It's That Time of Year ~ AWARD CEREMONY

It's that time of year for us to have a little fun with our year end AWARD CEREMONY. Now remember, this is not a popularity contest, we receive our awards with humor and graciously kiss butt to all who voted for us or kick butt to those who didn't! lol

Your allowed 5 votes for each category but only 3 winners. Remember to keep this fun! Voting for the awards ends December 31st, at the strike of midnight, Central time zone (because that is where I live :-) ). This will give those on the other side of the ocean more time to vote ~ less for those West of me. If you don't want your vote to show, you can also PM me.

And a Thank You to Andy for not minding us to amuse ourselves with his award ceremony.

The mention of Heather Mills and Mozart8mytoe seem outdated to me, but I get the drift. Also, don't we mean 2009 re the newcomer award? And I really think we need a few different categories, no?

Any suggestions, I'm opened to add or delete from the list. For those who already filled in the questionnaire, can always amend it to me.

Thanks Kirsten for the votes! I have been a pretty good "pop" lately. Keeping up with my 3 kids that are involved in many activities has been tough this year. My daughter is now in the middle of her JV basketball season at her high school. My middle one is in his freshman year of junior college in the town that Tassy lives in. He plans to become a lawyer. And my oldest is a college senior majoring in Biology. He is also a cheerleader for his college's basketball team.
On Tuesday, Becky and I raced across the county to catch our daughter's basketball game and then drove and hour & a half south to see our oldest receive an award at his college.

Long time lurker and some of the new categories are too offensive to even bother with. The Heather Mills awards was changed to the Tony award? The mozart8mytoe award is still there.

How dare you use member's names in a derogatory manner in these awards?

You seem to know a lot about members for being just a lurker. :P Why comment now?

I do believe a "Tony" refers to excellence in theater, and while I think the mozart8mytoe reference should be deleted for obvious reasons (to members with knowledge that is) I don't believe it is meant in a derogatory way.

We can change the Mozart award. It seems the more we look into if she was real, we always come to a dead end.

Helter Skelter ~ What categories do you find offensive?

I love how people like to be charming and take forever to answer those simple questions.

When there is a reply, everybody comes here to see if they are considered the most attractive/sexiest boardmember, the most most most of all.

Who doesn't love to be known for superlatives? ;)

As a charming person, I am still thinking about the complexity of these awards.

See you soon -_-

It's all in fun. I don't come on often enough to get more than a couple of votes but it's still fun among friends. We've gotten much smaller yet some of us have been around for a long, long time and we'd hate to see these go away.

You could always do what I do Maryann and copy the form in Word then fill out a draft version and keep looking over the new entries as they come out and adjust as you feel you need. Then you can turn in your entry whenever you feel ready.

Might be more work than you feel like dealing with though. :giggle: :innocent:

I went to my high school reunion a couple of months ago. (stay with me, I’m going somewhere with this) There was a girl there who I had gone all through high school with and we’d never said a word to each other. It wasn’t that we disliked each other or were snobbish or anything – it just never happened. I was determined that I would at least say hello at the reunion.
It never happened of course, for the same reason it never happened through our school years. But I know she’s a lovely person.
I’m saying this to illustrate that if I don’t mention anyone, it doesn’t mean I don’t like you or haven’t noticed you or don’t remember you.

Since this is a time for telling people how cool we think they are, I’d like to say a few things to a few people and the award categories don’t give enough scope to do that. So, if you’ll indulge me....

Judy,
What a baptism of fire, huh? Many others would have said “screw this for a joke,” and walked away. And a couple did. But you stuck it out for the good of the community and your friends. Never let it be suggested that you didn’t do an absolutely sterling job of keeping the forum together under the most trying of circumstances. Thank you!

Andy,
I seem to remember in a moment of frustration saying something about Strawberry Fields being more than just you. In a way it may be, but who was I kidding? To say the forum hasn’t been the same without you is an understatement, and the hole that was left here made everyone aware of just how hard you worked to keep everything (and I mean everything) about this forum fresh and interesting and friendly. You have always gone out of your way to support and encourage all members in every way, and the fact that the place seemed so empty without you just goes to show how loved you are and by how many.
Remember this next time you have a grudge on yourself. ;)
Welcome home, old friend.

Bettina,
You are the real quiet achiever here. You’re an excellent mod on both the policy and technical sides. You’ve been a key part of the forum’s survival and I don’t think that has been said enough.

Michelle,
No-one knows what you’ve been through. You have the strength of an elephant and the soul of a poet – and often the temperament of one too. ;) Whatever you do will be amazing.

John,
You are the perfect gentleman of the board. Always respectful to all and on every level. I know you like to throw a few pot-shots out there, but that belies a very open and well thought out view based on an honourable and admirable set of values. Seeing fab4fan on a discussions ensures it’s going to be interesting and worth reading.

Ron,
You are infuriating, but fascinating. I’d love it if we could both get time to properly discuss what informs your point of view. Put me down for one of those beers. I promise I’ll pay for it. ;)

Clare,
If there were an award for most misunderstood, you would surely take it. I will never understand why some people are praised for their honesty and take-no-shitness while others are pilloried for it. But I know that toughness masks the kind and generous heart that has been through the kind of things that would make a lot of others realise how lucky they are.

Jayne,
You’re another quiet achiever of the board who has always worked hard to keep things positive and interesting.

Lisa Jacaranda,
If Switzerland had a face, I’m pretty sure it would look a lot like yours. I don’t know how you do it.

Sarah,
Payback’s a b*tch, huh? You were totally right to point out the parallels between what happened to us here and what happened way back when. And I know there’s no schadenfreude in there, it’s just the truth. It’s harder than it looks. Respect!

Mia,
Although I’m sure it washed right off you, you didn’t deserve the sh*t you got from this board, and this board definitely didn’t deserve you.
Which brings us to....

Tony,
Thank you for the biggest laugh I had all year. To be accused of spending three years creating four different personae, routing them all though different proxy servers and different computers so that several of them could be online at the same time, sharing messages between themselves, all for the sake of having a quiet giggle at you? That’s hilarious!
But to be called a w*nker by a man who wears a beret? That’s priceless!

Linda,
WTF? I truly don’t know what I did to you, but whatever it was, I hope you’ve been able to put it behind you and get on with your life.

Lee,
You’re basically a nice guy. I always admired the way you live life to the fullest and approach everything with gusto. You just needed to understand that it’s not all a game, it’s not all about you and sometimes you just have to let it go and agree to disagree. Otherwise, the judge’s decision is final.

Pood, Gaye, Olen, Charles, Heidi, Dotty, Mary Ann, Doris, Anna, Dianne, Lisa Retrollama, Barb, Mark, Liz, Bev, Irene....
YOU are the pillars of this forum. Kind, fun, interesting and unobtrusive. You care enough about people to take an interest, but never let that interest become invasive. That’s what a caring forum should be about.

Finally, thank you to everyone who stuck up for me during the big dust-ups. I didn’t like to say anything at the time in case it became more fuel for conspiracy theorists, but I was truly touched.

The reason I haven’t been around much lately has nothing to do with any of that – just that my work situation changed and I have a lot less time to be here. Probably a good thing all ’round. I don’t know if I’ll be here much even when I do have time. In a way, our generations are pioneers of online communities and are learning as we go what’s good about them and what’s bad about them. The love and care expressed here is a beautiful thing. But realities of life get in the way. People get sick. People have personal crises. And when these things happen, the rest of us can do nothing but helplessly check a computer screen hoping for good news. I wonder if we sometimes get too close to those we know online in a way that can only end up hurting people. There are people here who I love like family, but for me, it might be time for a rethink of my online activities.

So thank you for reading through all of this. Votes to follow. ’Til then, Selamat Hari Natal

I am extremely touched by your post. You can tell the words are heartfelt and I feel this is my favorite post of any post you wrote.

It shows a side of you that some members (or past members), may never have seen or some may have tried to ignored.

I personally Thank You for being a friend and helping me with the technical end of the board. I'm not a computer guru, that's my son's job.

He'll show me how to do certain tricks on the computer. But it was you who took care of a lot of headaches for me. Also thank you for the encouraging words when the bickering was getting out of hand. On one hand, members want the freedom of speech but when you leave them with that right, World World III breaks out. You have to draw the line to what is proper etiquette on a forum to each member. I've shed many tears over the past year and your encouraging words kept me marching forward, along with a few other members, who stood by me.

I hope you do come and visit us, we'll especially miss your input in the music and political areas.

Merry Christmas to you!

(((Peace n love))),
Judy

That was such a nice post, Bill. You are like Andy on this board. You go together like peanut butter and jelly. Yikes...what a crazy way to put what I am thinking but you know what I mean. This board wasn't the same without Andy and it won't be the same without you. Maybe you will decide you can't stay away from all of us nut jobs! Just kidding but it saddens me to think you won't be around. I've grown to respect your opinions whether I always agree with them or not. Merry Christmas to you, Bill.

Bill - I am a bit choked up reading this. It's like one of those Christmas letters that people send, except that this one is really good, it's heartfelt, and I wanted to read it. You are the real deal, Bill. Thanks for taking the time to go outside the box (form, in this case) to express your feelings. I've always appreciated your candor, your passion, and your friendship. Like so many others here, I do hope we get to see you a little more often. I, for one, miss what you have to contribute. Have a good holiday, mate.

To be honest, I never would have thought that I would be one of those pillars, considering there were a few years where I was just.. a complete wreck and came here whining and crying for attention.
One would think that I would have won the best drama queen of (insert year here) lol.

Things have changed since then obviously.. -_-

Anyways, thank you very much, you are an amazing soul, a very intelligent,
thoughtful, talented one at that. I will miss you. (wait? where are you going?!)

btw, ty dotty for the nom. I don't deserve it as I haven't been here as much.

It was time someone said it.

Manon!!! Exactly the kind of person - and kind person - I meant. You are a beautiful soul.

Ron - I had meant to add: ....if only we could stop talking about guitars.

Dani, whatever makes you happy. :P But your 'tool' point is well taken. We love him like a funny old uncle, but it's good to keep some perspective and not go thinking that he can sh*t sunshine. :sweet:

Thank you everyone! Please don't misunderstand my comments as yet another "I'm leaving now talk me out of it," act. I'll still be around, but probably not as much as I was before this year. What I really meant was that I feel the need to prioritise my time a bit. The paradox is that a comment that was referring to the helplessness felt as people I care about go through difficult times has only brought people together more. So instead, let me just say that I hate you all and wish you would just p*ss off!

Okay, on with the awards. :magic:

With all due respect to you Lee, it's weird to have someone's votes being all people from a different board. I don't like to cause any trouble but some people who left the board should not be included in the vote based on how they left. It may sound petty but lots of feelings were hurt by some of them. Others left quietly and that's cool.

Just to let anyone know, any votes for persons who are not current members of the board will be discounted. There's no point in honouring (or dishonouring!) those who no longer participate here. ;)
If they are listed under 'Members' that makes them 'current members', right?
With all due respect to you Lee, it's weird to have someone's votes being all people from a different board. I don't like to cause any trouble but some people who left the board should not be included in the vote based on how they left. It may sound petty but lots of feelings were hurt by some of them. Others left quietly and that's cool.
Which of my votes were for non-current members? I checked them carefully to make certain they were listed under Members.

Please remember that these awards were thought up to be a bit of fun. Let people vote for who they want and you can vote for whoever you want. Let's try to keep this thread light-hearted.

Thanks to Dean & everyone who has dropped votes my way, despite my absence from the board this year. I thoroughly approve of any "Boardie Of The Year" votes going to Judy. ;)

Sing the Changes
I have a feeling that I am being referred to in a couple of posts here. In the SF Amnesty thread, Andy said I was welcome back. End of discussion.

And all of my votes were not for people from another board. Many post at both forums.
