Edit: This thread has changed direction and is dedicated to the building of my Sisters of Battle Commandery (Convent). Cut out the preamble and jump to page 3 to see it start.

Andy's fault!

Anyway, these boards are just gathering dust so I need to start getting them into a game worthy condition.

The first thing I needed to do, was to build yet another Pegasus bridge as the first one I built just ain't big enough! So this one is going to need painting but not before I plaster a few more dead over it. Some of these dead will be Blood Pact. It's a large bridge so I need to add some details to make it interesting.

This bridge will need defending. I intend to buy a couple of FW Pillboxes and scratch a few emplacements, such as these Tobruk's, awaiting a splash of paint.

Don't expect miracles, this will take a little time in between other projects.

Looking good thus far mate. Are you going for a river or a wadi under the bridge?

Dave, it can be a dry wadi! Need to keep the boards flexible. I may have to build up the bridge approaches (or two removeable bases) as the bridge isn't high enough for a Chimera to scoot under.

Andy :P

If it's remotely the same colour then can't see why not!

Isn't that a requirement for wadi classification?

Dave out.

Aye, it's a dried up riverbed to be sure. I've driven through a few in the Oman that had water pools in though. I just don't want to model water or streams so Wadi will be dry.

Sounds like a good premise for the board. Maybe use a bit of filler to make more of a slope heading up towards the bridge?

By not sleeping. Really. Only about 5 hours a night so I have at least 3 hours after everyone else is in bed.

Plus, I work 40 hours over 4 ½ days so I get Friday to myself. Things slow down in the Summer with other hobbies & holidays though.

I suppose I need to start sanding these then....

No, don't like them as they are, they definitely need sand. Besides, all my buildings / figures / scenic stuff are based the same way.

fair one though I would be a bit concerned that the sand may make them more prone to wear and tear. with sections of sand lifting everytime you take them out of the case. I presume you are looking at using PVA to stick it down.

not worrying about the cross over with other terrain that much myself, I dont think it will be that much of an issue.

would spraying it with hair spray help stop that? when doing Art with chalk pastels we sprayed it with that stuff to help it stick

Hairspray wouldn't be strong enough if the boards rubbed together I'm afraid. I see where Andy is coming from. Often pva'd sand will lift from the edge of say a heavy weapon base. That's why I dab clumps of superglued sand around the edges first.

Anyway, I wasn't planning to cover the whole board, just selected areas.

I'd thought of that myself but was worried I'd make the boards too single use. Looks nice though.
