Well seeing I've built enough vehicles for Open Bash to totally equip a SM Company, I need some help with the Traits. I've never played SM, so I'm in the wilderness, but I want fully mechanised force. I don't wan't restrictions on vehicle types either. Any ideas chaps? |

Good to see you've turned to the Astartes...we have Armour Saves!
One thing to remember with traits is that according to the 5th edition rumours they will 'disappear as they are now'. Of course you can always keep the force Codex-only. However for a mechanised force there's a couple of traits that are too good to pass up, like Trust your Battle-Brothers. Disembark from a transport, hose the enemy with rapid fire and still get 2 attacks per Marine when the remaining enemies counter-charge. My Marines have this trait and it is very useful. Also good would be Cleanse and Purify since you'll want to load up on special weapons in a mechanised force. I think nearly every mechanised Marine force has these two traits combined. If you take just one you can choose a minor disadvantage, which won't restrict your vehicle choices, and if you take both you could take Aspire to Glory, since Dreadnoughts aren't really at home in a mechanised force anyway (I think). Hope that helps, will you be basing this army on an existing chapter or will you invent your own? |

Not aware of a trait that allows more vehicles than normal! Just play vanilla, it's easier. For apoc, there are no restrictions anyway! lol |

Digits this is planning a 200pt SM force Hive, not to bothered about Dreads, chapter, all I want to so is red based! Be great to have a Red based successor to the DA, or I can look at Blood Angels |

blood angels and stick EVERYTHING in razorbacks, cheap and effective, in 1000pts games my razorbacks are used as transport if facing an army i need to get into CC with (ie guard/eldar) and against armies i want to shoot at (nids/orks/other space marines) they act as fire bases, anchoring the line and bolstering my force with heavy weapons. they are my only heavy weapons in 1000 point lists and they perform the role admirably |

Unfortunately I'm gonna have to agree with bod here :P... (hate it when he does this to me)... take 2 or 3 small units in Razorbacks with a single HQ joining one of the units... then spend the rest of your points on tanks

Thanks lads, I've got four LR, which can be used either with the force or my Inquisitorial. Two Preds, One of each Type of Turret, sponsons magnetised so swapable. One Rhino/Razorback, but plan to get two more. Sounds like BA it will be then. Plus I could have a Baal!

Right after some research its going to be: Angels Vermillion The dark Red Armour is Mecherite Red based, so these Landraiders can go the full suite over without to much changes. I will try out my freehand in the Hive way! |

Razorbacks are very useful if you want a mechanised force. The lascannon variant is my favourite as it effectively turns the transport into a light tank killer. The main problem I have with the razorback is that it limits your unit size and therefore denies you the oportunity to split the squad into combat squads. Rhinos on the other hand lack the punch of the Razorback weaponary but allow you to field full units which can be split into combat squad forcing your enemy to concentrate fire on one squad of five. The combat squads present the enemy with more targets to shoot at meaning that he cannot concentrate fire from larger twenty man units as effectively as before. I tend to use the Razorback as a flanking unit whilst the predators and landraider draw fire. Dreadnaughts are also great and the new Iron Clad variant sounds pretty nasty if it becomes a reality. I have to say, with the imminent arrival of a new SM dex you may want to hold your horses on decking all the squads out with a razorback. If I'm reading things right, SM squads are going to either come in 5 man or 10 man flavours with tac squads only allowed a special and a heavy in 10 man flavour. Looking forward to the havoc that causes with the 6 man las/plas brigade. |
