I think I'm shooting myself in the foot by reading these Steven Erikson books, they're considerably larger than the standard novel. I'd be much farther along by now I suppose. I can't help but love the books though.

Just received:

The Two-Bear Mambo - Joe R Lansdale (who wrote the short story that Bubba Ho-Tep was based on if you've seen it. If you haven't...then why the feck not?! Get it now!)

He - Rabindranath Tagore

I'm going to have to give the Horus Heresy books a go soon. Any definite hits or misses?

a lot of people say decent of Angels (the Dark Angels one) is a definite miss, but i quite enjoyed it. i've read the first 7 HH books and they were all very good. havent managed to get my hands on the others yet unfortunately

Yup, if you read Decent out of context of the other books and not expecting it to carry on from the previous book, its actually (in my opinion) the best by far... The story is pretty cool and its well written with good characters and a good background...

i read it first :D
i ordered that and then a box set of the first 5 for Christmas a couple of years ago and a couple of weeks after Christmas my parents realised they hadnt put the order through on the box set. so i read it and enjoyed it, although having since read the others, some of them are better (not Legion though, it just didnt make any sense to me)

Guess I'll just got through them in order then!

I have to admit to a fair bit of literary snobbery when it comes to GW novels. I've got a few old ones that I really enjoyed way back when but haven't gone back to for a long time, Inquisitor, Route 666, and the Konrad trilogy which I did re-read not sol ong ago and was really disappointed by after remembering it being great.

I'll have to balance myself out with one high-brow and one GW novel for a while :D

I wasn't particularly impressed with Fulgrim, actually, it's probably the reason I haven't read anything past it yet.

Is Brothers of the Snake worth it? What makes it different from the normal brand of 40k fiction?

AR - Ravenor is very good, as is the second one. the third is alright, but to me the ending seemed weak. i'd like to know what you think about it though :)
