Right, first, lets see...in my X-Mini's painting log (i know, i know, i'm going to update it...eventually) i stated that i was going to paint some Iron Snakes, these would mainly be a display force with the odd game, so i could really go to town on them. Problem is that I also have 1k of Grey Knights in the works, and painting all that silver armour does not appeal. I really like the look of the Ultramarines, the whole Romanesque/Greek thing going on (kinda why i like the Snakes, the greek thing! ), anyway.Looking over the parts that i have, I was planning on building the Snakes from the Dark Angels codex. Do you guys think that with enough fluff i could get away with using the DA codex over the Vanilla Codex, ins pite of their update in two months time. I was going to br that the marines have been exiled on a penitent crusade ala Black Templars, and they have been crusading for the past so many hundred years that only a small force of the exiles are left, due to this whittling down of numbers they have had to adapt and change their organisation from the Codex Astartes. This is where the Dark Angels codex comes in cause you can mix assault and normal termies in the same squad, you can split stuff into combat squads, etc, etc.. Do you guys think that this idea, with some expanding, could justify a force of Ultramarines, who are known for sticking RIGIDLY to the Codex Astartes, to change their organisation nd fight differently to the rest of their bretheren in the chapter? - wednesday |

from what i had gathered from the new dex was that it covered all marines, therefore making the DA codex out of date and unusable. (this was till i read about the new space wolf codex on here) if the new codex doesnt cancel the old ones, then i dont see why you cant have ultramarine blue Dark Angels |

Sorry brambleton but the DA, BA, BT and SW dexes still count, least until the BA and SW ones get re-done. However, there's no reason you can't make a UM force using the DA list, AS LONG AS you make it clear to your opponant from the start. |

Wait until the new Codex comes out. It makes no sense to play non-Codex Ultramarines. That's like playing Black Templar with Space Wolves rules. |
