Evening Bunker! You might of seen my sneak peak on the Project Log forums with my Chosen Space Marines. if you read further down you'd know I'm kind of stuck on the paint scheme. Well, I decided to build a "Fallen" army- the traitors form the Dark Angels. Now that I have my paint scheme figured out (although have not painted yet), as well as a basic background to them such as salvaging spare parts and customizing vehicles to better fit the terrain (sneak peak of my bikes forth coming. Hint: huge wheels) I pretty much know what i want my army to look like. (Just don't know if it will accurate. hehe). But I have now hit a second wall: what Codex to follow? I know that fluff for the Fallen is covered in the Dark Angles codex, and that it's EXTREMELY rare to find one marine, let alone a whole "1500" pt army in one spot. According to the Wiki for Warhammer, there's alot of clandestine motives for the Fallen, especially Cypher. I intend to go the path of The Fallen that has a more "Emperor-friendly" approach. That means no Daemon Prince, no nutty warmachines (Defiler) and definately no daemons at all. But it leaves me with some Warping to justify my use of Chaos bitz. But all this leaves me with one burning question: Do I use the Chaos Codez for my army rules, points-cost, and organization, or do I use the SM Codex since inherently my Fallen will not be totally chaotic? Thanks for any help! Rockhound P.S. I tried to use the search function for this site, but I kept getting errors. Does anyone have any links to what The Fallen might look like, besides having the same color arrangment as DA (other than what is listed in the Chaos Codex)? i would use the chaos dex or the DA dex, depending on what mood your in. my Soul Drinkers are currently used under chaos, DA and BA rules, and soon to be new Smurf rules. im pretty sure that fallen are black armour with Bone robes (theres some on the GW website (in a scenario in the DA section i think) |

Thanks for the reply brambleten! It's good to know I can switch between different codex. I was thinking of using Chaos rules when fighting any Imperial armies (SM, Sisters, Inq, etc.) as well as Tau and Eldar as they are predominately not evil. And Use SM rules when fighting Orks, necron, Dark Eldar, Tyranids since they are primarely evil. I have no idea how that would work in a tournament. I imagine not at all possible since you're changing rules as opposed to changing army make-up. But in friendly games it seems like it could work. I know whenever I face Dark Angel armies they'll be getting TONS of points from me. lol I also found the correct color scheme to use: Green armor, black robes and shoulders, silver trim. (Chaos SM Codex). It is alot different than how they are portrayed in the scenario you were discussing. But I appreciate your help. I didn't even know of that scenario till you said something. Looks like some DA armies get something to look forward to when I get ready to play. EDIT: My 1500 pt army list. I tried to make it as generic as possible so I could switch between SM and CSM rules, but I still have a LONG way to go. HQ (260) Chaos Lord (term armor, power wpn, twinlink bolter) Chaos Sorceror (Term armor, force wpn, Warptime)----- He is the main reason for my Fallen fluff I'm coming up with. ELITE (480) 5 Chosen Space marines (4 twinlink bolter, 5 meltabombs, Rhino- extra armor) Dreadnought (2 CC wpns)---- Need to find a way to make this work for diff sets of rules 5 Terminators (5 pair lightening claws) TROOP (370) 10 Chaos Space Marines (Rhino) 10 Chaos Space Marines (Rhino) HEAVY SUPPORT Land Raider (Extra armor) FAST ATTACK 4 Chaos Space Marine Bikers (2 meltaguns) TOTAL: 1497 pts Edited by Rockhound, 22 Sep 2008, 01:54 AM.

For actual Fallen fluff that follows the canon universe, please read the Warhammer 40K wiki on the Fallen. The fluff presented here fills in holes with my interpretations and not canon facts. For purposes of this army build-up and for campaign reports, the following is my interpretation of Cypher’s events that will lead him to Terra. While returning to Terra, Cypher follows reports given to him by the Watchers of the Dark that allow him to find Fallen marines. Slowly, he has been searching and building his Fallen Dark Angel army to escort him back to Terra and redeem themselves for their Heresy transgressions. Two such Fallen Marines Cypher had found were Librarian Duncan and Terminator Captain McGregor. Librarian Duncan was cast deep into the Warp, chaos continually bombarding his soul with promises of immortality and wealth. Duncan has successfully fought back, but at a cost. In order for him to beat the constantly swarm of chaos marines and beasts for over 300 years, he had adapted to their style of warfare by blending in, adopting chaos rituals, and losing his own psychic powers for chaos power. His shame of following Luther is unequalled and will seek repentance at any cost, and that has been his fuel for staying alive for so long. Finally fighting his way out of the Warp, Cypher found him and told of redemption at the foot of the Emperor. Librarian Duncan agreed and became known as Sorcerer Duncan to hide his identity. Terminator McGregor at the time was a sergeant with Librarian Ezekiel’s terminator squad. When the 30 terminators went to secure their recruitment world, only Ezekiel survived… we thought. When the rest of the Dark Angel force arrived, only 29 bodies were accounted for. The remaining terminator was thought to have been so totally obliterated by genestealers that he was written off as deceased. The eye-witness account of Ezekiel of the remaining terminator was this, “I saw at least 50 of those dirty bastards surround McGregor and drag him into a catacomb deep behind the lines. We fought through thousands of them to get to the cave but all we saw was blood, dead ‘stealers, and a dead-end.” Truth is, the Watchers of the Dark had their eyes on McGregor after his valiant battles as a foot soldier. The Watchers had controlled the minds of the genestealers that had dragged McGregor away. Their main purpose was to assist Cypher with gathering the remaining Fallen and lead them back to Terra. Duncan and McGregor now lead the newly gathered Fallen. There has only been one report of the Dark Angels physically witnessing the Fallen in action. A Dark Angel battalion was under heavy attack by Tyranids on a planet in the Eastern Fringe. The Tyranids were clearly wiping out the remaining Dark Angels when Thunderhawks in heretical, yet unclear markings descended in force and wiped out the Tyranids. Only a few Dark Angels survived. Commander Duncan and Sorcerer McGregor approached one of the marines and handed him a small bag. The Fallen had dispatched medics to tend to the DA while Duncan knelt down and spoke to the marine.“Tell brother Asmodai this bag is for him, and only him. We have accepted our fate as Fallen, and will redeem and repent ourselves on our terms. We will be held accountable for our actions, but not until our mission is over. NOT… UNTIL… THEN!” Within an instant, the Fallen had returned to space and warped out of the system. The lone marine was confused, as he was not privy to this kind of knowledge. Upon hearing of the marine’s tale, Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai was handed the bag from McGregor. He opened it and emptied its contents onto a table in front of Master Azrael, Librarian Ezekiel, and Commanders Belial and Sammael. Out poured hundreds of black pearls. The ultimate goals of the Fallen is escort Cypher to Holy terra, to seek repentance at the foot of the Emperor, and have Cypher release him to fulfill the Star Child prophecy for Mankind to flourish. The Fallen will do anything, ANYTHING, to fulfill these goals including fighting through loyalist brother Space Marines, Chaos, xenos, and/or obliterating the Inquistion (A special, deep-seeded hatred is reserved for them for letting the Emperor suffer for millennia and not fulfilling his “destiny.”) The Fallen have adopted a chaotic approach to warfare using fear and sheer ruthlessness in combat. They have also changed their appearance considerably from their pre-heresy days of black armor and white robes to match a chaotic version of Dark Angels. They have painted their trim silver to represent the fading light of the Emperor, their robes are black to represent their shame, and their weapons are red to represent the blood they must shed to atone for their sins. Despite using Chaos as a means to an end, The Fallen refuse to use daemons or demonic rituals in their army. Sorcerer Duncan has suffered for too long to get out of the Warp to allow such practices. They see dameons as “what we could have been” and will prevent anyone from pledging their soul to daemons. And as such, Defilers, daemon weapons, marines pledged to the gods, Daemon Lords, dreadnoughts (unless the Fallen dread has proven to have kept some sanity), and Obliterators will never appear in a Fallen army. The Fallen will occasionally assist Chaos armies if they feel it would be beneficial to their cause, such as sacking a xeno planet, fighting the Inquisition, or tearing the Chaos army apart from the inside out. The Watchers of the Dark have gone to great lengths, through Cypher, at disguising each member’s identity. However, the Inner Circle of the Dark Angels can clearly see through this disguise. They have a pure, unadulterated hatred for the Inquisition and Imperial Guard. The Fallen believe that the Inquisition are intentionally preventing the Emperor from fulfilling the Star Child Prophecy because they would lose so much power and influence if a new Emperor was to arise. By keeping the Emperor in his current state, the Inquisition has waged a war purely for ego, power, and selfishness. The Imperial Guard have been a constant thorn in The Fallen’s side. Their sheer numbers of personnel and armor have kept the Fallen away from vital resupply routes and planets and have caused them to turn into scavengers, much like orcs. Their vehicles are maintained through parts recovered during battle. Only every so often, the Fallen are given strange commlink messages telling them about a secure place to pick up fresh supplies. Currently, The Fallen has been en route to Ammoriss. Their reason? …unknown. Edited by Rockhound, 29 Sep 2008, 06:16 PM.
