Glad to see Roy Orbison, Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose in there. Shame Michael Stipe didn't make it in

Ringo a great singer?

Nat, good call on Stipe.
Nice to see Moz made the list. And I loved what Bono wrote about Dylan. He can be immensely kickable but when he's right, he's spot on.

Ringo maybe not. However, they did have the Evenly brothers as one of the great singers. So, why not ringo he was part of the Beatles. I thought Evenly brothers was a group.

That's a fascinating list. I may have to stay up all night going through it one by one. I would have put Paul ahead of John for vocal purposes but that's just me.
Everybody's got something to hide 'cept for me and my monkey.

Here's the Top 20;

1. Aretha Franklin
2. Ray Charles
3. Elvis Presley
4. Sam Cooke
5. John Lennon
6. Marvin Gaye
7. Bob Dylan
8. Otis Redding
9. Stevie Wonder
10. James Brown
11. Paul McCartney
12. Little Richard
13. Roy Orbison
14. Al Green
15. Robert Plant
16. Mick Jagger
17. Tina Turner
18. Freddie Mercury
19. Bob Marley
20. Smokey Robinson

Personally, I'd put Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney higher and James Brown much lower. I'd put Paul above John as a vocalist as well... but it's a closely run race and all down to personal preference.

There's a certain irony to Paul McCartney beating Little Richard by one spot! ^_^

Yeah, what Andy said.

And I'm not sure about Marley making the top 20 - that's a tough one.

What about Van Morrison and Elvis Costello?

I would put Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury much higher - Plant was not only a great vocalist but helped to invent the hard rock vocal style (along with Ian Gillan and a few others), and Freddie Mercury was just a flat-out god. And damn straight Barb - what about Van Morrison?

Tom - Van was on the list, wasn't he? No matter what, he should have been in the top 20 for sure.
