I laughed pretty hard when I read this, then I looked it up and found out that you Brits refer to sleighs as sledges. Honestly when I first read that, it sounded more like you were going to kill your kids with a sledge hammer... with the very poor excuse of snow. We just call them sleighs or sleds. I love you Brits, freaking out over a sugar frosting. More of you should visit Canada and experience its unwholesome winters. ![]() Edit: Sorry if that last bit came off as insensitive. It's not my intention to make light of anyone getting hurt because of the weather. To be honest, usually during and after the first snowfall here half the population forgets how to drive. Nah its just the way it is in England Vee, a little dusting of snow and the country shuts down, takes more than that to stop things in Scotland. Woke up this morning to find it snowing again, and there was me thinking "crap that means training won't be on". Come this afternoon most of the snow is gone, its pretty much raining now and yet training is still cancelled, well gutted. |

Because we're real men! Who go hunting for haggis and deer in nothing but kilts! We have fine whiskey and stout women... ![]() Ahem. Yes, of course. Today, I've learned that if you stock pile snowballs for a good 10 minutes, sitting on top of an old railway bridge pelting neds is kinda fun ^^ |

Vee, i know what you mean. The difference with me is i'm a brit, and i wrote my car off 2 hours before snow started to fall over here. Though good old ICBC paid me 466 bucks more than i paid for the car in payout after deductible (thats excess to us brits) so cant really complain! |

So... Whereabouts in the Great Frozen North do you live? And I'd better not see you say Toronto, because compared to what we get here in Winnipeg, Toronto's like a tropical vacation... |

I spend most of my time with my family in Muskoka, close to Bracebridge/Huntsville. It ain't Toronto! :p I do have temporary residence in Orangeville, part of the Ontario snow-belt a few hours south, and from there I commute a few hours both ways to the University of Toronto for my classes. I lumped them together so I don't have to spend all week in the nastiness that is Toronto. - Vee Edit: My profile says Toronto because I was living there when this forum was started. I realized that I hate living in the city though. It's actually a different kind of damp/lake effect cold there. -10c there with wind eats you alive compared to -35c up here. The worst I've had here... well, I don't know, but we did get a lot of snow. Even though the thaw is upon us the snowbanks are still 9 feet high. Edited by Vee, 18 Feb 2009, 12:01 AM.

We haven't had a boatload of snow, which is generally pretty typical, but cold snaps like the one we had just before Christmas can nail us with -35 to -40 temperatures, plus a wind that makes it feel closer to -50. I have some family that live just on the south side of the lake in Niagara, so I hear all about their weather. Here on the prairies we mostly get cold windy conditions, while our snow comes from systems that move across the prairies from a band stretching Colorado to Alberta. But it's really the wind you've got to be careful about. And when it blows all the cloud cover away, it can get awfully cold in a hurry. Of course we do still get days like this.

Ditto for canada, but us brits seem to have developed the inability to think or act rationally once 2mm of snow has settled on the ground. Its bloody ridiculous.![]() This years snowfall ![]() Canada levels of snowfall, after a month of it melting away. Doesnt quite compare eh... Edited by Dave38x, 18 Dec 2009, 01:28 PM.
