I remain tattoo-less.

I don't have anything against them or people who choose to have them, but I don't think I could ever have one, for the following reasons.

1. It's permanent (unless you have painful, expensive surgery)

To be honest, I've made some dreadful decisions in my life - and to think that I could have branded myself with whatever design, famous person or quote I was mad about when I was in my late teens or early twenties... well, it doesn't bear thinking about. Basically, I don't trust my judgement enough to think that I could ever choose something I'd be happy to live with for the rest of my life.

2. I don't have a good enough body to show it off.

My weight goes up and down a lot. I'd hate to have some design that looks great when it's first inked and then I put on or lose weight and my tattoo looks dreadful. There's also the thought of ageing... and the design looking wrinkled. Don't like the thought of that.

3. Lots of tattoos look horrible.

Don't get me wrong - some look great... but I've seen some real horrors and, honestly, the majority of tattoos have something wrong with them. To think that people have to live that way for the rest of their life with some botched drawing, tacky graphics or tawdry piece of verse adorning their bodies... it's really not for me!

4. It hurts!

Yeah, I'm no wuss, but you really have to want a tattoo to put up with having a needle rapidly piercing your skin. No thanks!

Anyway, that's just my opinion. What's yours? :)

One thing that I do think is cool are people who get Paul to sign their skin and then have it tattoo'd over. The McCartney signature tattoo is great, full stop.

Still not for me, but I do like it on others.

The main reason I don't have one I guess is that it's permanent. I've had whims of getting one, but never seriously really considered it.

There is undoubtedly stuff I love (and will always love), but I can't help thinking I'd get tired of whatever image I'd choose somewhere along the track. I like change. When I want to proclaim something I'm into, and I've had that desire at times, I shout it from the rooftops by wearing a shirt or something.

I also can't help thinking some designs get horribly dated. I remember when I was in highschool (late 90s), there was a craze of getting (mostly dodgy) Chinese symbol tattoos, because *cringe* Scary Spice had them. I'm not sure all the girls who had them done are that thrilled with them now...

I have nine - and they tell the story of my late teens, early twenties. I've got everything from a unicorn seemingly jumping over a moon, to the now obligatory white tiger, to my daughter's name and birthdate tattooed on my wrist. I now think unicorns and tigers are kitschy, but that obviously wasn't my mindset when I was 18 and 21. However, I appreciate them because they remind me of the person I used to be (who wasn't so bad) and the person I'm growing into as I get older. I have a Celtic cross on my right arm to symbolise my faith, a runic starsign with my birthdate underneath, a Sioux indian tribal rope around my left calf and a gothic fairy on my breast.
I don't believe in Bondi. I don't believe in rugby league. I believe in Yoko, John Lennon, the Lost Weekend and me.

I have a commitment problem. The word permanent freaks me out sometime. I have had one in mind forever, but maybe I'll make it into a mural on the wall instead. I love them on other people.

I saw a large, faded "Ghostbusters" logo on a man in Brighton who appeared to be in his late 40's/early 50's.

Wonder if he regrets it now? :giggle:

It's good that you're still fond of the ones that you wouldn't necessarily choose to get these days! That's as much as you could hope for, isn't it? :)

Well, I've got 3, and I wanted them permanent because I knew they were 3 people who would inspire me until the day I die. Paul's signature is on my shoulder in reference to the line he hated... "the movement you need is on your shoulder"... since Paul has always been my inspiration... my pat on the back...

I added John's signature and caricature over my heart last year on my 30th birthday so he would always be close to my heart...

Donovan site on my arm because his spiritual nature inspired me greatly. :) Not getting any more though.

Either this man is dead or my watch has stopped.
I too am without tattoo. I like Barb's idea: make a mural. Or something. I just can't see doing anything permanent to myself like that.
I took my brains out and stretched 'em on a rack
Now I'm not so sure I'm ever gonna get 'em back

Oh! You got a Paul signature before it was 'in vogue'? Now all the gals want him to sign them up on stage at his shows so they can get it tattooed. You're a trend setter!

Some tattoo's do look cool and there are those who do an exceptionally good job. (Kat Von D)
If I were to ever get one, it would have to have a lot of meaning, one that would still have meaning when i'm 80 something years old. I see a lot of the tattoo's that my friend's get and a lot of the things they have ink'd on their body are things that appeal to them in the present, too me that's just kind of foolish and a waste of money. Who say's your going to like what you got done when your 80? .. It wouldn't look the same, once gravity and age get's a hold of your skin. :pinch:

Tattoo's aren't for me.. but maybe my opinion will change when I get 80 .. haha!

I think that's a plan - get one when you're 80! Something to look forward to. Start picking a spot now that will be the least affected by gravity.
