Do you believe that John really didn't notice that Lucy in the Sky spelled out LSD?

I think i've been a bit brainwashed by the propaganda...'cause I think I do. I don't know what to think. There is a painting of Julians. Whether he named it LiStwD or not I wouldn't like to say. To ans. your question we need to know if Julian came up with the name or if John did. If Julian did then it's more than likely he didn't notice. He was certainly pretty adamant about it being a coincidence in one interview i've come across. Julian did have a friend called Lucy. She was on the 40th ann. special on bbc 6music. I read a book about coincidences once and it pointed out some reasons to belive it was a coincidence. One of them was that the other songs John wrote for Sgt. Pepper were all based on things he had read or watched in his house. The other was that why would he cont. to deny it when he'd already told Rolling Stone about taking LSD in '70? Yes. Julian showed him a painting he had done and said ' It's Lucy in the sky with diamonds' John has always been open about drugs, so I'm sure he would have said if he had noticed it. |

No I know about the whole painting story - I was just watching an interview where he was talking about it and I thought "hmmmm, I wonder what the ACTUAL truth is"...and thought I'd ask here... |

Is it really so outlandish to suggest that the "actual truth" is exactly what they always said it was? Jim is right. Lennon never hid his message or motivation. Why would he lie about it this time? Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. |

I don't think we can ever be sure now. Maybe only John and Julain knew. Or maybe only John. One of the big reasons i'm suspicous about it is the fact that I can't see many 4 yrs olds coming up with a phrase like that. Any recollections Paul has, and i can't quite remember what he says about it in MYFN but I know he said that he co-wrote it with John more than we've all always thought, are suspicious to me 'cause Pauls got a bit of a revisionist thing going on sometimes. I think he can't help claiming bit's n' peices of credit for stuff just to bolster his own image against Johns. This is going off-topic but i've come to the conclusion that in the court of public perseption John's legacy is trouncing Macca's and has done from the day John died and this had got to Paul more than he'd like to let on. Basically, It wouldn't suprise me if Paul said he'd painted it and ccame up with the title and john had just added a coupla lines and sung. I'm exagerating but...that's why i don't think we'll ever be able to really feel we know the truth. |

Kids can say the funniest things and amaze us. I usually crack up at my grandkids, especially Allison because she comes up with the funniest comments. If she was a computer screened, I would have spit all over her dozens of times. o I believe Julian could have said that. John wouldn't need to make a story up like that, John being John. |

You obviously don' t know kids very well. I have heard some pretty amazing things coming out of the mouths of all of the kids I have ever known and taken care of. Even children as young as 2 can say some very interesting things. Here is the drawing: ![]() And the story that goes behind it: http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/lucysky.asp Sorry, for some reason I can't copy and paste the article. |

This is a sad story of the real Lucy, who is now seriously ill. Julian Lennon comforts ailing Lucy in the sky. The Beatle's son reveals the woman who inspired the famous song has an incurable illness MORE than 40 years after John Lennon wrote Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, his son has gone to the help of the real Lucy, who is now suffering from an incurable disease. Lucy O’Donnell, who was at nursery school in Surrey with Julian Lennon, became “the girl with kaleidoscope eyes” as the subject of one of the Beatles’ most famous songs, written at the height of their flirtation with psychedelia. Julian had drawn a picture with starlike shapes before telling his father that it was “Lucy in the sky with diamonds”. His father used it as a title for a song he penned for the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, which was released in 1967. Lucy, now 46, is suffering from lupus, an auto-immune disease where the body attacks its own cells, causing immense pain and organ breakdown. Two months ago Julian, who lives in France, heard through his personal assistant, who knows Lucy’s sister, that she was chronically ill. “I’ve been able to help out a bit,” he said. “I was so upset to hear what had happened.” Julian revealed the plight of his father’s unwitting muse – now Lucy Vodden after marrying 13 years ago – in an interview with The Sunday Times ahead of a new exhibition of John Lennon memorabilia. |
