Hi all on Ammo Bunker. This is just an idea that we were chewing over at my gaming group. There is already a Kroot Mercenary Army List but not a generic mercenary force list. The bulk of the force would be human but with room for the Kroot, Ogryns and Loaxtl. We wre thinking of pillaging Imperial Armour 4 withthe Elysian Veterans, Codex Imperial Guard and Imperial Armour 5 for various other bits and pieces. So far we have: HQ Mercenary Leader (obviously) and Mercenary Lieutenant (both with Command Squads) Rogue/Unsanctioned Psyker Techno-Heretic (essentially an Enginseer) ELITES Kroot Mercenary Squad (0-1 choice) Ogryn Brute Squad (0-1 choice) Loaxtl Brood (0-1 choice) None of the above can be combined Mercenary Special Weapons Squad TROOPS Mercenary Squad FAST ATTACK Mercenary Walker HEAVY Mercenary Tank As I say it is a work in progress so any comments & criticisms are welcome. I like the idea of being able to use miniatures like those from Iron Pig to create unque looking units. There plenty of 1:48 scale armour kits that can be used, plenty of robotic walkers taht can be used as sentinels.... Once we have a working list I will post it here. |

HQ Seems fine to me, although add in an Eldar Pirate captain.... I'd also add in a paymaster as some kind of uber-ethreal. You could even make him a rogue trader... ELITE Rangers here. Also remove the combined limit - there mercenaries, they fight for pay ![]() I'd also add a body guard unit of tough buggers... possibly for combining with the paymaster TROOPS Have the HQ give you different options, so, if you take a pirate captain, add dark eldar warriors, if you add the techno heretic, add some bionic altered troopers FAST ATTACK Change it to a rough rider option - walkers arent that easy to make/maintain so... dune buggies? Rough riders? I wouldnt be adverse to seeing some ambushers that had to perhaps deep strike but had to do it on terrain (like, there totally hidden and thats where they pop out of) HEAVYS Aye, this is fine. Perhaps heavy weapons teams? |

Asmodai, thanks for the reply. Lots of food for thought there. I had completely forgotten about using the Eldar as mercenaries. Yes I think Heavy Weapon Teams will definately be added to the list as well as Sniper Teams to the Elites section. Plus there is also the option of using flyers both as FAst Attack and Heavies (I'm thinking of the Mercs that attack Eisenhorn in Malleus). They will count as Valkyries and Vultures but will need to be kit bashed from 1:48 scale copters (like the Hind). We aim for the list to be used in one of two ways. Either as a stand alone list allowing players to field merc forces that might be employed by a planetary governor or rogue trader or to allow us to put together unique one-off forces for small games that are mainly narrative driven. The conversion opportunities alone are mouth watering.... |

I've got copies of the old RT mercenaries lists that I can forward to you if you might like them. There's orks, human pirates and renegades and of course, the Eldar pirates. It shouldn't be too difficult to do something modern with them. |

Is that from the Book of the Astronomican? I remember that list very well. If you could forward anything it would most appreciated. We are nearly there on the HQ. So far we have:HQ Mercenary Captain (uses Guard Senior Officer stat line) Mercenary Paymaster (probably using the stats from a Priest - but of course money is the motivation not faith!) Techno-Heretic (Uses an Enginseers' stat line. Allows players to field bio-mechanically modified troops) Eldar Pirate Captain (uses Autarch profile and will allow Eldar Guardians to be taken as troop types and Rangers as Elites - I was going to use Dark Eldar but I don't even think money would stop them from attacking the Eldar Rangers!) Unsanctioned/Rogue Psyker The Mercenary Captain, Paymaster and Psyker can be accompanied by a Command Squad. The Techno-Heretic will have Servitors, the Eldar Pirate captain will have Eldar Guardian Squads as troops and Rangers as Elites. The Guardians actually represent Eldar who have strayed from the path and find themselves in exile from their Craftworld. The wearpons and wargear lists are going to be a real b*st*rd though... It's taken a couple of days but I have a draft copy of the Mercenary Army List. Just contains human types and the Loaxtl at the moment - I will be adding the Eldar and Kroot next week. No points costs just yet either . I will be putting these together this weekend. But it will give you a good idea of the kind of thing I am aiming for. I think it gives the players a chance to create a very peronalised force with the chance to convert lots of figures and get the most out of the GW plastic kits as well using parts from Iron Pig, West Wind, FW, Warzone, 1:48 sclae aircraft/tank kits etc. Any comments and criticisms welcome.
