Bah! Humbug I say! Wimpy Southerners the lot of you. You're not "snowed in" untill you literally cannot open the door. 5-6 ft of snow, and then, and only then does it start to be snow, and we still had to go to school, walk if the buses weren't going, and we got in trouble if we were late.

Bah

Hahahaha! That sounds like what I'm used to, being from New England.

wouldnt that be annoying though? making all that effort to get in only to be told "right, seems as its snowy, you can go home early" ?

Just outside Southampton here, so snow is much the same - walked in to work as I usually do, just about managed not to fall on my [arse]. Very slippery out there, but the whole paralysis of our country for what is 1-2 inches of snow that has been forecast fore the last 4 days is highly amusing.

Except that I work for one of those said insurance companies, guess it won't be a good year for bonuses. :D

Also amusing were 2 of our team who walk in normally refusing to do so until about 10-11am in order to let the snow melt a bit... wusses.

Tsss... We've got snow for months now :P But I'm happy for you, glad to see that there are other places out there that got snow this time of the year! It started snowing in mid november and then it's acctualy stayed on the ground since then, it usualy melts somewhere in between only to return to give us a white Christmas! It's quite strange, as it can be almost dry outside the day before christmas with no sign of snow, only to snow like hell during the night/morning and then it stays over the day... Makes me wonder if there is some divine being out there blessing us with a white Christmas every year!

And voiceofthewarp is right, our school has never been cancelled due to snow either! It's just naturel here... I remember when I tried to bike to get to work by bike/foot in 3foot snow with no ploughed roads! After taking one hour to get just 1-2 km I had to call work and tell them how it was, they weren't to happy with me that day :O

And well, not to brag to much... But here's a few pictures around my house and it's been looking like this for months:

Probably the best way off getting around the village without killing yourself by slipping!

No wonder you have the time to do so much painting mate - you can't go anywhere. I wish we could use the excuse of not getting into work. If we can't get to the station where we are based, we have to walk to the nearest one and work out of there. Or they send the 4x4 to pick you up. Not as if the police are essential is it?

There is a High Risk of a Severe Weather event affecting much of England and Wales on Monday. Periods of snow will continue to extend northwestwards through the day, with heavy falls likely in places. Although marked variations will occur from place to place, 5-10cm is likely in many areas with as much as 20-30cm possible, especially over higher ground. Drifting will occur in fresh to strong easterly winds. This could cause disruption to travel networks, especially across higher level routes.

This Early Warning will be superseded by Flash messages.

IIRC the quote is from Hill Street Blues.

Everyone in my dept. at work showed up... except the management. They promptly told us we could go home at 12:00.

Got a bit in Lancashire, but not spectacular amounts. Gritters seem to be doing their jobs for a change.

All the non-english bunkerites are laughing at us. The problem with the uk is that when it does snow enough to notice, we're so surprised that the entire nation's transport system shuts down while everyone tries to remember where the rock salt is (and/or how to drive on icy roads).

Now rain, rain we understand.

Pfft you English types, a bit of snow and the country shuts down. Trains, buses, planes in London, all cancelled. We have 2 inches or so in Edinburgh here and everything running fine.

I want more snow though. Cousin lives in Purley in Surrey and they have about a foot of snow there, maybe not quite, but a good 7 or 8" and thats in a town!

The delightful 1st years at Uni obviously had nothing better to do today than make this. And yes thats my 6' odd tall friend next to it. Sorry if this is inappropriate, but I mean its bloody funny.

But no we dont have polar bears in Finland ;) .
Oddly enough we get them occasionally in ICeland, despite them not being native as it were, in all of the cases the idiot farmers call the media before the police so they then become actual hazards because of all the bloody people and then have to be shot
