You are a very strange lot. You have no idea what Paul is or was thinking or may think in the future. You're always spouting off about wishing others dead and for the most flimsy of reasons. I say this without an ounce of flippancy, but I truly do think you need some psychological help. I sincerely hope you'll seek it out, for your own sake. |

Life does still go on.... I had forgotten about this thread. Intersting reading, interesting change of views. MJ was a very troubled soul and his early career f*cked him up as a result. In the past even on this board we have all debated about various deaths of people. Should we be considerate should we be showing respect for those who life had questionable ways and we are hitting it big time with Jacko. He was once upon a time an extrodinary entertainer and he released some amazing songs and I feel for him that he cant redeem himself with his O2 shows in the summer because he had created a very split opinion about those shows. He dosnt have that chance now to show the world his one last push as the 'king of pop' As for all the jokes and things I have heard a few and some of them are quite good. Remember people deal with death differently regardless of who it is. Some people need the jokes. I need the jokes. We joked about him in life and we will probably joke about him in death too. What is the difference with doing it now rather than waiting a few weeks? Not everyone is going to like MJ. There is still that stigma attached to him whether it happened or not but there is still hostility towards that and many people are not just going to let that go. In fact MJ seems to have been in a minority who has been tarred with that brush that it seems to have been forgotten. But as we know death allows the creativity of a diffent life. The bad tends to be forgotten and the good often exagerated (thats not necessarily a bad thing) The rights of the beatles songs.I think that is only Beatles fans actually thinking about that right now and thats only because it was spurred on by recent media speculation. Paul has increasingly said it would go back to him eventually anyway so I dont really know what the deal is with that anyway, but he seems to be doing not to badly without it |

I agree completely with DCBeatle64 ... however I would add that given that Michael was nearly half a billion dollars in debt that his estate is going to be bogged down in dealing with his obligations to his creditors. He was notorious at living beyond his means, and at being sued due to not abiding by his contractual obligations. He was, in essence, broke. If he would have been able to perform the concert series in London then the situation would not be as it is, but he didn't. It's doubtful that the financial aspect of his will is going to be relevant, his assets were in disarray and whatever he "had" will probably be used to accommodate those that he owed money's to. Therefore the catalog will more than likely be returned to the artists and the artists heirs according to the mandates of copyrighted materials. However copyright laws are different in the US than they are in Great Britain ... for example in the US, copyrighted materials are covered for 95 years (which should be more than enough to cover the extent of an artists life), while in Great Britain it's not that long of a period of time, the laws only extend to 50 years, although last year it was bounced around that the government would be extended it to 70 years. I don't remember if that wound up coming to pass, but the British artists wanted the British laws to synch up with the American laws of 95 years. At some point copyrighted material does wind up in the public domain, if those laws weren't adjusted in the UK then the earliest portions of the Beatles catalog were due to start expiring in 2013. Don't forget that Michael, as an individual, no longer had a majority share in th catalog. He had to give the majority stakes to Sony/ATV of which he was a major board member. Sony intends on keeping the catalog until it expires, in a couple of years time, when it reverts back to Paul. |

Folks ~ i know there are a lot of Michael Jackson jokes out there, but, the man has just died and left a family of young children behind. Let us give the man the respect we would give a friend we care about. He hasn't even been buried or cremated. if you have to joke about him, do it in a PM. Now on the board isn't an appropriate time. Thanks, The Admin/Judy |
