Tonight was the night. She had to do it.

She’d heard the scientists talking, they were planning something, and soon, they had to get the hell out of there…

Ravenholm.

Otherwise known as hell for any of the occupants not on the payroll. The things that happened here would make the High Chancellor himself shudder. But then, for all she knew, he could have funded the whole damn thing…

She could barely recall her childhood. She just remembered playing with her older brother in the yard, when a man in a suit picked her up and threw her in the back of a black van, her brother had screamed, and reached for her. She had been crying, trying to find a way out, but the man had told her he was taking her to her new home.

He had long blonde hair, icy blue eyes and a square jaw. He peered over his glasses at her,

“Shaede?” he inquired, “You are Shaede McKillan?” Silently the little girl nodded, her cheeks stained with tears. “Good, my name is Klaus Reinhart, I am a doctor at the Ravenholm Facility. Do you know what we do?” Again the child was silent, but shook her head. The man pursed his lips a moment, “We are a hospital, we make people better, and you little one, are very sick.” The girl’s eyes widened in fear and he simply laughed, “Do not fret, for I am here to help you. I am a doctor, and I can make you better.”

“I don’t feel very sick,” the girl replied timidly.

“I know, but have you not noticed, your special… abilities?” he looked pointedly over his glasses at her. She looked away, she knew what he meant. She could do things. Strange things that no one else could. And it frightened people. It upset her mother. She found she could hide better than any of the other children, and she could sneak up on them without being seen or heard… and once, when she was afraid… she ran through a wall. Shae didn’t know that meant she was sick…

“You are a special little girl,” Doctor Reinhart muttered, looking over the file in his hand. Shaede looked up, surprised to hear him say that, no one had called her special, especially once they knew what she could do…

Shaede cursed her own foolishness, she had grown up thinking… no, she did not even want to give form to the words, that man was nothing more than a liar. He had conditioned her to be some kind of… pet.

As soon as lights were out she snuck out of her bed, and down the hall. She carefully opened the door to Noire’s room. Noire was her best friend and the only one she really trusted in this gods forsaken place. Noire had special powers too, different to Shaede’s, but she was the only one that listened to Shaede, and the only one who she found comfort in…

She gently shook her friend awake.

“Come on,” she whispered. “We’ve gotta go.”

Noire opened her vivid blue eyes, turning her sleepy gaze to her companion. The memories were still clear in her mind.

The wind was blowing restlessly that day. She was only two, but the memory of the wind never left her. Her little white sundress blew around her short legs. The gusts were also making her long black hair messy, strands clinging to face. Her face was miserable, looking ashamed as she stared helplessly at her hands, holding nothing but a broken glass unicorn. She sniffed. Holding it too tightly had broken off some of the tinier pieces. She had feared that the wind would steal away her precious horse. He good luck charm.

Her ten year old cousin stood there, unable to say anything. Rubi adored her sweet little cousin. She cupped under Noire's hands, smiling softly. "We'll find a way to fix it. Let's ask your papa."

Noire sniffed, nodding, wiping her nose. They had gone home, finding strange men there. Noire hid behind her older cousin in fear. "Woobie...who people?"

"I...I don't know."

They were approached by a military man, clad in a black red uniform with gold trimmings and a hat to match. His right arm was a robotic prosthetic limb. Semi-long strands of fiery red dangled gracefully from under his hat, framing his menacing but otherwise perfect face.

"Are you little Noire Squire?" he asked silkily.

"Who wants to know?!" Rubi demanded.

The frightening man glanced impassively at the older child. There was the slightest glimmer of a smile before a blow struck across Rubi's face, knocking her easily to the ground. "
I want to know."

"Woobie!" Noire cried out. Rubi was unconscious even as one of the officers picked up the toddler. "Mama! Papa!!" Her cries only got louder, but no one answered.

===

It was so cold, she couldn't breathe, her eyes stung, but not with tears of agony. Noire was raised from the tank of ice cold water, shivering. Years she had been here, and still they would never give her a straight answer. Why was she here? Was it because she was different and thought maybe she was dangerous. No, she was more concerned with why she had to be punished. She didn't do anything wrong!

They only explained to her that she wasn't like normal little girls. She had to be secluded in this hellhole because the world would never understand. The wretched doctor had watched her, among others, with perverse excitement in the pursuit of science. World order, he claimed once. Bull. Because of her erratic behaviour, they only punished her more. At least there was someone she could trust in this place.

"Shaede," she began, sitting up. "You memorized the layout?"

Shaede grinned, a dark flash crossing her eyes, "of course," she tapped the side of her head, "its all in here." she took her friend's hand to help her up, and peered out the door.

"All or nothing, I hope you’re ready..." with that she mentally reached out, darkening the hall to a pitch black; she wanted to avoid the security cameras as long as possible and the shadows would help her. She crept down the hall and pressed to the wall, holding Noire's hand tightly. She led her down the first hall, then another, keeping the darkness around them as best she could.

"Very good Miss McKillan." doctor Reinhart encouraged the 8 year old.

Shaede had successfully darkened a small corner, big enough for her to hide in and not be seen. The doctor was curt and factual in his praise, but every so often he would offer her a small smile. It was that smile that she strived for. To please him, for he was kind to her. Or so she thought.

"But do you not think you could do better?" that disappointed tone, Shaede's small smile dropped, not good enough...

"I will try, Herr Doctor."

"Klaus you coddle her too much." came a curt and haughty reply. Shaede's breath caught in her throat, Doctor Hortensia Reinhart. Klaus' twin sister. She bore the same blonde hair, icy eyes and had a frosty demeanour. She was not kind. In fact, she was called Doctor Frost by many of the patients. Shaede was sure that Dr. Frost had it in for her. Just the way that she looked at the girl. It gave Shaede shudders. Frost always pushed the girl to exhaustion with her powers, forcing her to the brink of collapse, and was never happy with the results.

“My dear Hortensia, if the girl cannot do it, we must not blame her. After all, perhaps she is not as special as I had thought?”
Shaede began to panic, Reinhart was going to think she was not special if she didn’t do something! What would happen if she wasn’t special? He would not want her anymore! Shaede’s panic grew within her, she clenched her little fists and whimpered, her eyes squeezed shut as she concentrated deeply, her fear fuelled her power, and in moments the darkness spread from her little corner, the shadows deepening, and the room was covered in darkness completely.

“Ahh, you see Doctor Frost?” he said mockingly, “All she needs is a little, encouragement.”
The rare smile crossed his lips and the little girl ran to hug him. He knelt and embraced her in return,

“Now it is time for special little girls to go to bed.” He told her, she nodded, and he kissed her forehead.

“Goodnight Doctor Reinhart.”

“Goodnight dear one.”

And with that she was sent to bed, not even realising what he was doing.

Shaede grit her teeth as she pulled the cover off the air shaft, there was little time, they had to get in, and put the cover back on so that the next patrolling guard did not notice anything was wrong. She gestured for Noire to follow as she shimmied up the shaft.

“Only a hundred metres of this…” she muttered quietly. From there they were outside the main facility, then they had to cross the compound and over the fences. Hopefully, if they reached the coast before dawn, they would be safe.

Noire was silent the whole way, very focused on her hand being held. She had to be careful when it came to her hands. They were strong. As they reached the fences, climbing was her specialty. Not needing to instruct Shaede to hold onto her back, the girl did just that, arms and legs wrapped around Noire. Fingers lengthened, blackened, sharpened and hardened all at once, turning into demonic claws. They looked gangly and frightening, though they were very strong. Climbing the fence was nothing to her. The added weight of her companion only made it slightly more difficult, getting her foot holds was awkward.

She heard voices off in the distance behind her, motivating her to move faster and practically vault over the top, landing on her feet with a slight twinge of pain. Not bothering to put Shaede down, she strode away swiftly, her speed also known besides her strength. She had to be fast. It was in her nature to be.

"I expect you to do better than that," scolded Dr. Frost.

Noire was now ten, looking defiant. "If you can do better, do it yourself!"

Looking indignant, the scientist backhanded her across the face. "I also demand respect."

Noire covered her cheek, teeth gritting. It stung at first, but the pain numbed to a dull throb soon after. Both shades of blue glared at each other. Frost's eyes narrowed as she spotted that Noire's eyes were different, glowing with malice. They were still blue, but the colour was more vibrant. Continuously looking down upon each resident of this facility was the only way she found to get any sort of satisfying result. It felt like she could coax more from this girl with pushing the right buttons, but today would be all.

Days later, she was in a poor excuse of a classroom, or at least a grungy sort of replication. Other kids Noire's age were just as much as victims as she was. No, she felt differently than them...she wasn't resigned to stay here forever. Glancing over at Shaede, she knew she felt the same. The other kids were rowdy though, showing off and striving to be the 'teacher's pet'. She will not succumb to such foolishness.

===

She screamed with rage, "LET ME GO!!!"

Scientists held her down, ready to inject some sort of drug, probably a powerful sedative. She shoved them off with a strength she didn't know she had, diving off the table and going into a corner, backed-up like an animal as they approached her cautiously. One nearly dove at her with the needle. Noire shut her eyes tightly, screaming and lashing out, something feeling different about her hands. Only the tips of her fingers had made a transformation into black claws, dripping with blood. The scientist that went to attack her now lied on the floor, slowly bleeding to death

She looked at her bloody hand with fascination, not fear. When guards came in moments later with Klaus, they found Noire clinging to the corner on the ceiling, back to them, claws dug into the wall as if the fact that it was made of iron meant nothing. Klaus got a ladder, climbing up to her. Her whispered darkly near her ear. Whatever he said, just the way he said it urged her to release her grip on the wall before he carried her down.

Hortensia seemed to disapprove of her brother's actions, but seemed mildly pleased that the darker side of Noire had begun to surface. Though, a brat was still a brat. A monster will always be a monster. And once a scientist, always a scientist. She looked at Noire's claws with fascination...the things one could do with such an ability. Noire barely caught her gaze, shivering slightly. What did that horrible woman want now?

Noire reached the cliffs, looking around. "Hold on," she muttered, carefully climbing over the edge and down. She found a hanging they could rest on as they heard those people coming closer.

As they jumped the fence Shaede heard Noire grunt, it was a pity her feet could not become black and hardened too, that would make jumping a lot easier… She chose to stay on her friends back as she knew that of the two, Noire was slightly faster, aside that, Shae had used a great deal of energy concealing themselves in darkness. She was tired, and needed to recharge in case she needed the power later.

The land they travelled over was mainly grass plains, lit by the moon, Shaede ensure that they did not reflect any moonlight, else they may be spotted. They travelled for quite a while, Shaede was amazed Noire had the stamina to keep going.

The ocean sounds reached them before they saw it, Her heart raced, they needed to get out of there, far from Ravenholm, the sun would rise in a few hours, they needed to be past the cliff, and find a boat to sneak onto to get them off the peninsula to the main body of land, hopefully then they could find a way to Erebus, where the girls were from.

Shaede heard voices, she figured the guard would patrol out here, so she kept silent, and kept them in a cloak of shadows, against the black sea, the guards would hopefully see nothing.

”Yes my dear, you are doing well,” Dr Reinhart encouraged, she was 14 now, growing into a woman, but with puberty came a spike in her powers, and also they became harder to control. Dr Reinhart encouraged her to keep a diary, which she wrote in faithfully every night before sleeping.

Shaede was trying to use her powers to not cover herself, but create a shadow image of herself, a decoy, She then used the shadow to make herself look just like the shadow copy, so the difference was undistinguishable, Dr Reinhart was smiling widely now, it caused her heart to flutter foolishly. She was not one of the other, vying for his attention, showing off to be noticed. She sat and waited. Her patience was usually rewarded, and she felt herself giving into the doctor’s commands more easily.

She knew he would never hurt her. She knew he would protect her. He only wanted the very best for her. She had the utmost faith in him.

She was a fool.

After training he escorted her back to her room, which she found unusual, but secretly enjoyed. But when they reached her room, she expected him to bid her goodnight as usual, and kiss her forehead in a professional manner. But this night was different.

“You are growing up little one.” He said softly, not looking at her,

“Herr Doctor?” she asked softly, her large silvery eyes looking up at him in surprise.

“Have I ever told you what a beautiful woman you are becoming Shaede?” he asked, in a voice that made her knees weak. He turned to look at her and her words were caught in her throat, she could not speak, she could not move. His piercing gaze held her to the spot. He seemed to move in, gently his hand brushed a few stray hairs from her face, her breath hitched and she could not breathe. He seemed hesitant, as if conflicted, and she wanted to tell him it would be alright, but he turned away,

“Goodnight… Shaede.” He said huskily, and strode off down the hall. Shaede was left stunned, her heart pounding in her chest.

They had reached the bottom of the cliff, She looked around for a boat. Through the gloom, her silvery eyes spied a jetty, and a small boat with supplies was being unloaded.

“We have to sneak into the cargo hold…” She muttered thoughtfully, “And we’ll need a distraction…”

Listening for the patrol looking for them, Noire was silent, dead set on keeping her ears open, waiting for them to leave. Eventually they did, giving her the chance to emit a sigh of relief. She looked down at the waters way below them. Even if she climbed down safely, the water would be too cold for her to swim through for long, that and she couldn't stand cold water. It always brought her into a state of panic, she couldn't even swim. She noticed the thoughtful expression on Shaede's visage. She followed her gaze, noticing the dock.

From this distance, even at her speed, it would take them an hour to reach that place. If only she had wings, then none of this would be an issue. A thought, she looked at Shaede. "Keep me covered."

With that, Noire leaving her on the small cliff, climbing back up. She peered over the edge to find the patrol in the distance, but not unreachable. One of them had a hover scooter she could snatch, though admittedly, she didn't know how to drive one. Climbing back down, she got Shaede to climb her back again before climbing back up once more.

"We're going to take that scooter if we want to reach the boat in time. Stealth is not my strong point though." She looked at Shaede expectantly. "I know you're tired, but if you can hold out a little longer we'll be home free."

Shaede nodded to Noire’s request, keeping her in shadow, watching for a short moment as her friend climbed up, then watched the dock workers, her eyes were trained in the dark, and she could see great distances well, in the dark especially. The boat was small, but big enough for them not to be seen if they were to hide in the hold below decks.

Noire returned after a short while and instructed her to climb on her back again, Shaede was curious what she had seen, but complied.

As they reached the top, the girls crouched by some bushes nearby as the girls eyes the nearing partrol. As Noire spoke Shaede understood what she need do,

“Don’t worry, I’m not exhausted yet.” She flashed her friend a confident grin before readying herself, “If you stay out of their torch beams you’ll be practically invisible, I can drive that thing, just make sure you kill them quickly so they do not raise the alarm. If we don’t kill them, they’ll come after us eventually.” She said with a grim expression. She knew her friend could do it, but she was not thrilled about having to kill someone.

She stayed in the bushes, cloaking Noire in darkness, she kept her head down, Shaede would not be as fast if she was using her cloaking power, and might just be a hindrance to Noire’s efforts if she were to join her. She gave a nod to her friend, letting her know she was ready, the patrol was approaching quickly, it was time to strike.

Scooter in her sights, she practically slithered across the grass at a high speed. She came up behind one guard, grabbing his head and giving it a sharp twist, snapping his neck. She had no qualms about killing anybody. They made her out to be a monster, so she might as well be one. One by one, she killed them all. Looking over, she gave Shaede, gesturing her to come over as she brought the hover scooter closer, meeting her halfway.

"Let's get out of here fast. When'd you learn to drive anyway?"

Shaede nodded as she saw Noire has dispatched of the guards, she was beginning to slow, her body was tired from the constant use of her powers. However she would not give up, she would die first than return to that place. Now that she was out, she would never go back. She ran over, keeping as low as she could.

She just grinned the same wicked smile as she always did,

“I would ‘borrow’ one from Frost.” She laughed softly. The doctor always hated her, so Shaede figured she would give the good doctor a reason to.

That moment lingered a long time in her mind… so often he would give hints, of wanting to be closer… but then he would sometimes act so professional that she would not know if she had been imagining it.

Til the day she turned 16.

She had finished a bout of training with Frost, and had returned to her room after a shower, she was surprised to see Reinhart waiting for her, his back to her at first but when he turned she was something in his eyes, something she had not before seen. She opened her mouth to speak, but he crossed the room in an instant, and she was pinned to the closed door. His lips were on hers, crushing her against the door, his hands on her shoulders.

She was so stunned that at first she could not move, but her heart fluttered and she gave in. He held her there, kissing her deeper in a frenzy before coming up for air, his breathing was ragged, and his eyes kept her in place.

“You are mine,” he hissed possessively. Wide eyed, she too eagerly agreed.

How easily she fell then… and to think, it was only four years ago…

“There’s a path down to shore ahead,” She informed her friend, “I was looking at it a little earlier, seems to lead right to the jetty,"

Noire watched her with a sort of intensity that made people shiver, like she was staring through her soul. "You're tired. Driving can't be that hard. Let me do it."

Noire had to be one to watch out for Shaede. She cared for her well-being. Even though she occasionally acted like an older sister, she was actually younger. Right now a ripe nineteen year old. Still, before she turned into an adult...that didn't stop caretakers from abusing her body.

"No!! Let me go!!" she cried out, only sixteen, pushing away the groping hands.

"Now, now, little girl, this won't hurt a bit. I wonder what a monster virgin feels like."

"I'm no monster! You guys are! Get away from me!"

They only laughed at her. She was shaking with self control. They believed that she was soft hearted and wouldn't lash out with her claws like the first time. They were wrong, but they already had her clothes torn, exposing her young body. She cared more about her modesty at the moment, trying to cover up. Slowly, the rage began to build more and more, though she never saw it coming. They never expected it. She screamed, forcing her hand through one's chest, eyes glowing. She easily lashed out at the others, killing them on the spot. No one would take her. Ever. Men...she hated them.

"Let me drive," she repeated, seeing that her comrade was starting to doze off while she stood. As a precaution, she held her shoulders, keeping her steady. "Just tell me how to drive."

Shaede was tired, more than she was willing to admit, but she would still soldier on, when Noire suggested she drive Shaede wanted to ignore her, to keep focused on her task.

“I’m fine,” she said softly, but after a wobble on the handlebars, she decided it was best if she have a break,

“Let me drive,” Noire repeated, Shaede finally pulled off to the side of the path, letting her friend take over.

“Very simple, handle bars turn left or right, your right foot controls how fast on that pedal there, push further to go faster. Left foot is for braking. The lever there has three settings, top one for forward, the middle for neutral, and the third is fore reverse…” Shaede explained quickly, hopping on the back, “And, thank you.” She said sincerely.

He had come to her room about once a week, talking to her, not as a mentor, but as a friend, she confided in him, and he told her things of himself, where he grew up, where he went to school, about his family, and about the world outside Ravenholm.

He confessed that he wanted to take her away from here, to take her to all these places, to be with her. And each time he would leave her with a blistering kiss, enough to melt her to the core. She listened to his words and drank them up, night after night, yearning to hear more.

Then came the night he asked her what he needed of her,

“Before I can take you from here darling, I need you to participate in some tests,”

“Tests?” she had asked. She should have run.

“Yes, they will be difficult, but I need you to do them, once they are done you and I can leave here, together.” And to seal the deal he drew her in, his hand at her hip, caressing her gently as he kissed her yet again. His lips captured hers and the world became silent around her, as though all that was left was he and her in this tiny little room.

“I will, anything you need... I will do it.” She breathed and he smiled.

He kissed her deeper than before, and his hands began to undress her. That night they made love in her room, and she truly felt she was a real woman.

They neared the jetty now, Shaede kept her eyes open, and the cover over them,

“We need to find a way to sneak on board without them noticing us…” she muttered softly.

Noire wobbled at first, but not much, and eventually she managed to handle to scooter fine, gliding across the road, heading straight for the dock. She noticed their lights was on and she turned them off, concealing them in the dark further. She stopped the scooter a good distance away to avoid any noise attracting attention.

Getting off, she helped her friend on her back again, deciding she needed rest right now. They were almost there, she thought optimistically. She put Shaede down for a second, watching the workers. They had lots of time to spare since they were only half done with resupplying. Still, they had to move quickly.

It wasn't difficult, moving onto the ship and into the cargo hold. Most were too busy to even notice if anything was amiss. Hiding behind a stacking of crates, she sat down, simply listening out for the workers, but they made it. All they had to do now was sail off to whatever town they would head out to. Still, she barely had a plan of what they should do when they reach said next town. Money, clothes, food...that was the extent of it.

She held on to her friend as they drove down, Noire switched the light off, making it much easier for Shaede to keep them hidden. They pulled up off to the side of the jetty, stashing the scooter in some bushes in the dunes.

Shaede took a deep breath, and nodded to her friend, they timed it, they had ten seconds from the moment the dock worker disappeared inside to when he returned, they would have to run for it.

The moment he did, Shaede was on Noire’s back, and they ran as fast as the girl could run. She was panting by the time they made it, with a breath’s space of time too. From there they darted back and forth between the crates while the workers were not looking. Finally they could relax slightly,

“This ship travel’s to Parren, we should be there after sunrise, by then, Ravenholm will be on high alert, and we will have to make ourselves scarce, do you have any family you want to see? Will they help us?”

Shaede was anxious to see her own family, she had not seen them since she was five years old…

Difficult he had said.

Well that was an understatement. First they drew enough blood to make her pale and woozy. Then they pushed her through the most difficult test she has ever undergone. Frost even had a machine that consisted of two steel plates, crushing her between them, expecting her to phase through them. The demand was high, and she struggled through it with faith, the faith that he would take her away. That he would love her forever.

She was put through intense training, sometimes leaving her too weak to get up the next day, other times they would experiment on her, cut her open, mark her skin, burn her, put her through terrifying and disorienting trials for her to fight her way out of, forcing her to kill soldiers that shot at her, flashing lights and smoke…

For three years they put her through this, turning her into a poised, graceful and highly trained assassin, she was lithe, agile, fast, stealthy, and deadly. She perfected the courses, all under the guise of Doctor Reinhart. He would preen and praise her, telling her what a wonderful job she was doing, telling her how he longed to be with her outside the facility, but his job kept them apart…

One night, she took matters into her own hands. She snuck into his office, attempting to speak with him, and she hoped to seduce him into being with her again, but he was not alone when he entered his office.

“…honestly you are a fool when it comes to that child,” Shaede heard Frost say, she quickly hid herself in shadow,

“Now dear sister, is that jealousy I hear in your voice?” Reinhart laughed as they entered. He placed his keys on his desk, and wrapped his arms around his sister. “You know you are the only woman for me…” he kissed her gently and Shaede’s eyes were wide, her chest began aching.
“You seem close with her,” Frost growled icily, pushing him back, her eyes narrowed at him, “Too close,”

“Ah dear Hortencia…” he charmed, taking her hand, “I do what I must to gain her trust, have you not seen her results? They are off the charts! This should help us with the Diablo Project significantly,”

“So that’s it, you do this to her just to get results?” Frost asked,

“Of course, Shaede is just a child, barely human! She is just a test subject. Nothing more.”

Shaede could remember nothing after that. But she does know that was her first escape attempt, she heard the medics exclaiming the next day that she had killed nearly twenty soldiers before being knocked out with a tranquiliser reserved for large beasts. From then on she shut herself off, allowing no emotions in, and on occasion letting her rage show through…

Shaede rested against the inside of the room,

“Wake me when you start feeling tired, I don’t want you to keep yourself up all night. I’ll take next watch so you can have some sleep before we arrive.” She told Noire.

Nodding, Noire watched as her friend dozed off. Looking at her hands, she watched as they transformed back and forth numerously, practicing in silence. She used to have trouble controlling their appearance. She had plenty of sleep before Shaede woke her up earlier, so she was hardly exhausted, just bored. Her claws could pierce many things, especially various metals if the material was thin enough. It was one use she did have...

"Useless," Frost had called her, looking at the results on a clipboard. She looked up at Noire, snorting in disdain. "Completely useless. You improve too gradually. It's pathetic how you can hardly control yourself. Do you not wish to be praised like your dark friend?"

Noire sat on the stool, hair hiding her face. "I could care less about anyone's approval." Noire brushed aside her hair, revealing half of her face, giving the doctor the dirtiest and smuggest look. "I'm better than you...
human."

Noire was satisfied with the enraged expression on Frost's face, knowing she hit the center of the target. Frost snarled, "You...think you're better than me?! You impudent little brat!"

Noire caught Frost's wrist as the doctor attempted to slap her like before. Noire was quiet, as if talking to herself, "I don't think, or know. I just am. You humans...you're like a virus, migrating to one place, use up all resources, then move on. Perhaps...people like me, we're just the next stage in evolution. Humans naturally fear what they don't understand, then take what they don't understand for themselves. You're pathetic. You're all going to hell anyway. I might as well just put you there sooner."

With that, Noire crushed Frost's wrist, breaking it, causing the older woman to scream. Guards came into the room, barely managing to pry Noire's deathly grip on the limb. Noire didn't need training to be a killer...she already had the instinct of one, Frost had realized in fear. It only made it that much easier to put the girl through similar training as Shaede.

It was not a pleasant morning. Ravenholm was in disarray. Most of the staff actually feared the arrival of the General of the Military's forces. Lao...it was a name most feared. Not only was he the army's general, he was also a prince, son of Sinclaire, Queen of Gaeos. His mother was also someone to be feared.

There had been a myth about Sinclaire, or Sin, that she had a battle to the death with her sister, Drakonia. Nobody truly knows the details, and records of the battle had been lost. Still, people feared the queen, and her son.

Lao stepped into the facility, noting the chaos that was taking place at the moment. Nobody took notice of him at first, but he said nothing of it when they finally did, their backs straight. His very presence caused a disturbing silence as he walked down the hall, steps echoing eerily and dangerously.

He stopped, hands clasped behind his back, emitting power in his stance. "Where are Doctor Klaus and Hortensia Reinhart?"

Shaede was strapped to a table, syringes at the ready, the experiments that marked her skin about to begin. She had been in solitary confinement, alone with her rage for weeks. She was more animal when they pulled her out of the cell, she had nearly gouged a doctor’s eyes out with just her fingernails when she was released.

“Wait,” his voice. Her teeth grit, she growled deep in her throat, as Reinhart entered the room. He ordered everyone out, and reached to touch her face, brushing his hand through her hair.

“Oh Shaede…” he whispered sadly, she knew it was fake; he was nothing more than a monster.

“Don’t pity me doctor,” she hissed, her voice was no longer sweet and soft as it had been, her big eyes now narrow and suspicious, if her head was not strapped down, she would bite him. “I have been awakened. Now, I can see the truth, I should thank you… But it won’t stop me from killing you.”

“Shaede, what you heard, what I was saying to Frost—“ he looked away a moment, “It was lies, I had to tell her that, so you would not be harmed, if she thought you threatened her… she would hurt you, worse than any of these experiments… please, believe me, I will take you away Shaede, I will protect you I swear—“

“Fool me once doctor.” She muttered, a psychotic smile on her lips. “Do not think you can fool me twice.”

She was a different girl to the one he had escorted to bed just two months ago… but after nearly so long in solitary, with only betrayal in her mind... what could they expect? She was trained to be a perfect assassin… now she had the mind to go with it…

And heaven help him it made him want her all the more…

Shaede slept a few decent hours before waking, her dreams were always disturbing, the nightmares would plague her and she would wake in a cold sweat. Tonight was no exception. And having a place to sleep that was not familiar to her took a few moments to get used to, she looked around slightly confused before it came back in a rush. Her eyes calmed and settled on Noire. She wiped her brow of perspiration, she wanted to move, she felt rested enough.

“Any guess on where we are?” She asked.

A few of the junior scientists spotted the prince and panicked, one ran off down the hall, another spoke weakly as he bowed low.

“They… they’re in their offices your highness,” the scientist pointed, shaking visibly.

“Sir,” a soldier stepped up, a captain commander by the badges on his uniform, “I can escort you to the Doctors Reinhart if you feel it necessary.” He offered.

Amongst the chaos, Reinhart and Frost had begun arguing, the discovery of two missing patients causing a complete lockdown was not the worst of their troubles. Not only was it the first successful escape in decades, but the two most prominent patients were missing atop all of that, Prince-General Lao was coming to view progress. They would have a lot to explain… and naturally Klaus blamed his sister,

“Had you not interfered they’d have been right where we want them, and they would be the most loyal soldiers in the military!”

“Are you upset that I frightened your pet away?”

“I am upset that nearly fifteen years of planning and military training, along with a large pay packet, has escaped because of your incessant vanity!”
