Ever wanted a few wrecked civilian vehicles around your battlefield or thought a scrap yard would look good in amongst your other buildings? I did and then I came across this article on http://www.terragenesis.co.uk/.

First take a regular toy car of approximately the right scale and caver in tin foil. Then carefully remove the foil like so:

Take the foil and nestle it amongst some sand to give it a bit of extra support

And then take some plaster of paris, mix it up and cast that sucker! Leave to properly dry (really properly dry) and remove the foil. You should be left with something like this

As the foil naturally will crumple a bit and fold during the earlier steps your vehicle looks appropriately mashed. Now use any appropriate sculpting tool to clean it up and add detail should you wish. I then sprayed it with clear lacquer just to make the plaster a bit more durable and then you paint those puppies up.

These were a trial run just to see how it went, as soon as I have more done a scrap yard is definitely going to be on the boards for my table. C & C as always welcome.

Oh, Ross will love these, so simple but comes out brilliantly, wonder if the Foil has the strength to do tanks?

You know me all too well :D

I'd been eyeing off this idea for some time now, though I'd found it on some guys website early last year. I just never had the courage to test it out :$

Severian yours have turned out brilliantly!! I love the beaten up colours you've used, and the painted glass in simple fantastic!!
Bring on the auto wreckers yard mate!

Thanks for the Possitive feedback. I must confess that this project has had surprizingly pleasing results for very little effort (always a good thing as far as I am concerned) and as soon as the appropriate number of wrecks are available "the yard" will be coming online to a table near me B)

Holy funk, I used to make tin foil molds of my cars when I played with my monster trucks.

This is brilliant, I've been wanting some Gears of War-esque wrecked cars to litter my fantasy CoD board for ages. I'll have to remember this.

Can’t take your eyes off these little buggers for a second! They are multiplying like bunnies!

I decided to cast some more models so we can get some terrain going and this time around I added the obligatory battle damage. I have in mind both a scrapyard as well as a wrecked petrol station, any other ideas? I'd be obliged

I have also purchased some new models to be cast as soon as I lay my hands on some plaster. Oooh, shiny B)

The new casts look great and the two new cars ought to add some variety. Your car yard's are going to look awesome indeed!

What about a used car yard, small building, strings of flags, beat up cars in the car lot?

Multistory car park, littered cars everywhere, some that have been pushed over the edge so they're standing vertical?

A big bridge crammed with decaying vehicles that have been abandoned (like you see in some apocalypse movies ie Escape From New York, I Am Legend, etc)?

Thanks Jim, not original, but they'd set the scene on a table I reckon ;)

Any chance we could see some of your cars littering you terrain Severian?

I always find it helps open the door to creativity when I shuffle my terrain around, trying out now 'poses' with freshly made scenery and all that :)

Some great Ideas there Ross. B) I'll see what I can do about some photos of the wrecks in the terrain this weekend. I absolutely love the idea of the wrecks abandoned on a half destroyed bridge, very post apocalyptic. I'm still working on the practical aspect of that though.

Well instead of a bridge make it a destroyed highway overpass. Then it could fit in to the theme of most tables with little problem.

B) An over pass would be more suited to a gaming table, unless of course you want to make the river, banks etc.

Sorry mate, I don't think I can help you. I can picture it from movies aplenty, but I can't recall seeing on from a gaming table.

Thought of a new idea - how about a burnt out convoy? Two 4by4s either side of a limo. Could even make them genestealer cultists? Dark purple, almost black.. I may actually get cracking on that.. I bought some plaster the other day for these, and a big mixing jug, but the cars i could find were either too big, too small or too expensive. Sods law!

The whole thing looks simple enough for even me to give it a go!
