Dammit, it was centered very close to where I live! About 15 miles away but fortunately only a 4.4. Nothing to sneeze at but I hate them!!!

I think we're in pretty good shape here in LA. Swine flu, bad economy, May Day parades, and now earthquakes!! We're rockin and rollin!

Moderator, perhaps we can join this thread and Bev's thread.

Believe me, Diane, so are we!!

Kind of funny hearing reports from people that were right on top of it, practically, they're saying that about the time the quake hit they looked out their windows and saw how the wind has kicked up. It's pretty cloudy and ominous looking and earlier this afternoon I was thinking how the weather is what I was told since childhood as being earthquake weather. I'm to blame for this! I was thinking quake just about 2 hours before it hit! My bad!!! :giggle:

You probably would've laughed it off. That's what we do after the initial shock of one as small as this one was. Yes it was a 4.4 but nothing even moved in my house, but me! Cats weren't any use, they slept through it!!

No, not until you discover it while watering your houseplants on a hot day, where it has been hiding for 3 days. Damn cats.

I kept smelling something foul in my bedroom all week and after changing bedspreads, blankets and giving Emerson a bath, the stench was still here.

Today, I picked up a towel to throw it into the laundry and voila! There was a HUGE *leftover* on the towel that the petsitter had apparently used to clean up Emerson's butt the night he got *stuck*. :o :P

I have no idea what any of this has to do with earthquakes, other than the fact that my screams upon discovery of said towel probably measured on the Richter scale.

OK, Bet -- stop messing with my head!

I tried to post a reply in the *earthquake* thread, only to get an error message that said "Topic doesn't exist". Not a good thing to do to someone whose head is already hampered by the flu! :nono:

Only if they smell with their eyes.

We had one of around 4.6 here a month or so back. No damage, but enough to know I wouldn't want to feel anything any stronger. In looking for information on that one, it surprised me the amount of seismic activity there is around the world on an hourly basis.
Put a puppet on it.

I was surprised going on the USGS site how many quakes happened all over California within minutes of ours.

I've been through about 4 or 5 earthquakes of 6 and higher. Not fun but as you can see I'm still here and in good shape. We've had some stuff break, water compromised, but that is about it.

Thank you Bet!

If you were standing you probably wouldn't have noticed it. It was felt in the Southbay but just not strong enough for all to feel. Interesting that my boyfriend was on the bed and I had to tell him about it. Our cats didn't do a thing either. Just a sharp jolt that lasted several seconds and a fault line no one knew about.

When we lived in CA. I felt one earthquake 5. something. It was enough to make my bed jump and for a split second, thinking someone was under it. Tornadoes and earthquakes scare me, so is life.

Glad it was a little one and everyone is okay.

I've got rather use to them. When we had the big one back in 1989, I had a "bail bag" near the door for 6 months, had to go to bed knowing where my flip flops were, etc. When that one hit, glass was everywhere and you couldn't walk through the house, had no on hand cash, etc. That never happens anymore.

Kind of funny as the quake was hitting here someone outside was slamming their car door. I thought wow they slammed it hard enough to shake the house. Hope everything is okay with you. Friends near Long Beach said it was pretty hard there but they are okay.

They keep changing it from 5.0 to 4.7 now they're saying it's either one. Our cats did nothing unusual that I could tell.

Glad to hear your all okay with a few things broken. Do you use any of that putty stuff to hold knickknacks in place and does it work? I'd imagine if a quake is high enough, they will get broken.

I hate tornadoes too!

When we moved to Valencia, CA back in 1979, we bought a two story house. Upstairs was a big room over looking the living room. My kids always wanted to sleep out there and I would never let them for fear of an earthquake, would fly them over the railing. I had such a fear, we sold our house and bought a ranch. And that's where I experienced my first earthquake. Valencia, CA., has quite a few faults running through it.

The longer your a California, the harder it is to move out of state (unless you have to), because the weather just grows on you. We lived there for about 3 years and I'd say another 6 months an I would of had a hard time leaving. The weather is sooooo pleasant.

I've been in California all my life and am at a time in my life where I don't think I could ever fully leave. In the winter where else can you go surfing in the morning, skiing in the afternoon, climb rocks in the evening, and still feel there is more to do when you go to bed? In the spring, summer, and most falls take the skiing out and put in hiking and you still have a great place to be. Sure we have earthquakes but that's just nature's way of telling us we have to have the bad with the good (we also get floods and small tornadoes on occasion. Let's not mention Big Rock in Malibu (where the rock actually does slip! shhh!)!
