I would say anyone who was in The Beatles' inner circle was a 5th Beatle. In this case, I would say 5th Beatles: George Martin, Brian Epstein, Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall, Derek Taylor, Alistair Taylor, Tony Bramwell,Tony Barrow, Alf Bicknell, Billy Preston, Stu Sutcliffe, Eric Clapton, and Pete Best.

Very interesting question. I think I would have to choose George Martin. Brian, Neil and Mal, all did great things but I'm not sure if any of it was over and above what any competent person would do in the same job.
George Martin went way beyond that, nurturing the Beatles as artists and spurring them on to far greater things, when so many other producers would probably have just hit 'record' and said, "sing!"
Put a puppet on it.

I'd have to agree with Bill on choosing George Martin, with Brian as a close second.

I'd go for George Martin. He managed to put down on tape exactly how The Beatles wanted their songs to sound like.

With every mistake we must surely be learning.

At least Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best were real Beatles.

George Martin has my vote. The Beatles have grown so much since they met him.
