Lukas - Any thoughts on how to build robo-scorps? :)

EE - Hah yeah! I'm in a neighbourhood that's a bit like that at the moment...

Just a little update:

Posted Image

Stuck this guy to a base and cleaned up some moldlines, then based him up. He's next on the painting block for a few reasons...

a) I wanted a break from terrain building (as much as I love that!).
b) I haven't painted in ages and just got a couple of new paints/waterpots/palettes.
c) I just got a new Humbrol spray colour (Dark Brown, although it's not really dark...) that I wanted to try out.
d) I wanted a painted "size comparison" figure to model my terrain pieces!

Posted Image

Fairly simple base, a little jerrycan from who knows where, suitably beaten up...

I got the figure a while back from one of Molotov's eBay auctions - I love Kal Jerico and Scabbs! Planning on painting him up as an escaped convict stuck out in the middle of the wasteland though...
Posted Image

And the general scheme I'm going for...

The shackles help with the escaped convict look :)

No love for Scabbs? Poor guy.

Bit late to be updating, as I start work at 8:15am tomorrow (3 days in, 3 days off, 12hr shifts - I actually love the shift pattern!) but thought I'd show what I got done over the past 3 days off...

Posted Image

I managed to get this batch of miniatures finished - some needed little bits fixing, some are from undercoat. I'll take individual pictures over the next few days. There's Scabbs (now a Wastelander), a halfling thief, a zombie killin' granny, 3 Nazi zombie bombs and a not-Serenity ship. Anyone have tips on painting an interesting base for the ship? I'm not really happy with it...

Posted Image

I based up this bunch today. It's an eclectic mix - I'd realised whilst looking for something interesting that was undercoated and ready to paint that I'd pretty much run out...

I want to play some Rogue Trader-ish post-apoc frontier world-type games soon - I thought that some alien mercenaries/pirates would be a) nice to paint b) a nice faction game-wise and c) I bought some nice "classic-looking" figures at the end of last year that I was itching to paint (and promptly forgot about). So I dug them out, as well as a bunch of misc Star Wars pre-paints, a couple of random figures from Ground Zero Games and some Horrorclix pre-paints. Some needed rebasing, others just needed a bit more sand/gravel and they were good to go. I've taken 6 dog soldiers and an arak (the almost-ogre alien thing at the front) and spray undercoated them with the Humbrol "Dark Brown" spray.

Posted Image

I also undercoated this guy - one of the Horrorclix pre-paints. I love the lanky-ness and generally weird feel he has...

Garry - TY mate, really like it, will take no time at all to paint up!

Dave - Cheers!

Lukas - Hrm, I'll think on it!

Posted Image

I'm on the third of my 3-days-off - I've managed to get a little bit of basecoating done (as well as The Avengers with amazing nachos yesterday!) - these are 6 Ar-Men and an Aruk (from the Cobalt-5 from Black Hat Miniatures), a pair of cowboys (more an in-game objective for the post-apoc stuff) and the mummy. I touched up the sprayed basecoat (the not-Khemri Brown from Humbrol) and blocked out the weapons/armour plates/kit. I love the Cobalt-5 figures - sculpted a few years ago by Bob Naismith, they have a massively Rogue Trader/early 40k feel. I'll be using them as hired mercenaries in the post-apoc sci-fi setting.

Posted Image

Also assembled this Thrullg from Hordes - I'll be using it as a random event or beast hunt in the post-apoc. It could also be handy as a beast for post-apoc or fantasy gladiators to take on, or as a Clawed Fiend in my Dark Eldar. Loved the figure - the bony spine in particular!

More freshly assembled up-and-coming stuff...

The Justice Department - Judge Dredd, 2 more Judges, a Tek, a Med and an eager Cadet Judge! My mate loves 2000ad as much as me, looking forward to getting these on the board! I saw the Judge Dredd game mentioned on a blog on Sunday night, ordered a few miniatures on Monday morning, they arrived Tuesday! Brilliant service from Mongoose Publishing.

Posted Image

I bought a blister of the older figures from Arcane Miniatures in the clearance section a couple of years ago (with a Med, Tek and Psi-Judge) but they were a bit dodgy - slight miscasts if I'm honest. I decided to junk the Psi-Judge (she had no chin and missing fingers), the Tek wasn't bad but the Med above needed his feet snipping and resculpting, as I've done above. Brown stuff for the win!

Posted Image

The Cadet is probably my favourite out of all of them - so eager!

Painting in progress - the new Agrax Earthshade left them with a bit of a shine, so I used some spray Dullcote. They're nearly finished - with a few highlights here and there, plus the bases, they'll be done!
(Also - the picture was a quick iPhone pic!)

Where are they from and how tall are they compared to gw minis?
Could become some very cool arbitrators. :)

Garry - I only got these last Tuesday! Well, the three normal Judges and Cadet :)

Gerner - they're from Mongoose Publishing, they do a (free download) Necromunda-ish skirmish game in the Judge Dredd/Mega City 1 universe. They scale nicely with 40k stuff - they're 28mm heroic.

These are so cool. I think I've got a box somewhere with a load of old 2000AD comics, should be a couple of hundred of them . . .
Just had a rummage and found a mini of Johnny Alpha, he's a bit smaller than a GW mini, never been painted.

Nice Ash - get him painted up! Foundry still do various Strontium Dog, Judge Dredd and general 2000AD figures - I wish the postage wasn't so shocking, otherside I'd pick some up! These ones are from Mongoose Games :)

My Justice Department Response Team is done!

Here's Judge Dredd.

Posted Image

Judge Woodward.

Posted Image

Judge Newcombe.

Posted Image

Tek-Judge Ashford.

Posted Image

Med-Judge Len.

Posted Image

And finally, the eager Cadet-Judge Aspen.

Comments most welcome! These will be thrown against my post-apoc raiders and scavengers, as well as various Necromunda gangs (Orlocks and Eschers). They'll be fighting in the Cursed Earth or on a frontier world. Pretty happy with them! I received them last Tuesday (after ordering on Monday morning) so this is a very good turnaround for me!

I'm now working on the shanty terrain I built a few weeks back - I want to get them and my terrain mat pretty much done on my next rotation off!

I like them. Looking rather nice man.

Quick question. Are you gonna buy some of the Vyr-men models from mantic for your post-apoc stuff? They have a post-apoc look to them and I think they could fit.

You've done a cracking job on these blokes, really brings back some memories.
Back in prehistoric times, when i was a kid, I had a mate who always bought two of every issue of things like 200AD, Starlord etc. One to read, the other went into an A4 plastic bag, never to be touched again. We all thought he was daft at the time, but I bet he's had the last laugh . .

I have to say I really love the final effect Dullcote gives models. Really think that it can bring a paintjob together. The Judge team look really good mate, and nice and dulled as well, which is good.

Great work all round on the various post apoc stuff (I don't pretend for a minute to understand of that, but they look cool!), Judges and terrain.
