Hi, I wanna use an Forward Air Controller-type in my IG Army. I've statted him out like this: Proposed Rules for Naval Forward Air Controller: Pts: ???; WS 3; BS 3; S 3; T 3; W 1; I 3; A 1; Ld 9; Sv 5+ Numbers/Squad: 1. Weapons: Laspistol. Options: A Naval FAC may be given any equipment allowed from the Imperial Guard Armoury. In addition, the FAC may buy additional uses of his Air Support ability for [???] points per use. Transport: If the FAC is attached to a squad that has a transport, then the FAC may also travel in it. SPECIAL RULES Heavy Support: The Naval FAC takes up a Heavy Support slot. Independent Character: The Naval FAC is an independent character and follows all the rules for independent character in the Warhammer 40.000 rulebook. Air Support: Allows one use of Orbital Bombardment (as noted page 52 in the Space Marine codex) with a successful Leadership test (on a failed Leadership roll, the FAC can try again later). Note that even though additional uses can be bought, only one Leadership attempt may be used per round. I've been thinking about having him count as an HQ, and having each Air Support use take up an Heavy Support slot instead? I'd really need some feedback, especially some help with the pricing. Consider the 125pts SM Chapter Master, who is pretty much at least twice as good (statwise), and has a few other nifty special rules. What would you say 70 pts for the FAC, and 50 pts for each additional Air Support use? Thank you, Thomas Edited by Tema69, 13 Jan 2009, 06:09 PM.

Ok, my thoughts (some very minor) Make him 5+ save, can't see him going to war with anything other than the same armour as a grunt. Make him a 0-1 Elite choice. I don't know the stats for orbital bombardment (is it a bit like ordinance?) but 50 points seems a little high to me, maybe 40? Alternatively, make it so he can call in an air strike. Could be similiar to a demolisher shot, scatters as normal. Or, you could give the option of taking a laser sighter - allows him to place an air strike on any unit in line of sight if he hits. Just some of my thoughts. |

The lower points are fine, tho one shot per game is restrictive, what about using bombard rules, every 2nd turn he can bring firepower down? |

As for armour save, t'was a typo, I originally wrote 3+, and then 'corrected' it to 6+. Way to fail. I'll change it.0-1 Elite, ey? Hmm... But it's kinda Heavy Support'y too, isn't it? I was thinking Str 10 AP 1, Ordnance, Barrage...? I always over-price my homemade stuff at first, just to be on the safe side. But I'm glad to hear you'd lower it. ![]() I really like the laser sight idea... Hmm... Gonna have to read up on them and the Tau Markerlights. As for 1 shot/game, he has the option of buying more shots. |

While thinking about this, I realized that IRL, FACs don't call in a single big missile/rocket/etc..., as the guidance systems on those normally are sophisticated enough - instead, they normally call in an air strike consisting of multiple smaller attacks (rockets, machinegun strafes, etc...). Food for thought, too complicated, or not 40k'y enough? |

Sorry for the triple post. I was thinking about Laser Designators and such. Would range be unlimited, or 48+? Whatdyouthink? Also, should it count as a Heavy Weapon, so he has to spend the entire turn pointing the damn thing? Restrictions like that should lower the cost considerably too, and whiny opposing players might whine less... |

Ta da! These rules came outta my homebrew drop troop army list, which is even more elite and drop troopy than the Elysian list! Forward Air Control Team (70 pts) Squad: 3 Guardsmen Weapons: Laspistols. One guardsman has a vox caster and one has a personal computer. Doctrines: The FAC team only pays half price (rounding up) for all doctrines. Special Rules Coordinated support: As long as the guardsman with the vox caster is alive, the reserve dice roll for one vulture, lightning, lightning strike, thunderbolt or any other combat aircraft, or one single squad in a valkyrie, arvus or any other dedicated transport with the flier rule may be re-rolled. Air superiority: At the beginning of each Imperial Guard turn, the FAC team may attempt to call an air strike onto a specific location or target. The team must make a leadership test (this can be modified by an officer’s leadership as normal). If the test is failed, no air strike is called down. If it is passed, then a randomly determined air strike is called down. Roll on the table below to determine the nature of the air strike. D6 Result Weapons 1 Lightning Twin lascannon and autocannon 2 Lightning Strike 4 hellstrikes 3 Thunderbolt Twin lascannon and 2 twin autocannons 4 Anti infantry Vulture Heavy bolter, twin multilaser and 2 rocket pods 5 Anti tank Vulture Heavy bolter, twin lascannon and 2 hunter killers 6 Marauder 4 Heavy bombs The air strike is determined at the start of the turn, before movement, but is resolved in the shooting phase. The target for the air strike must be within 12” of a unit with a vox caster, but can be any valid shooting target (including bunkers or other aircraft). Because the pilots must simply fly in, unleash their weapons, and fly out (without time to aim correctly) the shooting is resolved with BS2, unless the target is within 12” of the FAC team in which case it is resolved using BS3. Not had a chance to try them out myself, but feel free to suck it and see mate. Dave out. |

Those are some great rules. I might modify them a lil' bit, preferring to have a single fleetman with the gear, instead of several (WW2 FACs operated 'alone' among infantry and tanks). That way, I get to include him in my planned WIP Navy Stormtroopers. ![]() Would you mind posting/emailing/PMing that army list of yours? |

Certainly mate, it be here. Feel free to modify the setup ofthe unit, but I went for multiple guys to get unit that might actually survive the game (which I'm sure they won't once the opponent figures out what is going on). Another alternative would be to make it a 55 points upgrade for the command HQ, but that would give you two models with vox casters in the one unit, and muchos confusion! Enjoy the list mate. Dave out. |

Just read your rules there (meh, I'm at school), they look great! You use the term SAW, how have you statted that in 40k terms? |

Ah yes, I forgot to add a weapon chart thingy into it, didn't I. And statlines. . . A SAW, or squad assault weapon, is genreally a rapid firing version of the standard infantry weapon. So, in this list, a SAW is a range 24" assault 2 lasgun (kinda like a baby storm bolter). That clear things up a little. Glad you like the rules, I've only used the list once on a small scale, but I'm hoping for a bigger game soon. Dave out. |

Well, the only thing I can see that hasn't got a statline yet is the predators drones. I'd probably just give them the standard guardsman statline, but with BS2 rather than 3 and a 4+ save. Dave out. |

And the recon UAV would be too far up to be targetted/needing stats, right? |

Oh, and, forgot to ask, Lascarbines, how have you statted those? Range 18, Assault 2 (that's how I've seen 'em statted before)? |

Assault 1, like the pulse carbine. Assault 2 woulda been too over the top mate. And you're right on the recon UAV, it'd be too high and too small to be a viable target. Dave out. |
