Outfitting a Leman Russ, what do you slap on that puppy after you've installed the sound system, low profiles and racing stripes? . I'm set on a battle cannon and heavy bolter side sponsons. What I am in two minds on is do I go with a lasscannon or heavy bolter for my hull mounted weapon? I realize it is a horses for courses thing but in a general "take all comers" kinda way what represents the best firepower for points? I'm leaning towards heavy bolter as I see the tank mostly killing infantry but that lasscannon is tempting, especially with the rumours about the new IG codex doing the rounds - and i quote from BOLS
yea I know - we'll see... Cross your fingers. The other thing I was pondering - is it worth it adding a pintle mounted weapon? Then stormbolter or heavy stubber? On paper the stubber seems bloody useless and the stormbolter short on range taking into account the rest of the weapons on the tank, your thoughts? |

I'd maginitze your sponsons so you could remove them right now it's not worth it. Sense all defensive weapon are str 4 or less it screws the Russ. I'd really have to wait and see what rules they get before really making the call. |

If its a standard Russ, most people sit back and use the cannon and lascannon, whereas a conqueror, or exterminator can fire main armament with defensive armament, so I go full hog. Never dismiss stubbers, they cause mayhem with infantry, got me out of trouble in the past. |

I have quite a large number of friends who play guard, even though I don't play myself. But from what I've seen on the field(s) of battle is that having it magnetized or with replacable parts is the best way to go. In the end, it all boils down to what else you're taking in your army. If you have a lascannon battery then by all means take the heavy bolter. On the contrary, if your army has a lack of tankbusting/Fexblasting power as many guard armies are wont to do, take the lascannon. One last bit, TAKE THE HEAVY STUBBER!!!! It dosen't look like much on paper but there is a reason Baneblades have one, to punkshot those nasty little greater daemons that try to smash you. |
