If you haven't already seen my plog I play a second army beyond marines. Yes, its true, my first love is the little swarming monstrosities of the tyranid race. Here's a little story I wrote about my particular Hive Fleet.

It was a world doomed to die a miserable death. Storm troopers from the cadian 897th regiment were all that was left of the human resistance on Arkus tertiary. Their faith shattered, their resolve folded, and their ammunition stocks running dry they had only two options, shoot them or die. The fleet had arrved completely out of the blue, vanguard organisms were ripping and slashing their way through hive cities before the troops could even pick up their weapons.

They came from everywhere at once, from above, below, behind, and in some cases from inside. They struck with lightning prescision at every vulnerable point, overwhelming the unprepared defenders with the infamous genestealer organisms, lictors, broodlords and even Hive Tyrants that had been evolved to accompany the tunneling ravenors. Then the actual fleet arrived.

The Genestealer infestation had been so thorough that the pockets where defenses were actually capable of being mounted were hammered with assault organisms and swiftly crushed under their cruel talons. This tactic was one that was almost unheard of among the tyarnid race. This hive fleet completely forgoed the trademark wall of gaunts for a preemptive bombardment of Canifexes, Warriors, Hive Tyrants and various Bio-Titans while defenders were still combatting genestealers and ravenors.

Arkus tertiary was gone within a month. However, the Tyranids did something completely out of character. Rather than moving on, they sent out their vanguard organisms once again, to seed the next target with the same fate as the last.

interesting...

Nids always seed target area with vanguard organisms anyway, and then steadily ramp up the assault over the next few hours/days...

Yes, tis true, but Hive Fleet Fenrir drops so many vanguard that they don't need the wall of gaunts. Its a lightning raid fleet, sort of a mutated, overevolved dark eldar tactic.
