The advantage of GW water effect is that kids can use it safely and it's easier to clean than varnish. Veteran hobbyists can make use of alternatives while younger folk just starting out can't. Some parents don't want there kids using varnish. So rather than saying it's a con, just say it doesn't suit your needs. The tank farm looks great though. Very impressive.
