Hasn't Ringo had a reputation for years as not being fan-friendly. I think he's known for not signing autographs or taking pictures. At the LOVE premier he never came anywhere near the fans and just threw a peace sign over his shoulder as he walked to the waiting area. Paul AND Yoko both came over and posed for pics. I can't remember if Paul signed anything (too busy trying to get his picture) but Yoko did appologise saying "sorry I can't". |

This is all over the BBC News every half an hour, what a GAFF :duh: Go on any forum you'll find these kind of comments. Is this plazzy scouser for real!!! U mean people still ask the waste of space for his autograph, but now lets be honest he was one of the "FAB4" hello people.... he was 2nd rate and 2nd best at that! He has lived off the name rather than his talent which it appears he has none! He came to Liverpool for capital of culture and spewed out all this Bull about loving being back and that it was his home, then the IDIOT goes onto JR show and slates our beautiful city and says there is nothing he misses!!! Then one easy solution... Drop the accent stop coming back and we will forget about u.... Now i know he is getting on but the reason he has 3 bloody homes is becasue of all those people he does not wanna sign autographs 4.. and who sets a bloody date!!! He is just a hanger on and wants some more media attention otherwise why would he release a video!!! Absolute Grade A Plank!!!!! the bloke is a disgrace to the word scouser, cant we swap him for john an george? and yes lennon did say, ringo cant be the best drummer in the world, hes not even the best drummer in the beatles. never a truer word said in my opinion, he was the only one without any talent, the only reason he has any fans asking for signatures is that he was in the right place at the right time to cash in on the talents of 3 more talented men! Lucky, to be around when the 'liverpool' thing exploded. Gerry and the pacemakers might have made it and the Searchers definitely would with the great songs that drummer Chris crummie dug up from second hand shops he visited....All originally 'B' sides.....I must add Freddie Starr to the list...as Bob Wooler once said 'The most talented person I ever saw in my life...the world's not ready for him yet'......Ringo was just another drummer, but he happened to around at the right time....the luck of the draw..plain and simple. If it wasn't for Lennon and McCartney he'd still be signing his 'Giro' America can keep you Lad :peace: |

I think there are some unfair double standards going on here. Some seem to take the attitude that just because Ringo is more of a music-hall entertainer than a recording artiste, that means he has to be his fans' plaything. The only contract between artist and audience is that they put on a good show. Anything else is at the artist's discretion. George wasn't exactly the most approachable bloke, but nobody accused him of not being fan-friendly. They just understood that he was a very private man. If Ringo doesn't want to mug for the cameras like Paul does (on a good day), then that's his choice and his right. All this time, he's remained far more accessible than many artists who never get ripped for their attitude. Just take a look at Van Morrison or Neil Young. Now there are some curmudgeonly old goats! Ringo's tossed-off message certainly doesn't show him in any kind of good light, but after 50 years in the business, I'd say he's earnt the right to conduct himself as he sees fit. |

God bless ya, Ringo! We have no idea what it's like to walk in his shoes for even a day, let alone for 40+ years. He has the right to say 'no more.' If anything, it's a sad realization that he is at the beginning stages of a possible retirement. Also, in light of John's murder and George's attack prior to his death, who knows what threats he has had? I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. |

I can't really understand why he has announced this or why he didn't 'spin' it... he could have easily said; "Hey fans, if you send me an item of yours want me to sign before 20th October, I'll sign it for you and then send it back. After that, I've decided not to sign things any more apart from when I meet you all. Peace and love, Ringo." That way, we'd all be saying what a nice guy Ringo was and probably sending him something. This way, although I do agree that after so many years in the business he's earned the right to say 'leave me alone', he doesn't come across as such a grumpy old git. To be honest, I don't understand some of the comments about Ringo on the BBC News website. I don't believe that Ringo insulted Liverpool and think that he's a very talented and unique drummer. Seems like any excuse to have a go at the man. I think he's handled this one badly & needs to think a little more about his PR, but - when it comes down to it - the fact that he's been sending out autographs to fans for decades tells me more about Ringo than this petulant outburst. |

Well, here's another clue for you all, the Walrus was Paul...
|
WoW. I think it's most impressive that Ringo has been signing autographs for this long. I had no idea. I did watch the video...and he doesn't handle it the right way, maybe just a bit too brusque...but I think he has gone above and beyond what a lot of other celebrities do in terms of autographs. He didn't have to do it at all....but he did. For years. Isn't that worthy of not getting all angry and irritated with him? I still love you, Ringo! |

I think it does, too, Andy, although I will never know if what I received was an autopen signature or a real autograph. I sent a picture to Paul and received nada in return. My dad always reminds me that it was Ringo who gave me two free front row tickets to a concert in Denver because he liked a note that I gave him in Des Moines. My dad always says has Paul ever done anything like that for you and the truthful answer is no. |

I respect Ringo's decision to do what he did. Look he has been in the business for how long and he is just now asking for a time-out? We should be happy that he is still alive, working, and is happy. He has been in the public eye for so long that I think we need to respect his decision and not come down on him for our own selfish, sorry that is what I think it is, reasons. I will continue to buy his music and see him in concert. |

I still love Ringo, but I think he handled it wrong. I don't like some of the comments I've heard in other groups. Some are saying they aren't going to listen to his music anymore, because the way he treated his fans. Ringo has been in the music business for a long time and gets a LOT of fan mail. I think us as fans should respect his choice and not get upset with him. |

"Dear Beatles Fans and Friends, Most of you have already seen the video that Ringo sent out yesterday regarding a cut-off date of 20 October for autographed articles, photos, etc. After 20 October, Ringo will not be signing items mailed to him. The video of Ringo explaining this to his fans comes across a little... abrupt. But after a great deal of investigation into why he released this video, I found that Ringo had been graciously offering to sign anything that people sent to him. And the overwhelming TON of things that he had received was mind-boggling. On one fan site, there was a list of things that people had sent in and then a list of complaints. Here is a typical complaint, "I sent in two photos, one set of drumsticks, one t-shirt and one sweatshirt. The drumsticks were returned unsigned, and one photo was unsigned." The complaints went on and on. No one said a word of thanks for the things that were signed. And my mind is spinning with the image of Ringo signing endless t-shirts, sweatshirts, drumsticks, and who knows what else. It was extremely generous for Ringo to offer to sign so many items for his fans, but I imagine that when he offered to do this, he never dreamed that people would take advantage of him by sending so many things and expecting so much. And it appears that he has reached his limit. Bottom line... since August of 1962, Ringo has lived in a fishbowl. We've watched every little thing he's done... we've commented, critiqued, observed, and either cheered or booed. And now it's 2008... almost 2009. Enough already. Let the man have some well-deserved time to enjoy life. He had given us almost 50 years of smiles, songs, and shenanigans. Now let's be gracious and give him the rest of his life. Before 20 October... instead of a "gimme, gimme, gimme" attitude (or as George would have phrased it, "I, me, me, mine!"), let's do something for Ringo. Let's all write to him at the address below ONLY TO SAY THANK YOU... thank you for the joy of your music, your positive attitude through the years, your love toward the fans, your Ringoisms, your headshakes and smiles, your humor, yourself. Let's send him a note to say we love you, and we support you. If Ringo is feeling overwhelmed, taken advantage of, besieged... then let's give back to him some of the joy he has given us. Please send a word of thanks or support (and NOTHING TO SIGN) to: Ringo Starr 1st Floor 90 Jermyn Street London SW1Y6JD UK And please pass the word on to everyone you know. I'd love to see his mailbox full of thanks and love, not requests and complaints.
