I am so watching the Academy Awards. I have woman love for the host Hugh Jackman, while my husband has man love for him as well. Plus we have just seen "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" which we were both fond of, and just truly loved "Slumdog Millionaire" which is definitely the best picture of the year. And my other man, o' man, Robert "Wow I used to be in prison but now I'm nominated for Best Supporting Actor" Downey Jr. will be there! While watching I will be dancing with a lampshade on my head, but other than that, nothing special to do, why do you ask? |

Are you watching the Academy Awards? Yes, I especially watch the show to see who has the loveliest dress. Doing anything special while watching? Tonight, we're having a Chinese food feast. Chinese food for lunch and dinner. Who do you hope wins? Best dress or worst dress? So many beautiful ballroom gowns. Any other comment ~ post here. |

However good his performance was, we'll never know if it was for his performance or a sympathy vote. Usually they go with the sympathy vote and wait until what they think is their last chance to give the award. |

Shouldn't we be posting in spoilers like we had to do for the Grammys or are the Academy Awards live on the West coast also? Just asking... |

I love Penelope Cruz dress. She said she saw it eight years ago in a shop and it was still there two years ago. She decided to buy the dress, and here she is looking absolutely beautiful |

It's being broadcast live around the world, as far as I know. Unless someone is planning to TiVo and watch later, there's probably no need to use the *spoiler* alert. |

"Slumdog Millionaire" is fabulous that's why it won. Sean Penn deserved to win the best actor. The story of Harvey Milk is so beautiful and his interpretation was out of this world. I'm glad the Oscar was fair this year. |

I was screaming when Kate Winslett won. She so deserved it. I haven't seen The Reader, but Kate is one of those actresses that can read the phone book and it would be interesting. I'm glad Slumdog Millionaire won. Now I really want to go see it.

That was hysterical! The show itself was actually pretty entertaining. Bill, this year Heath Ledger did not get the sympathy vote. He was discussed as Oscar worthy before the movie came out, before he died. Even he said it was his best role yet. Just makes me wonder, and something we would never get an answer for, if his acting skills would continue to grow had he not died. Made me tear up when his name was announced as winner. Just a great role he had in The Dark Knight. I was so proud of Sean Penn for winning but so very proud of him speaking out for gay right to marry. Haven't watched the news yet so don't know about any other picketing other than the disabled protesting the honor that Jerry Lewis got but I'm sure the pro ban on same sex marriage were there protesting Milk. Harvey Milk was courageous man for standing up for his sexuality in a time that it was not acceptable to be gay. Edited by beatlechick, Feb 23 2009, 05:54 AM.

Hugh Jackman can certainly dance and sing. Wow. Loved Tina Fey and Steve Martin..."but enough about our religion. That we made up." Ben Stiller stole the show. Really sharp writing on the announcements of the nominees for the Best Acting awards. Hurray for Slumdog Millionaire, particularly for the fantastic A.R. Rahman, who did an amazing score. His performance of the song of the year was great too -- I am getting that soundtrack, everyone should go over to Amazon and listen to the samples they are great -- I am convinced that the score is one very large reason the film won "Best Picture." Good, if overly long again, show. And I don't think Heath Ledger just got the sympathy vote. He was staggeringly brilliant in "Dark Knight." One of the most riveting performances I've seen in years, which makes his death all the more heartbreaking, because I feel he was destined to become one of the great actors, and we have so few of those now. Oh, and Judy, was I wearing anything during my interpretive dance? I will leave that up to your imagination which I'm sure is very active.

I heard on the radio today that during the commercial breaks Hugh Jackman still went out and entertained the audience by reading notes, telling jokes, going up and down the aisles, giving out cookies, and singing. He really took to heart being a host. He was a good one on tv and apparently a good one off tv. Pretty fine looking, too!!! One thing I hope they keep for next year is the distance from the audience to the stage. It made it look like more of friendly meeting than a ceremony. When we saw Paul at Amoeba, he kept remarking how this show was so different because we were so close and the lights were kept on. He could actually see us and feed off of our emotions and I think that is what was happening last night. |
