'Star Studded' Michael Jackson Memorial Set For Staples Center Arena by Staff Michael Jackson's memorial will be held at Los Angeles' Staples Center arena on Tuesday (07.07.09). Up to one million fans are expected to attend the star-studded service, with a further 750 million watching on TV. The singer's family has confirmed the ceremony will feature performances and tributes from a range of stars, reportedly including former Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, Diana Ross and Elizabeth Taylor. Former Miss Indiana Kellee Patterson and singer Deniece Williams, both from Michael's home town Gary, Indiana, have also agreed to perform. The Jackson family is reportedly keen to make sure the service lives up to the spectacle the singer dreamed of. The family's lawyer Brian Oxman confirmed: "It's going to be huge. Massive." In 2002, Michael said: "My funeral is going to be the greatest show on earth. That's what I want. Fireworks and everything." Nearly 20,000 people will be seated in the stadium, while giant screens will broadcast the send-off to fans who can't get in. US President Barack Obama - who recently expressed his sadness at Michael's death - is believed to have been invited. The service will start at 10am, and will reportedly last two hours. Ironically, it will be held on the stage Michael spent his last evening alive as he rehearsed for his London residency. Footage of the rehearsals - captured just 48 hours before the singer's death from a suspected cardiac arrest last week - was released on the internet last night (02.07.09). |

If true, this would be extremely tacky and inappropriate ... I don't think you've done a very good job with your fact checking sunflower. Why not provide a link to the source of the article? |

Fea, are you sure Paul is performing? I'm just curious about the source of this article and how reputable this information is, as there are a couple of discrepancies in it. LAPD is not going to allow any non-ticket holders anywhere near the Staples Center area. They've already started blocking off adjacent streets. Also, there will be a total of 17,500 tickets issued. That's it! So, that bit about one million in attendance is clearly not accurate. It sounds like that article was written based on speculation stitched together with a few facts. Also, I notice it said that there would be performances and tributes. I can't imagine that Paul would even agree to a tribute, but if he did, I'm guessing it would be a videotaped comment, at most. His bitter feelings towards Michael over the Beatles catalog was well known and it would seem a little disingenuous at best for Paul to now come forward with some sort of public display of affection. That's just my two cents. |

I agree, the only source that I've found for the info that she's providing comes from a website called inquisitr.com and while it does say that the Jackson family have confirmed various performances ... including Paul ... I don't know if it's really something that I'd bet on. Here's the article from the inquisitr.com that says almost verbatim what sun flower is posting: http://www.inquisitr.com/28104/official-details-of-michael-jacksons-memorial-service/ It'd be a great idea if you'd post the link to the source when you post things, that way people will have something to consider. Some of the info that's come out is just plain nonsense, like last night on Headline news they spent about 20 minutes being outraged that people would be charged for the tickets to the memorial (which was revealed to be completely wrong yesterday afternoon). |

theres no way i can believe this one. and they won't even let people into the area without a ticket for the memorial so there can't possibly be one million people attending. the most i've heard is 750,000 and i even find that too hard to believe. :-/ |

In Paul's Arms!

Knowing that area, it would definitely be hard to believe. That would mean that people would be packed on the 10 freeway that runs right behind The Staples Center. LA, at best, is hard to get around but this will be a work day and it will be harder to get around with the projected 500-750,000 people. I do think that if Paul were to do any sort of tribute, it would be by video. |

"Among invited guests..." doesn't mean he'll be there. I hope he just stays with his public comments (which were fine) and doesn't participate in this circus.... |

Sorry Fea but what a croc. First of all, rumors are that the coffin was going to be glass-encased and not a rumor is the fact that the large screens outside the venues will not be used. Just the screens inside the Nokia Theater. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/entertainment&id=6897666

I just read of list of participants-and thank God Paul isn't one of them..... I KNEW he had more sense than to be a part of this circus. I will be really unhappy if he makes a surprise appearance tomorrow (but I don't think he will) |

Don't you think that if he were to make an appearance that it is his choice? Why be unhappy about it? If Paul were to go, it would be out of respect to MJ the man and performer and not as an adversary. I really wouldn't doubt anyone showing up at this point. |

I agree with your sentiments except that I seriously doubt Paul will attend. My guess is, if anything, he might tape a few remarks, if asked, but I doubt he would even do that. Just my opinion. -_- |
