Some people might think, "Why would anyone get upset over a death of a fish?" Well, just because it's not cuddly like a dog or cat doesn't mean you don't love them any differently.
Liz, I'm so sorry to hear about Julian's death. He was a beautiful fish.

It's so sad whenever we lose a pet, whether they have scales or fur...
We invest ourselves in these innocent little creatures and I feel for you! :(

Molly, yeah that line really pisses me off. Somebody did that to me today actually.
They were like "Yeah.. it happens" .. um excuse the f*ck me!? .. Julian was my SON!
Atleast, that's how I always treated him. That's how all of my "pets" are.

No I didn't over feed him. They each have a meal plan. They each get water changes on a basis. And lots of love!
Julian, started acting weird a few days ago actually. He would sit upright on his rear in the tank or his mouth would be poking out at the surface. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, so I did a 50/50 water change put in some meds in case he had some "ickys" in his tummy and lowered his water so he was able to go to the surface to get air when needed.
It was during that particular water change that I noticed a little piece of his anal tail laying separate from his body.
So I removed his rocks. No way in heck am I going to have my baby have a ripped tail.
So the rock's went and got cleaned and put away till baby was better.
It was also abit cold in my apartment building because maintenance hadn't turned the heat on, so I had the lamp on him.
So towards the end, he was medicated, comfortable, and kept warm and nibbled on food. I was at wit's end trying to figure out what the f*ck was wrong with him and posted on some of the fish forums "we" (my fishies and I) belong to. No response.
Then I started some heavy duty researching.. I looked over at him and ironically I was reading something about Fish Euthanasia (don't get me started on that one.. f*cking BARBARIANS!!!!) and he was zipping all over his tank, jumping in the air and all that, I thought he was feeling better, then he didn't move at all, and I'm like sitting here going.. um Julian? Move! I moved the tank, and nothing. I f*cking witnessed him gasping for air, for life. And to witness that out of a living thing, is just.. horrible.
I couldn't do anything more.. because I did everything remotely possible already.

Sure, I've had Betta's die before, but this one.. just took me by surprise, I had that hope he was going to get better.
But now he's gone..

Thank you everybody for your kind words and thoughts, to all.

Sometimes regardless of what we do, they still pass on. To everything there is a season. He had a good "mommy" and obviously, a good life!

Thank you, Bag  He was 3 and a half, most betta's dont even get to see that.
Not to mention, nobody knows how old betta's actually are when you "adopt them"
But if I had to guess, he was already 1, so 4 years.
