Hi guys, I'm fairly new to Tau and was just wondering if the Fish of Fury tactic still works in 5th or if you have to change things around a little to make things work. If there are any other similar tactics involving this sort of thing then please tell me, because as I said I'm new to Tau! For those people who don't know what Fish of Fury is, chek it out here |

hey dude, if you want answers to that question i suggest you have a look on Advanced Tau Tactica, they would definately have a solid answer. However, i would tenatively suggest that it is still a viable tactic, albeit one that i never use. Why? I play against dark eldar and eldar regularly, and find it somewhat pointless to move your fire warriors into range when you could just let the two fastest armies in the game run onto your gunline by the beginning of turn two. This is a tactic that has resulted in a cool slaughter regularly Tau casualties are high, but when it comes to objectives all you need is one more scoring unit than the enemy...And if you have spare slots, subdivide units. Its the most effective way of making you harder to kill and increasing flexibility ![]() I would say check out my tau log but its buried about 10 pages back till i fire it up again when i return from canada

I think it is still a possible tactic, but you have to remember that you need TRUE line of sight under the Devilfish. The way to get that is copious use of bent legs and a high flying stand. Of Course, how your opponents might react is anyone's guess. I suspect Fish of Fury is more a case of being able to move 12" and rapid fire, but you lose the protection against assault you had before. Best way would be to use it to pick on isolated squads, and use a pair of Fire warrior squads. |

Don't forget that if you're going to use your Fish to block assaults on the Fire Warriors, and the opposition assault the Fish instead, they'll be hitting its rear armour, regardless of facing. As Marovian says, you're probably better off only doing it when you can apply enough force to the target unit to crush them utterly though them being already depleted or by applying 2 Fish worth of FW at the same time. |

and bear in mind that at 80 points per fish, if your against a more mobile army thats 8 fire warriors you will be wanting... |
