http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2009/07/03/ns-mccartney-halifax-concert.html#socialcomments Nice photo of Paul and Rusty. I'm a little perplexed by his comments about losing the rights to his own songs. I'm too lazy to look up past articles, but I seem to recall Paul as having been quoted, in the not-so-distant past about feeling a bit betrayed by Michael's outmaneuvering him in order to own the rights to those songs. Now he's sort of saying that he got over that whole episode right away. Does anyone here have a different recall about this? :ponder: |

I suspect Paul has learned many lessons about revealing everything you think after someone else's death -- and has taken the best road, which is the gentle forgiving one. Privately though, it wouldn't be hard to imagine that the grudge would continue about the music rights -- as it says in the second article you posted, it has to be really galling to have to pay for the right to sing your own songs every time you play them. What interests me particularly is why the rumor surfaced about Michael willing the song rights to Paul...when it appears he doesn't have a current will. Maybe he was in the process of putting together a new will and someone in his camp leaked this information.... |

There were rumors circulating that Michael had more than one will, but I don't think anything has materialized from that story. The point I was trying to make about Paul is that he seems to be *rewriting* the actual version of history as regards his feelings toward being outbid by Michael. He seems to have a habit of doing this, as evidenced by that bit in Anthology in which he tries to share credit (pass blame) for having been the mastermind behind Magical Mystery Tour. As much as I love Paul, it does seem to me that his recall of actual events can become rather elastic at times, in order to cast himself in a more favorable light. I certainly understand Paul's not wanting to say anything negative about Michael right now, but to claim that he wasn't bothered long-term by that whole song ownership thing just isn't born out by other statements he's made in numerous interviews. Why couldn't he just pass along some complimentary statements about MJ's abilities as a performer and showman and let it go at that? I just don't think he's being straightforward, that's all. That bugs me. |

I think in fairness to Paul he might just be in the habit of doing what the rest of the majority of the world has done in reaction to Jackson's death or when anyone dies...forgetting about the negative and doing the dignified respectful thing of publicly letting it go. I do also remember especially in recent years he has been more relaxed about the situation than he was back in the 80's |

I heard him say in an interview for MAF that his carbon footprint was 'very small'!! It's not! It's not as small as it could be if he sacrifised travelling the world on planes so much like he would do if he was truly commited to the environment. Still it's a free world! |

Yeah, Dani, what I was trying to say was that I can understand if Paul wanted to just say something nice about Michael and leave it at that. Totally understandable. I'm just bugged that he didn't stop there, but went ahead with saying he wasn't bothered for long by that whole song catalog episode. He didn't need to add that last bit, especially as it contradicts things he's said for quite awhile. |

In Paul's Arms!

Bev, he was probably asked that. You know that most every Beatles fan is thinking that. We started getting into that discussion here the same day MJ died. I would wonder why he wouldn't say anything about it. 2006 was 3 years ago. He has really said nothing since. |

I'm not following you. 2006? What are you referring to? This is the specific bit that has me bugged. For a couple of months I was miffed, like anyone would be. But I soon got over it. I said, 'You know what, I've got enough.'" I recall him in interviews years later still making some not-so-flattering remarks about Michael's supposed underhanded tactics. I suppose I could Google and find these interviews, but I won't bother. It's not worth it and I don't mean to belabor the point. I still stand by my comments. |

I remember that too Bev (well from reading or watching interviews he did back in them days, bit before my time just  ). He was still p*ssed and prob still is a bit p*ssed about it all butmore recently his image is to not be negative and hold grudges...if it looks like he is holding a grude after someones death especially one such as Michael Jackson, Paul aint gonna look good and he has got this PR thing down to a t. He did say in his memories of Michael on his website that they later drifted which I thought acknowledged it but who knows. |
