Which Lennon Best Of album do you find to be the most satisfying? Or do you feel that none of them have ever really had the track listing to do justice to this body of work? |

I don't think any of them are particularly satisfying, but I'm inclined to go for the one that was released in his lifetime. The John Lennon collection was basically Shaved Fish with a few tracks from Double Fantasy added on. Lennon Legend was the same, with Milk and Honey tracks and I think it was released to capitalise on Lennon being championed in the press at the time by people like Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher. The DVD is fabbo though! Then there's the soundtrack to the film Imagine: John Lennon, which it rather pointless except for two previously unreleased takes and also includes some Beatles songs, proving again that it's okay for John but not for Paul. Working Class Hero is probably the best overview of John's solo career - it certainly deserves a double disc. But I find the tracklisting rather biazarre. Personally, I think John's music needs to be heard in chronological order. Also, I object to the title. I don't think John ever claimed to be a working class hero. I think that's Yoko missing the point. The US vs John Lennon is a good collection of John's more political songs is that's what you're after. Acoustic, despite being another collection of songs that had previously appeared on Anthology, is a pretty good collection of above-average alternate takes and the chord sheets are a nice touch. Anthology itself is rather heavy going, so Wonsaponatime is probably all you need. |

My personal favourite is Lennon Legend because it was my first solo Lennon album on CD when I only had a handful of CDs. However, I am quite fond of Shaved Fish, as my Dad had it on vinyl and I listened to it a lot when I was a kid. |

Probably The John Lennon Collection. That's the one I grew up with and got to know a lot of the songs by, listening to it on cassette/ vinyl. |

I've only ever owned one and that was shaved fish on vinyl. Loved the cover and the title and most of the songs and Johns singing is fabbo! (i'm not having a dig there, btw) I've heard Wonceuponatime last year when I got it outtathelibrary. I knew a lot of the songs and the ones I didn't I didn't like, like i'm losing you and Nobdoy loves you when...I respected them but i've just been too spoilt by inspired works of art like A Day In the life to put up with self-pitying lyrical drivel like that. I also liked 'You gotta serve yourself'. I think I'd heard about it yrs. ago but had not heard it and well, I'm pretty antipathetic (get me with the big words) towards religieon esp. when cool guys like Dylan go and blow there cool, so to speak, by getting involved in it. I'm looking forward to getting an ipod to connect to my stero (i've got tinitus and can't use ear phones, or headphones w/e it is) then I can download my own compilation. It'll consist of bits and peices but nothing from POB 'cause that's the only one I'd listen to in it's intial album incarnation. |

I went for The John lennon Collection. I have Shaved Fish on vinyl. I've never seen Working Class hero in the shops. Then again there are very few shops still selling music these days! |
| With every mistake we must surely be learning. | |
