A few yrs. ago there was a feature in Q mag. It was comprised of two parts. The first was the ultimate crap song by a great band and the second part was the ultimate great song by a crap band.

The ultimate crap song, acc. to them by a great band was Maxwell's silver hammer! I don't know why I've always thought it was a charming and whacky fun song. I think Ian McDonalds book Revoloution in the head might have something to do with it. In that MSH get's a real panning and all the journalists agree with him because they want to associate themselves with his intelectualism.
The Ultimate great song by a crap band was, I think, Turning Japanese by the vapors.

For me the Ultimate crap song by a great band is Alan Parsons Project-The real world on their Stereotomy album.
The ultimate great song by a crap band is T'Pau-China in your hand. Although, i'm only saying their crap 'cause that's an impression of got from certain music media types.

I like Maxwell Silver's Hammer - always thought it was clever and quirky. There are other Beatles songs they could have picked on.

Turning Japanese - now that's one I haven't heard in a while!

I like Maxwell's silver Handle. It's a 5 star on my itunes list and the song has a happy tune to it.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer is one of my top five Beatles songs. I think it appeals to my twisted sense of humour.
