its in close combat.

For example a Lascannon (Str 9) will instant kill a Marine (toughness 4), whereas in close combat its the models str thats used. So take a powerfist against a marine, that becomes str 8 (marines str x 2) against toughness 4.

I think thats right!

You can get an armour save sometimes and can be insta killed!

Like for example, a Battlecannon shot lands on top of a Terminator Captain (managed to stroll onto an ordanance practice range!).

The Battlecannon is AP 3 Str 8, so that means the Captain will still get his save becasue his armour save is less then the battle cannon's AP. BUT, if he fails that save, he loses both his wounds and is insta killed because he is T4 and the battle cannon is strength 8.

So, use Demolisher cannons against terminators people!

Or Shokk Attack Guns!

Interesting that termies could get no armour save against a potentially S3 weapon, ha ha.
