Before people start moaning about the squadron rules damaging russes in some respects, remember that there are a possible 9 russes per army, which needs to be balanced by something.
Also, it's not like we aren't able to take seperate vehicles.

i believe they are all imobilized. You only loose an imobilised vehicle if the rest of the squadron moves on iirc...

and i started putting together my first cadian heavy weapons team today :)

Well actually, the squadron rule is total pants!!!! Just ruined my day that has. :(

Looks like I'll only ever be fielding tanks in Apocalypse then.

I was going to suggest Track guard to give you some resilience to the squadron rule, but noticed they seem to have disappeared!

Yeah, the funny thing is that the squadroning rule is fairly redundant. Who can affort to take more than three heavy support tanks in a "normal" game? And, as Digitis pointed out, Apocalypse allows you take armies outwith the confines of the FOC, meaning the need for squadrons is ruled out. The only benefit, as such, is in taking multiple Valkyries since, close formations aside, you get a small bonus for no actual penalty.

Did they actually think this through?

Dave out.

1st impressions of the Codex is - well that's a very dull unexciting codex to look at. The last few had great modelling bits to them, but this doesn't even have alternate colour schemes really. Very poor Eavy Metal section.

Yeah, that was my point Dave/Brambs. And most folk I know would be speeding around like mad things. Tis just silly though, especially considering that Vultures are still fliers.

*mumble mumble*

Dave out.

i learned that i can get a command squad, 10 stormtroopers with transport, 2 platoon commands, 4 infantry squads, a special weapons squad, 2 commissars, a psyker, a Devil Dog and 2 sentinels for under 1000 points.
insane. for a marine player to look to get that many bodies on the board and have a reasonable army is completely unexpected for me.

Keravin - i agree, the eavy metal bit is poor. i was comparing it to the marine dex, and it seems that marines got colour schemes, the guard got models, and they are too busy showcasing the models to tell us how to paint them

all the recent dexes seem to be shying away from the modeling side. A pity in my opinion but there you go.

anyway in better news apocalypse data sheets
stormies and valks FTW an impetus for me to get those naval stormtroopers finished

I'd disagree.

The Marine codex had a great Eavy Metal section. Some really nice armies on show including SpikyJames' White Scars, some different colour schemes including stuff that hadn't been seen before and it is a nice book to reference.

In contrast we got multiple shots of guardsman with lasguns in the same uniform schemes and even at least one model that the army can't field - Sergeant with boltgun.

I see your dissagree and I raise you a I beg to differ!

yes there are lots of pics but there is no 'you could do this' of old. All the new dexes just show pictures of pretty standard figures. The fact of the marine one showing lots of different chapter colours is not surprsing given the fact that standard SM armies are arguably Ultra with a different coat of paint so not that hard to do, granted there are pictures of complete armies which are good.
What the marine dex does have over this one is the colour graphics of diferent chapters and a bit of background. but still I find it, the DA and this codex a little dissapointing graphically I like the old IG dex better I'm sorry to say(I also hate fliting between the forces of the IG and the army list to get the full picture of a troop/character choice which is a common feature of the new style)

anyhoo it is what it is no sense bitchin' over it they arent about to republish it.

I've only looked at eldar and ork in the shop but both gave me the same general feeling.
Personally I dont like the use of some of the really old graphic picture that have been used over and over again. I'd like to see all new with each evolution of Dex.
