Well, i face a 1500pt game on thurs against my mates eldar. He has no fire prisms and has decided to go for CC as i beat him at the range game (more or less). To my mind this suggests a relatively mobile force.

Help, suggestions etc?

The only ironed out sections of the list are:

3 Firestorm XV8s (Missile pod and burst cannon with multitracker)

4 pathfinders in a Dfish

and probably a railhead.

I must sound like a noob, but help please!

He'll probably go mechanised, or jetbikes.
Or, if he loves his aspect warriors, he may even footslog.

I recommend 3 railheads with burst cannons, target lock, multitracketrs and disruptions pods (always take disruption pods)

Take 3 lots of 6 stealth suits to murder his troops (and drown Avatars/wraithlords with sheer weight of fire)

Then take a commander, 2 bodyguards with plasma/missile combo. 2 shield drones

oh...and 2 6-man fire warriors teams with markerlights to light up the essentials.

I take it you just want to KILL KILL KILL! Objectives are second priority?

i would make one an ion cannon, as it gives more shots to take out pesky nigh invincible eldar grav tanks. also good for killing big nasties, for much less points

again, what he said

i would actually go a little heavier of the fire warriors, pulse rifles are nasty.
oh, and add some rail rifles to the pathfinders. eldar are only T3, so thats the killing on 2s due to instand death thingy unless that changed as well under 5th.

Yeah, but he won't have the points for more troops...unless he drops some of the good stuff.

I don't think a S6 ion cannon will do much against armour 12 skimmers.
Go railguns for the submunition shot.
It's S6 AP4 Large Blast, which will make him regret disembarking those aspect warriors! B)

ohohohokaaay....

My thoughts were big up the stealthsuits as well, however there are a few flaws in this lovely plan.

I have one railhead and thats it.

I have 6 stealthsuits and thats it.

I was considering fielding 2 remora drones (fw aircraft)- they are quite powerful, have normally broken units before and are very good in an anti vehicle role (think seeker missiles onto rear armour) However at 220 points for a pair of them thats rather expensive.

And as far as suits go i play firestorm not fireknife, the reasons for which are here:
Tactica: Firestorm

And it has worked against non MEQ infantry very well before.

At the moment, i have a very restricted list...

no real need for a batrep, i got raped by turn 3.

His dire avengers (4 squads of them, his only infantry) rushed forward in their waveserpents and then hopped out. They then opened fire with bladestorm, while the waveserpents opened up with missile launchers, wiping out my pathfinders and pinning two of my squads of fire warriors (the two with rifles).

My first turn (with my plan in tatters) saw me engage his wraithlord, inflicting 2 wounds on it. The second wraithlord was not engaged.

Heavy fire (from what could) saw 3 quarters of one squad of dire avengers slaughtered and another casualty from another squad.

Turn 2, the vicious shooting continues, i am left with 2 scoring troops choices. Close combat is reached, and my tau bash the puny eldar several times!! (there were only 4 of them *cough* versus 4 tau)

Turn 3, with only one scoring unit left and that being engaged by 2 wraithlords in close combat, i resigned as the game was lost.

Personally, looking back i would have placed troops inside transports turn one to minimize the resulting destruction. 2 more hammerheads would have been loved for the ability to remove scores of eldar on a roll of a 2+

Remora was a complete waist of time... didnt show up at all.

Pathfinders should probably be right at the back of the army too...

oh, and dice rolls that obeyed the law of averages would have been nice. i mean, come on, i roll so badly most of the time i must be in for a game with nothing but straight sixes!

good effort, its a pain when your plans dont get started, let alone finished.
my mates hate using my dice, as apparently they are weighted (i roll 5s +6s, they roll 1s and 3s). i just think its my dice making up for the way i lost to them by 8,500 VPs in a 5k each Warhammer game

Threadromancy and all, but ive had two 500 point engagements against him since then, both of which i have wone devastatingly.

Think i more or less mastered how to thrash eldar at 500 points. its just he goes from that in the 500 points between 500 and 1000 point matches he finds room for two wraithlords and 4 waveserpents with missilelaunchers. How? oh, and a squad of dire avengers
