Just how out of date?; Out of date codexes... are any usable?

Hi all,

Well I've been rooting through my old collection of books and whatnot sat on the shelves as part of clearing out some junk, and I've come across a number of old Codexes. Now I was last buying them up to around 2001-2003 - the period where GW extended the life of the 40k 3rd Edition by re-releasing codexes without changing the rules.

Of course, I know 4th edition followed around 2004/5 and the 5th edition uncommonly quickly in 2008 - but I gather not all of the codexes have been updated yet and are still considered game-legal.(What happened to GW's masterplan 5 year cycle for games anyway?)

So I guess my question is, is any of what I have unchanged and still legit for gameplay or have all of the codexes updated in 4th edition while I was away? I'm especially curious about the Cityfight book released in 2001 as I still note GW selling a similar product.

Also, I did pick up the old early Imperial Armour hardback tomes (volume 1 - Guard and volume 2 - Marines) are they still in use?

I know what I've got is still nice from a fluff point of view, but space is at a premium, so if they're not usable I might just end up getting rid...

Thanks

GB

I think the Guard codex is alright for about another month, after that only the Dark Eldar and Space Wolf codexes haven't been touched yet.
