As Emilee so succinctly put it, Oh Dearie Mizzle!

I find it rather curious how the people who talk the most about how great their lives are and how little Strawberry Fields means to them, feel the need to tell us so twice a day.
Do they protest too much?
Oh well, whatever makes people happy.

Bill, am I wond of those people? I hope not. My life is not great. Yes, I got more hours on my job, but my life isn't a cake walk. I'm not going to boast about it either if it was.
I just don't like how people think that internet friends aren't true friends. I was just defending what someone said and kind of agreeing with Judy, in my own interesting way.
This thread has gone totally downhill. I think it's because of the tension. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?

Awww, Bill. I think there is a lot of tension going on here for some reason. I still like both you and Andy a lot. I just wish the bickering would stop and I'm sorry I got into it. This is supposed to be a fun place and we need to make it that way. We got the board and we should be happy. Enough of the bitchiness and complaining of what happened and let's all start getting things together. This thread IS sounding like a broken round. Don't make me start singing, "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)." :giggle:

The tension in this site right now is amazing. There seems so much hate now. Everytime someone posts a message others seem to have a go at that person. Andy gave us a chance to keep SF going, but if it does continue how will it end up?

Everyone just please calm down.

Andy can I just say I adore you, your sense of humour and you stories. This whole ordeal has gotten way out of hand and it is so sad indeed to see what has happened to this board in a matter of days. It is so sad to think that because of a few nasty words exchanged between members that I will be losing a person I consider a great friend. I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed your company that night/morning in Liverpool and at the Chinesey. I have yet to meet someone that can make me laugh as hard as you have, and I can't help but feel a little regret that we won't be able to keep in touch. I hope that in the future if you and Fiona come out to CA again, we could have a meet-up because right now I am totally regretting not being able to attend the last one, and I'd really love another chance to chat with the two of you.

While I do not agree with your choice, I completely respect your decision and do want to wish you the best in your future. Please tell Fiona it was most lovely talking with her last summer and I hope we can again sometime soon.

Your (mine) blog would have been something that I would have completely supported had it not been the product of someone who doesn't care about the people who read it, just how many people read it and how important its viewing figures make the author.

You are too quick to turn on anyone who has anything but praise for your endeavours, making cheap, nasty and unfair smears and to anybody who questions what you do. If there was any justice in the world, it would be your idiotic cut and paste blog closing down, not the place some of these fine people call their internet home.

Jillian, you are one of the most lovely, genuine people I have spoken to on this board and met in 'real life' (whatever that means).

I'm sorry that this has all upset the equilibrium of the board, but I'm sure that most people understand that this experience will continue, here, there or everywhere. Within me or without me. I could go on with the Beatles references, but I think that everyone here knows just how big a fan I am without having to prove it with jest. :P

I adore you, too. I have managed to decipher from the posts that you've made on the board that all hasn't been well with your personal life sometimes, and that's sad to me, because you're one of these people in life who deserve nothing but good things to happen to them. You did an incredible thing by spending the money and time to come to Liverpool. I'm glad that something like that, something that changed your life forever, happened because of Strawberry Fields, and it will be something that you will never forget. That will be the legacy of this place, no matter what happens from now, onwards.

Fiona and I will be in California often. I'm going to be keeping a low profile on the 'Beatles' scene for some time now. I think most people will understand why, but it would be my choice to do so anyway. Bad always comes with good, but you've only ever been part of the good. I hope you know that.

You're awesome, Jillian. ^_^

Dorothy, sadly, this time I am going to walk away. It has been really something to get the amount of PM's I have from individuals asking if it was they who has led me to make my decision to step away from internet forums, but the truth is that it isn't any one person. It is a culmination of experiences, of conversations, of arguments.

I don't mean to be corny, but we're all special people and the only people who really know us are the people we turn to when we step away from the keyboards. I don't know how many people could tell just how genuine Fiona's protests were and anguish was when she posted in this thread earlier, but I'm sure she hated to see someone she loved the subject of so many negative posts. Thing is, she knows me. She lives with me. She knows my inside and my outside.

I'm not saying that people here aren't 'real', but I do believe that there is a certain amount of escapism that people feel when they come to Strawberry Fields. They can say things that they feel about their every day lives that they can't say to the people they share their lives with. We exist in a third dimension. A place that exists beyond reality and fantasy. A place where people are sometimes more honest than in their everyday lives. Now, if that sounds like a contradiction to what I said earlier in this post, it was meant to be. Many of us are great big contradictions.

I have learned a great deal from people here and I have grown. I have thought about certain issues and changed my opinion when I thought my mind was made up. I hope that Strawberry Fields has done that for other people.

I just wish that people could take the good from this place, accept that what has gone is gone forever and move on.

...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Hah real life.

I honestly don't think this is anything you really need to be sorry for. We all have a time for change and yours is calling. Of course the board will go one, we will still post, but with a hole in our hearts. It is indeed a sad day when what brought us together as a whole tears us apart. You will always be in my thoughts, and I would be honoured if I make it back to London one day we could do something.

And no worries about my personal life, many others have had a far worse one then I have. I just take each day with a grain of salt (however large.) I'm just so glad that I had the opportunity to meet everyone in Liverpool and because of that Strawberry Fields will always remain. I can't help but feel incredible hurt in my heart that you will no longer be a part of our family. I am so honored to call you a friend and Liverpool is a vacation I will never forget. I dread the day you call your last. I have always enjoyed your company over others here and I will miss it, but from now on nothing will be the same and it never could have been. The hatred I have read here never ceases to amaze me. I hope you don't feel obligated to pass the board onto anyone, because I can only speak for myself but I have acknowledged it and realise that all things must eventually pass.

As for myspace, considering what's happened here in the last few days, I don't think a new myspace page would be a good idea. I'll still keep my Sean Lennon account and may, from time to time, post there. I know I'll read Sean's forum regularly, like I do now. :)

Great posts Andy.

Some say a sign of maturity is to be able to look at two, apparently contradictory positions and realise that both are true in their own way. Everything I've written here has been the real me. It's not the whole me. It's the part of me that frequents message boards. That's natural when you only see someone in a certain situation. Likewise, if there are people you only see at work, then even if you see them every day, you don't know them in ways that their family do. Equally, you might know them in ways that their family don't.

People have said the most embarrassingly lovely things about me at this place. Things I would never expect to hear from people face to face. But being online gives us the freedom to express ourselves in ways we probably wouldn't in "real life." This is both a positive and a negative thing. Again, the great contradiction.

It's interesting how most of the flak we have gotten over the years has come from how we stuck up for people's right to post what they wanted, even if it was boring, annoying or ridiculous, so long as it wasn't actually hurting anyone. It's also interesting how a lot of that hate came from people who claimed to be peaceful, loving and compassionate.

What was I saying about contradictions?
It's a funny old world...
Put a puppet on it.

Yes, it was a terrific day as was the day after. Just wanted to show Andy that there is something worth coming back to every now and then. I think we pretty much formed a special bond. We may not have been that large group in Liverpool but we were able to get together and get to know one another. After all, how many times can you get together and see the haunted hills of Chatsworth and some of the hangout areas of the Manson clan, not to mention meeting some very fine and nice people?

Olen and Dotty, it would have been an extra added pleasure to have had you and your families there.

I like chocolate! I also like the Beatles. So there! :P
You pretty much have the whole board in agreement with you.
I would like two of the beatles dipped into chocolate
Fortunately for you we are having a special on the chocolate-covered Ringo today. Would you like sprinkles on that? :D
 that wasn't the one I was referring to.

Lisa, as much as I would love to dip them all.. um .. yeaaaah about that .. *looks to lee* .. I'll take a double dipped Paul with sprinkles around the bits.

Andy. I've met you and Fiona a few times now and think that you are both smashing people and it really upsets me to see how some people on this board are treating you. Of coures I'll miss your interesting posts, but life goes on.

I just hope I'll see you around sometime, either on a message board or in London.
Me too Andy, and my invitation to come see me steam engines is still open, you too Jim.
I'm planning a trip to the Bluebell this year. I'll take you up on your invitation.
In the meantime maybe we should meet for a coffee one day on Woking station.
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

 :worship: :worship: :worship:
This is me, bowing at the altar that is the wisdom of Andy!

Yep, sure is, Bill.
BTW, we say nice things about you because they're true. Perhaps, you don't see yourself as we do. Possible, yes?
I'm actually very nasty in person, in case you were wondering. :P

HEY!!!

Grow up, all of you, NOW!

Look, this is not, and I repeat, is not the end of world!! If Andy's tired of running something, fine. Let him end it with some diginty and grace. If many of you want to stay in conact, then you lot go make your own place and connect there. But Jesus, don't bash someone who's had enough for sweet Christ's sake. Come on people, it's just a little message board, not life support. So ok, your daily routine will be screwed up, big deal. Maybe this is a sign folks to shut off your bloody computers, get up off your asses, and go see the real world! Go meet real people! Go find a real hobby! Go enjoy LIFE!! Go enjoy the WORLD! Walk outside if you can, get in your car, look around your surroundings, talk to people, make a date with someone you haven't seen in awhile. QUIT USING YOUR COMPUTER AS YOUR LIFE LINE!!!! We live in a socitey where people don't know how to socialise face to face because we have to hide behind a goddamn computer screen. Yeah, the internet is great in many many ways, but it's also very very sad and patheic too. I'm seeing the sad and patheic right now. My god people, go back and read some of your posts about Andy's choice. It's SAD! Maybe Andy's doing this for all the right reasons. Stop and think about it.

I don't care if I sound like the big bad b*tch right now, but you know what, I'm not the one who's bitching at someone for shutting down a website. You people need to take a good long hard look at your lives and see what's more important than a lousy message board. It was just fun little place, but you guys just made it a life line. Sad.

Come on people let's go and do what she said (feels like being back at school  )

I think the problem with message boards, and I'm not talking specifically about this board but boards in general, is that too many people don't step away when it's in their best interest.

When a message board stops being enjoyable, when it causes irritation, frustration, and emotional distress it's the healthiest decision for that individual to simply leave the board behind as difficult as that may be. There's really no point in holding onto something that causes so much internal conflict.

A message board should simply be a place for people with common interests to chat and have fun.

You're absolutely right, Mindy.

When anything in life is causing you distress, it's time to move on, if it's clear the sitaution can't be remedied. Of course, some things warrant a bit more work, but in the case of a message board, the beauty of it all is in the "off" button.

Another great quote (in addition to the above) I heard yesterday:
"Oh internet! You are a tennis ball and I am a puppy. You baffle and infuriate me, and yet I never tire of you."

One thing I've noticed too is that things tend to take a turn for the worse when we stop talking about things and start talking about each other - whether in public or in private.

While this place is primarily a Beatles forum, we can talk about all kinds of other things too. Talking about other issues with Beatles fans is attractive to me because I know from the outset that they are people of good taste. And in case anyone is wondering, yes, I do sometimes talk about music in political forums. :P

But as for who as said what to whom about whoever, or whether Lee really is made of lapis, I really couldn't give a flying. And I'm not saying everyone should be like me - Lord knows that would suck! Just to keep things in perspective the way Mindy has suggested.
Put a puppet on it.

what is lapis?
Lapis lazuli (pronounced /ˈlępɪs ˈlęzjəliː/) (lap-iz-la-zoo-lee) (sometimes abbreviated to lapis) is a semi-precious stone prized since antiquity for its intense blue color. Lapis lazuli has been mined in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan for 6,500 years, and trade in the stone is ancient enough for lapis jewelry to have been found at Predynastic Egyptian sites, and lapis beads at neolithic burials in Mehrgarh, the Caucasus, and even as far from Afghanistan as Mauritania.

Lapis is the Latin for 'stone' and lazuli the genitive form of the Medieval Latin lazulum, which is from the Arabic lāzaward, which is ultimately from the Persian لاژورد lazvard, the name of a place where lapis lazuli was mined. The name of the place came to be associated with the stone mined there and eventually, with its color. The English word azure, the Spanish and Portuguese azul, and the Italian azzurro are cognates. Taken as a whole, lapis lazuli means “stone of Lazvard”.

The best lapis lazuli is found in limestone in the Kokcha River valley of Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan, and these deposits in the mines of Sar-e-Sang have been worked for more than 6,000 years. Badakhshan was the source of lapis for the ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations, as well as the later Greek and Roman; during the height of the Indus valley civilization about 2000 B.C., the Harappan colony now known as Shortugai was established near the lapis mines.

More recently, during the 1980s conflict with the USSR, Afghanistan resistance fighters disassembled unexploded Soviet landmines and ordnance and used the scavenged explosive to help mine lapis to further fund their resistance efforts. In addition to the Afghan deposits, lapis has been extracted for years in the Andes near Ovalle, Chile, where the deep blue stones compete in quality with those from Afghanistan. Other less important sources include the Lake Baikal region of Russia, Siberia, Angola, Burma, Pakistan, USA (California and Colorado), Canada and India.

In ancient Egypt lapis lazuli was a favorite stone for amulets and ornaments such as scarabs; it was also used by the Assyrians and Babylonians for seals. Lapis jewelry has been found at excavations of the Predynastic Egyptian site Naqada (3300–3100 BC), and powdered lapis was used as eyeshadow by Cleopatra.

As inscribed in the 140th chapter of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, lapis lazuli, in the shape of an eye set in gold, was considered an amulet of great power. On the last day of the month, an offering was made before this symbolic eye, for it was believed that, on that day, the supreme being placed such an image on his head.

The ancient royal Sumerian tombs of Ur, located near the Euphrates River in lower Iraq, contained more than 6000 beautifully executed lapis lazuli statuettes of birds, deer, and rodents as well as dishes, beads, and cylinder seals. These carved artifacts undoubtedly came from material mined in Badakhshan in northern Afghanistan. Much Sumerian and Akkadian poetry makes reference to lapis lazuli as a gem befitting royal splendor.

In ancient times, lapis lazuli was known as sapphire, which is the name that is used today for the blue corundum variety sapphire. It appears to have been the sapphire of ancient writers because Pliny refers to sapphirus as a stone sprinkled with specks of gold. A similar reference can be found in the Hebrew Bible in Job 28:6.

The Romans believed that lapis was a powerful aphrodisiac. In the Middle Ages, it was thought to keep the limbs healthy, and free the soul from error, envy and fear.

It was once believed that lapis had medicinal properties. It was ground down, mixed with milk and applied as a dressing for boils and ulcers.

Many of the blues in painting from medieval Illuminated manuscripts to Renaissance panels were derived from lapis lazuli. Ground to a powder and processed to remove impurities and isolate the component lazurite, it forms the pigment ultramarine. This clear, bright blue, which was one of the few available to painters before the 19th century, cost a princely sum. As tempera painting was superseded by the advent of oil paint in the Renaissance, painters found that the brilliance of ultramarine was greatly diminished when it was ground in oil and this, along with its cost, led to a steady decline in usage. Since the synthetic version of ultramarine was discovered in the 19th century (along with other 19th century blues, such as cobalt blue), production and use of the natural variety has almost ceased, though several pigment companies still produce it and some painters are still attracted to its brilliance and its romantic history.
