Jethros eyes looked up at her before he raised his head to her.

"Waste of your time? you're in prison or didn't you notice? it's not like you have a hell of a lot to do in the first place. that being said yes I know most of those files are bullshit but it doesn't mean I'm any less informed about your unrecorded exploits. A few of your fellow friends are in here as well and they were more then happy to get me the original files on you."

he placed the pad on the table and stood up making sure it was visible to her and then walked over to the window overlooking part of the prisons facilities and a crystal mine off in the distance giving off a blue glow through the field.

"By the way don't let it be discovered that you're a hacker, some people are here because of people like you and no matter how well you think you can outrun or out maneuver someone if they want you dead... you'll be dead. you can't be awake twenty-four seven. Now is there anything else you'd like to say or volunteer forward? or shall I call the guard?"
Hello darkness, my old friend,

Friends? Fuck, she thought. Not friends; competition. The only friends she ever had are either dead, or working at that convenience store on the corner of where she used to live. Riley stood up straight, inhaling deeply. Instead of saying anything, she walked out, waiting for the guard. She'd behave...for now.

When a couple of guards were called into the area, she allowed them to escort her back to that annoying elevator. It took close to five minutes before reaching the prison ward, or as the elevator's voice politely put, Residential Sector. It consisted of many buildings, shaped almost like beehives with balconies on each ring. It seems she had finally caught up with her prison groupies, forced into the back of the line. This place was bright as well. What's with all the fucking brightness? she thought to herself.

When she finally made it up to the desk, she was told to hold out her identification and she held out her arm, the strip and barcode being scanned. Her file was read--again--before being assigned a room. She was going to live on the thirteenth floor, room seven. She was brought into an elevator that had the same fucking annoying voice before being brought up to her room. The guards marched her down a roundabout hallway before reaching her assigned room. She glimpsed the scan on the door before raising her wrist. Once scanned, she was pushed inside and she cussed at them as the door closed by itself.

Resigned to her silence, she glanced around the room. Typically, it was just as bright as any room she had been in. The walls had a mirror sheen to them and in one corner was a bed with a thin blanket and one lousy pillow. In another corner was a frosted glass door. She walked up to it, the door sliding automatically on her approach. Inside was a toilet that washed your butt for you (sadly, those frightening things do exist), so there was no need for toilet paper, and a surprisingly nice looking shower stall. She looked to the sink then the unbreakable mirror before she opened up the mirror, a medicine cabinet inside, but all that was in there was a clean toothbrush, toothpaste, a bar of soap and a hairbrush. How thoughtful of them, she thought bitterly.

She walked back out to the bedroom, looking to one wall with a thirty-inch widescreen. The hell? They know she's a hacker and they put her in a room with a TV anyway. Dumbasses. Sighing, Riley walked up to it, touching the screen which rippled from her touch before turning on. Oh god, not a TV, a fucking control panel! She was getting excited now, pressing things on the screen, opening up room options. The walls can change colour?! She looked to the white walls before changing the colour to black and her headache began to subside already. The room had its own temperature control, so she warmed it up slightly.

Suddenly there was a simulated ding, and a window popped up, informing her of usage rules and how her actions would be monitored. She looked up information on the prison itself, then was reminded once more by the same rules. She growled disapprovingly before another notice popped up, informing her she had thirty minutes left before she would begin her first day in rehabilition. Joy, she thought again bitterly.

Another ding was heard and she blinked, knowing it didn't come from the control panel. She looked to an empty space of one wall, seeing a compartment that likely would have resembled a replicator from Star Trek, but it wasn't a replicator, it was a delivery system, and they delivered her food. Crap food. She walked over, looking at a plate of beans and a piece of bread, annoyed that they didn't even think about meat and vegetables. Where's her chicken!

===

An office in the same security building, only it seemed to mirror the main security, had its lights dimmed, the dim silhouette of incense smoke rising. A man sat in silence as a blood transfusion machine exchanged his blood. The doors to his office slid open as one of his soldiers walked in approached him in the dark.

"Captain. The Warden wishes to see you."

"I see. He can wait. He always has. I'm assuming it's about the new shipment of prisoners."

"More or less."

"It's the same every time. I don't uderstand why he must repeat himself to me. I may not be human anymore, but that doesn't make me any less intelligent. Lights."

The lights flickered on, revealing Captain Sessue Aizawa of the Tactical Riot Force. His skin was pale, hair semi-long, straight, black-blue in colour and barely framing his amethyst eyes that had a slight glow to them. His clothes consisted of a black uniform underneath a long white coat with a hood and the faction's insignia on the left breast of the coat. He didn't need stripes on his coat because the one who wore the white coat was considered the captain. The soldier before him wore the same uniform, except his coat was black, and he had the typical military stripes on both arms. Only the high ranking officers had hoods on his coat. He was just as pale and his eyes glowed as well.

"Tell the warden I'll be down when my transfusion finishes."

"Of course, sir." The man left Sessue to his thoughts.

Jethro looked out the window towards the crystal mine and glanced at his data pad, the new system should be installed within the hour it. He smirked, things like this had a habit of having glitches the first few years. Turning back around he set the pad down and opened a drawer and pulled out his gun. Holstering it and picking up the pad again he left the office and started for the wardens office.

Sessue removed the needles, standing up before grabbing his weapons, leaving shortly after before he walked down the halls and to the elevator. He was greeted by the voice, smiling at the pleasantness of it before announcing his destination. He waited a few moments before he reached his intended location, walking through the head building. He soon stood before the secretary before being ushered inside.

"You asked for my audience, sir?"

Jethro made it to the wardens office and walked up to the secretary that was working just outside it. Dr Tran walked up next to him.

"what is this? meeting day?"

Jethro joked to Tran, He laughed as they stood there and the secretary simply sat there smiling.

"You'll have to wait a few minutes, the warden is already seeing someone."

They both nodded and then sat down and waited for whoever was in there to finish.

The warden lit up a cigar, enjoying the flavour of smoked leaves, straight from Regis II. He looked at Captain Sessue. "Read the files of the new inmates?"

"Yes sir. You even brought a hacker on board I see. Shouldn't she be in solitary, sir, and not in one of the 'luxury' rooms?"

"Ms. Tombs will not be a problem. Besides, Jethro has these systems monitored extensively. She's good, from what I hear. However, nothing can beat our system."

"Extreme violent tendencies, multiple counts of assaults. I believe she may cause problems in this place, especially since she's a woman."

"Don't worry about her. I wanna talk about the shipment."

Sessue's eyes darkened slightly. "I see."

After ten more minutes, Sessue exited the office, walking past Jethro and Tran as if they were invisible to him. It was more out of distraction than anything else.

once the man had left Jethro and Tran got up and started to walk into the office.

"could say hi once in awhile"

Jethro joked as the door closed behind them. Jethro walked up first, you wanted to see us warden?"

The middle-aged man looked up, halfway through his cigar. "I assume you already read the files of each inmate from today's shipment, so let me get to the point. Jethro, I understand you already spoke with one of them. As you are the Captain of Security, I expect you already know what that woman is capable of. I want to warn you, that despite everything you know, you shouldn't leave yourself open to give people like them an opportunity. But...she may know some things that might be valuable to our government unlike the rest of the computer criminals living here. I want you to...make friends with her. Get on her good side if possible, and learn anything suspicious she may know. A person like that doesn't simply share with anyone."

He looked to Tran. "As for you, I want you to evaluate the new inmates extensively as usual for the science department. They could use more subjects for their research."

Jethro nodded but let out a sigh.

"why does the science department need so many test subjects? explain this to me because eventually someone back on earth is going to notice and eventually someone is going to do something. what happens to them? where do they go?"

The Warden frowned as he stood up and looked at Jethro.

"I think you overstep your pay grade Captain Hunt. Watch yourself or you might find yourself in a very nasty work detail or worse. Your Dismissed."

Jethro shot him a look."

"I said your dismissed. get out."

Jethro turned to leave but stopped for a moment and looked at Dr Tran and spoke loud enough for Tran to hear.

"my office twenty three hundred hours."

He walked out and as soon as he had gotten into the lift he pulled out his pad and hit a few buttons on it before waiting for a response before speaking into it.

"have that new inmate... Riley Tombs in my office at twenty three hundred hours tonight, and cut all security feeds from my office complex. none of this is to be recorded or in anyway visible to the rest of security without my expressed permission."

Later, Riley was serving drinks to other prisoners. It didn't take long for her to figure out how the rehab programs worked. You basically work to earn credits to pay for overly priced luxuries, like a steak, and it goes on your record, thus the metal strip. The ID worked like a credit card for prisoners as well as an ID number. Unfortunately, you couldn't receive tips. Icy pools roamed over the room of what she could only consider full of rednecks and junkies. Located at random posts throughout the bar were typical guards, armed with their non-tons.

As she walked past a table, some bastard managed to grope her ass. Rather than squeak in reaction, she reacted by dropping the beers on the tray she held, clocking the guy across the face hard enough to knock out two of his teeth. His buddies stood up while he groaned in pain. Giving them a look, she took a step back as one charged her, spinning around him to quickly jab him in the ribs, enough to stun him as she grabbed his hair, bringing his head down fast into her knee.

"You like that?!" Another came at her, but stopped in mid-stride when he saw a guard behind her, electrifying his non-ton. The pitiful group simply backed away, leaving the bar entirely to avoid permanent damage. Riley turned to look at the guard. "I hope you weren't expecting anything."

"I wasn't, but the Captain requires your presence in his office at precisely twenty-three hundred hours."

"I'm working."

"He'll take care of the lost pay," he assured her as he walked away, only to be rewarded with a snort.

===

Riley decided to be an ass, like usual. Precisely, huh? Well, she wondered what would happen if she were even one minute late. She looked at the office doors, inhaling impatiently as she knocked. "You raaang?"

Jethro looked up from his computer and towards the door.

"come in."

He waited for her to enter and started speaking before she was even fully inside.

"good to know your punctual that'll come in handy. now we just have to wait for Dr. Tran to arrive and we can begin. until then is there anything I can get you? a drink? something to eat? or of course any questions?"

"How about a nice juicy steak, a real glass of water, and the answer to why I am being hailed to head security's office?"

She was not entirely impressed, and gathering by the expression on his face, he wasn't either. So far, he was probably being more patient with her than she was with him. With that said, she took a seat, crossing her arms, putting her feet up on his desk as she waited for his answer.

Jethro smirked a little before pushing a button on his desk.

"Send up a steak and a glass of water."

He sat down behind his desk and opened a file on his data pad and examined it for a moment.

"Seems you're one of the best with computer systems, could get you into a lot of trouble around here... on the same note could also open some opportunities... Sanctioned opportunities."

A guard came in carrying a try and set it down in front of Jethro and left. On the tray was the steak and water with cutlery, he pushed it towards her.

Riley blinked, unable to believe that her sarcasm actually got what she wanted. Cautiously though, she slowly removed her feet, putting them down quietly as she almost sheepishly pulled her chair forward. Pulling the tray closer, she was almost tempted to sniff at it for abnormalities but restrained herself. Gingerly taking up the fork and butterknife, she frustratingly began cutting at the meat, having trouble cutting through the fat. Stupid fucking butterknife. Once she had successfully cut a bite portion, she slowly took it into her mouth and nearly moaned from the tender meaty juices.

Seeing Jethro's expression, she cleared her throat after swallowing. "What kind of opportunities?"

"oh nothing special, Tweaks here and there, nothing near security of course, at least not right now. You'll of course be paid in credits and should you chose it'll replace the current set occupation for you. that being said however there are some reservations.the big and pretty much only one is you do not do anything you're not asked or have permission to do."

He reached into his belt and produced a sharp bowie knife and set it on the table for her.

"the first thing you can do if you accept this is to change the dam AI in my office."
