For those of those who like the work of the Black Library, there is a host of new titles listed for next year. Of interest to those 40k fans is a new short stories book Heroes of the Space Marines and the next installment of the Horus Heresy after Mechanicus and the short story book, entitled Fallen Angels, with snazzy cover art to boot

Fallen Angels

That better be a better job than Descent of angels which was without a doubt the worst in the series. why oh why is it not the likes of Abnet and Mc neil writing the DA stuff.

Who is Mike Lee? not someone I am familiar with

you missed this

I snuck it in the original as the short story book after Mechanicus, does look good. Sandy Mitchell has done excellent things with Ciaphas Cain, so should be good. Havent read scourge the heretic yet though, recommended?

I've just finished reading Gaunt's* Ghosts the founding, couldn't put it down!
Necropolis is an awesome book. It "made" me go out and buy 9 tanks, because surely an AC will work just like the one in the book....

No. But I still have a load of cool tanks... :P

*Learn to spell Jase... :P

by the time i get Elfslayer and the books im ordering from the library (since im still at school requests are free, and the guy who drives the mobile library has told me to basically scrap the limit of order a max of 6 books at a time, partially because he's a Geordie as well :D) i should be in a position to get any new books released by the black library and be able to pick them up straight away.
the Ghosts books ive read are the first omnibus and the last 4. couldnt get the ones in between as the library couldnt get hold of any.

Apparently he's co-wrote the Malus Darkblade series with Dan abnett. I would assume from that that he has a similar style of writing. He's also done... Bloodstorm, The Daemons Curse, Lord of Ruin, Malus Darkblade, The chronicles of : Vol 1 , Nagash the Sorcerer, Reaper of Souls, Warpsword.

I have read the founding and the saint, got traitor general a week ago and finished it, bought his last command yesterday and have 8chapters left, awsome books!! Makes me want a tainth army and bloodpact army!

But getting annoyed at reading them so dam quick!

Looking forward to mechanicus should be very good and fallen angels better make up for the crap that was descent of angels.

Still stand by the fact that the eishenhorn books are the best books ever produced by BL though!

Descent of angels was a real letdown, should've been someone like abnett doing it. guess at least it gave some insight to the feudal beginnings of the DA. scanlon redeemed himself with fifteen hours anyway imho. i quite liked it. putting off buying a gaunt's ghosts omnibus cause i'm sure it'll distract me from study too much.

Well his last command lasted all of two days . . . . . dam.

Good though! ITs getting interesting in the tainth first.

The Gaunts Ghosts books are superb, I have read all of them and re-read through the founding and saint arcs. Can also recommend the Eisenhorn trilogy, especially malleus. Titanicus is very good, just over halfway.

People reckon Descent of Angels was worse than the abysmal Battle for the Abyss? Ben Counter can write ok battle scenes, but is horrifyingly poor at characterisation and plot...

I'm another one re-reading the Ghosts books. I'm about halfway through the Founding omnibus at the mo.

Gotta get me at least one of these: http://www.blacklibrary.co.uk/product.asp?prod=99160181011&type=Merchandise

in my opinion Gaunts Ghosts get a lot better from Traitor General onwards, there is real writing in there and more then the first books, there is actual narrative in the fighting and more and more people get killed (prepare yourselves), and considering that they are members of the Imperial Guard it's about damn time when you read through the books.

15 Hours was not very good, but the ultimate worst things ever put out by the Black Library by far are the Dawn of War novels by C.S. Goto. Come on, a Space Marine and an Eldar Farseer falling in love? and my favourite quote of all time from that series is:
"If Eldar even have Kidney's"

Really enjoying the Horus Heresy series (ven if as everyone has said Descent of Angels was crap), but my favourite at the minute has been the Third Grey Knights Novel, Alaric has to fight in the Chaos Arena after he is captured, pure awesomeness!

just my thoughts on the BL.

The heresy books have been mixed, though I read them for the background rather than the thrill of reading them. Id agree about Battle for the Abyss, and felt that Descent was far more of a stepping stone for the next book than a proper story in itself. I must continue to tout Titanicus, small amount left and just getting into the twisting latter stages that Mr Abnett likes so much.

The latter ghost books do have a different twist to them than the earlier ones, in the same way that First and Only differs from any of the rest. I like the idea of Traitor General, always makes me want to build a Guard kill team. Only in Death was a little strange at first but rose to a thundering conclusion.

The Grey Knights books are ok, but they seem to suspend the other ideas of reality of 40k somewhat- captured Grey Knights, the sheer amount of them that they kill off in each book. Thought 15 hours was pretty good, very gritty and quite interesting.

On other books, the Slayer books for fantasy are very good, and nice to see more coming still. The space Wolf series was good, especially the original 3. If you ever get your hands on an old copy of Space Marine by Ian Watson it is well worth a read, completly out of synch with the canon material now, but very interesting- old school nids, scouts taking over a titan, squats.

Yeah i had noticed in the Gaunt books more and more people are dying but i think its a sign of a good seires that when certain people die im generally happy or saddened by the fact . . .
