Size isn't important Dave, its how you use it!
Thanks Gav :)

But, looking at your avatar, I'm tempted to call you a hypocrite here..... :P

Ah don't worry about it Dave, it's nothing to get worked up about. Ican see the argument from both sides. I have a FW fighta and I love it, it does indeed have a certain factor to it that makes people go wow and I would be sorry if GW did a plastic one.

At the same time though I'd be pleased cause I could take a squadron.

One thing I have to concede on is that the Valk isn't a skimmer and never has been. That doesn't make any sense at all and I most likely wouldn't include them in a standard guard army.

Yeah I aggree that the Valk should not be a skimmer, but on the other hand I see many conversions in my future, vulture, thunder bolt, fightas, misc aircraft.

I'm looking forward to the guard codex now, it seems like the new kits and options are going to really shake things up. I don't think I need any plastic valkyries but you never know.

Oi Arhalien, leave my avatar alone! lol, tis lovely....if slightly fake.

And Dave, twas the huge scroll bar caused by your outrageously large........word that needed changed. So I did lol.

Yeah the Valk isn't a skimmer, but I think as has been mentioned the reason for that is to make it fit with the existing rules, as I feel its probably way too much hassle to have an entire set of rules for one model. I know there are flyer rules, but I think the idea is that the Valk will perform in a way similar to the Wave Serpent and Devilfish.

Your avatar is the main reason I don't access the Bunker on school computers: they tend to be very slow at resizing the avatars, and your avatar is quite large... and noticable, especially in a school library :P

A case in point for the whole Resin vs Plastic debate.

GW went how long, 10? 15 years without a plastic Ork battlewagon?

What happened when the FW one came out? Not much at all. I've yet to see one on the web or on the table anywhere, and they've been out on sale for about 6 years.

I for one had despaired for the Ork army I had at the time and never been able to build anything close to one, nor afford to get a FW one.

What happened when the plastic one came out? Well it brought me back to buying from GW for the first time in 3 years - seeing one in the cabinet and knowing I could get my grubby mits on it was just too good to pass up and now I'm building the whole damn army from there on in. Plus I've seen a few on here now too, including some conversions that would just be out of reach for many people's wallets in Resin only.

I do agree there's a place for FW and they great work they do, but I've always believed they should be the front runner for later expansion or for the conversion and variant options they bring. Beyond that if they have something successful and want to bring it out, I'm glad. Without that GW would have stopped at the new Rhino and LR kits , things like the Wave Serpent wouldn't have happened. It's been good for the hobby overall I think.

Also, as an aside point, I can only assume that the cost of these plastics in terms of R&D is falling fast - they made a big fuss over the LR and Rhino being replaced being that the R&D and manufacture technology cost £1m just for the LR, so they had to be sure it'd be for things that sell.

Not to break the rubric or anything but I've never been 'wowed' by FW stuff, to me if often screams of more money than sense.

I'd be exponentially more 'wowed' by someone making a real effort, the amount of utter rubbish I've seen a FW kit become does it - I'm not going to 'wow' and congratulate someone for spending £280 on a Titan, I would however do so for someone who made a scratchbuilt one, or a scratchbuilt Stormblade, like Tinners, who spends time actually recreating these things to a better standard than FW casts.

Don't get me wrong, the one thing I'd like from FW is a Macharius Vanquisher, but that's £90 I haven't got to spend on A MODEL, probably because I spent that much over the past 3 months on Haribo*, but I wouldn't be any less 'wowed' by it if GW made one, half the price. It's also made me seriously consider attempting to scratchbuild one... No such luck so far...

And, as long as GW is about, you're going to have snotty kids that own a big model, but that's why we learn to paint between the lines, so that when we plonk our models down, they don't look like menstrual art.

Bring on plastic Valkyries, then plastic Thunderbolts and I'll make the IDF and Israeli Air Force. :D

SC

* - I do hope that's an exaggeration.

The Valkyrie will be a skimmer in the Guard Codex but there will be flyer rules with Planetstrike in July.

The rumoured next upgrade to the rules for summerish this year. Similar to apocalypse, it covers and expands rules for planes, ship shooting planets, planets shooting ships and so on. Has been rumoured almost as long as a new Codex Dark Eldar, though is usually shot down by most GW staffers.

Well being one of those Forge World addicts out there I can agree with both highmarshaldave and schoolcormorant... I bought my Elysians because I realy liked the models and they weren't that common, I also like the painting part of the hobby most so I thought that I'd spend some extra money to get some realy nice models to paint. (Having a work and living with your parents realy help on the money part!) I have about 100 Elysians, 3 lightnings, 1 vulture and 1 valkyrie but I don't want anyone to just go "wow" because I have all those models, I try to put an effort in it so they'll go wow over the paintjob or what I've done to the models.

It's all about how the person in question treats his resin goodness and I have seen very bad examples of it aswell as very good ones.

I don't think I will buy any more Valkyries to my army (At top one so all my stormtroopers have one) because it will cost to much... I do not see any better reason to why I should go throwing my money away buying 3 Valkyries all of a sudden as saving my money and buying a Valkyrie from Forge World... Actually, I probably would still buy it of Forge World because they are a very friendly, nice bunch of people that really enjoys what they are doing and are much more focused on pleasing the players out there then their own pockets (A little more then GW at least, though maybe not to 100% :P) ... I support Forge World!

Nuff said about that... Sorry about ranting but I wanted you people to see how a Forge World addict see on this! :P About the plastic Valk it does look amazing, just like the resin model... We'll see what people can make out of it. The other rumors are looking nice aswell, I guess it can well be true when they say that GW is realy putting an effort in the tanks of the Imperial Guard. I for one would be very happy to have the old Russ variants like Exterminator, Griffon or Vanquisher back in the real codex! Penal troopers is very tempting though!

And yes... If you are planning on building a new guard army with the new codex... Buy your cadians/catachans now because chances are that GW will start selling them in 10 packs like the orks which will cost more in the long run. Just a tip! ;)

I'm wondering if there is anything that a plastic Valk will prompt FW to do - any add ons or conversion kits?
Otherwise theyy should just go with the usual of something much bigger - Thunderhawk sized IG transport

VAULK is a skimmer and a flier in the same way a harrier gr7 is a fast jet with VTOL. I see no problem with this as a real world "comparison" already exists (by comparison I mean flight capabitlity not transport capacity).
