the heck with another best of. What about the Anthology that they were working on as far back as 1999? That's what I want, new and unheard George

Apparently Capitol Records, in association with the Martin Scorsese film on George, will be announcing a new release on the day, if not at the event, of George getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That's next week, April 14th.

Let It Roll - Songs Of George Harrison

Looks like a new best of... bit of an odd track-listing, in my opinion, but at least it is (solo) career-spanning.

1. Got My Mind Set On You
2. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)
3. The Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
4. My Sweet Lord
5. While My Guitar Gently Weeps [Live]
6. All Things Must Pass
7. Any Road
8. This Is Love
9. All Those Years Ago
10. Marwa Blues
11. What Is Life
12. Rising Sun
13. When We Was Fab
14. Something [Live]
15. Blow Away
16. Cheer Down
17. Here Comes The Sun [Live]
18. I Don't Want To Do It
19. Isn't It A Pity

It's released on 15th June, 2009 (in the UK) according to amazon.co.uk.

What a disapointing collection. At least it could have included Poor Little Boy, Cockermanie Business and Bangla Desh so these songs would be available again as they got missed out on the most recent re-issues.

I agree that it's a slightly disappointing track-listing. Not really anything there for those who have the recent re-releases, but it may get some "casual fans" into George's solo work, so it has some merit. I don't think anything but a 2 disc "best of" would do George justice and, even then, you'd have to make some tough calls.

And with such a great amont of wonderful George solo songs it seems a great pitty they had to sneak three live versions of Beatles songs on, as if the solo stuff couldn't stand up by itself.

After putting such care into recent reissues, this seems like a wasted opportunity. Neither a 'greatest hits' nor a proper 'best-of.' I know fans will always argue over what should and shouldn't go on a compilation but I truly can't imagine anyone being satisfied with this collection.

I'm in two minds about the Beatles songs. Obviously George's solo canon doesn't need to be padded out with Beatles songs but more casual fans do sometimes need to be reminded that Lennon and McCartney weren't the only great songwriters in the Beatles. It doesn't work for me because I don't like switching back and forth between studio and live recordings on the same album. And the sequencing is weird enough without that.
Put a puppet on it.

I've been looking forward to a new George album as think he was the best of the Beatles as a solo artist. I find this disapointing though. It does seem like a random collection of his work and no Bangla Desh! I find that omision very odd as that was the first of the chartity concerts.

There was talk last year about an anthology of his work. Now that would have been far better. I have 2 double cd's (bootleg of course) so the songs are there, just waiting to be legitamatly released.
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

It's only $9.99 at amazon.com. I'll probably order it, even though it does seem to be missing some gems. :sweet:

Why?

I'd like to see a reissue of "Thirty Three and a Third." It's supposed to be one of his better albums, but it's tough to find.
I never noticed his nose till about six months ago!
